There’s less than a week until issue 3 of the @yoilitmag drops… So here’s a little sneak peek of my illustrated piece.

Little Matchstick Vitya (preview)
“Why would little Vitya be out in the cold if he had no ushanka?” you ask. “He’ll catch a cold if he doesn’t freeze to death!”
You would be right, of course. This is what little Vitya tried to explain to his aunt and uncle, too, before they pushed him out onto the front step that night.
“It’s New Year’s Eve!” they said. “You must take advantage of the holiday, there are so many people out! Take these matchbooks; they have the company’s ad printed on the back. Give them out to the professionals you see, and get their business cards in return. You can come home when you’re all done.”
So he went, taking the matchbooks with him into the dark, wintry night. But he didn’t go alone, at least. While Vitya had no love for matchbooks, advertisements, or for herring, he did have lots of love for his most loyal companion, Makkachin. The little poodle stayed close on the bus ride to the heart of the city, and closer still when they reached downtown. The parties were all in full swing, and they would easily get stepped on or separated if they weren’t careful.
“Excuse me, would you like a free matchbook? No? But it has really nice printing on it! Wait, where are you going?”
The boy and his dog were kicked out of parties and restaurants,theaters and hotels. They were pushed away in the crowds, and ignored on the ice rinks. A few people took matchbooks out of pity, but most of those ended up in the trash right before his eyes.
It wasn’t as though he hadn’t thought about throwing all of them away, himself. He’d wanted to throw the whole sack in the garbage the moment they’d been given to him! But… they were his family, and somehow, they always knew how to catch him in a lie. Coming back with no business cards or contacts wouldn’t help his case at all.
Besides, the punishment should they find out…
He shuddered to think of it. No; it would be better to stay out all night if he had to.

This Little Piggy
Now living in Russia, Viktor and Yuuri have settled into a comfortable routine together, despite having to keep their relationship a secret from the majority of the world. People will believe what they want to believe, though, and it’s safer to let them. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t tough… especially in moments when Yuuri is hurting. Or showing his eros. Or keeping secrets. But they make it work. They always make it work. That’s life. That’s love. And they’re in it for the long haul.
There’s a mini NLA chapter in the @yoimoviezine– it’s cute and takes place at the 4CCs just a couple of months after the series ends. @mamodewberry and I wrote it together + I did some illustrations to go with it. Orders close on the 23rd, so act now- it all goes to charity!
I’d forgotten that we got the tumblr account before we even posted the first chapter… that’s so exciting. :’) I can’t believe it. This has been an incredible couple of years.
An update on the next chapter, btw: in order to make sure that the payoff happens the way it needs to, we’re plotting the next 5-6 chapters all at once. We had a loose outline two years ago, which we’ve been gradually massaging as we’ve progressed through the fic, but now we are nailing down the hard outlines and it is a harrowing process. Barcelona is the climax and so, so important, and we want to make sure we do it right.
We spent over eight hours on Saturday combing through episodes 10-12 and finally finished hammering all of the canon material from the series last night, with all of the present-day gaps filled. The fairytale segments are planned, I just need to decide where they fit in the outline, but that will depend on where we end up putting the chapter breaks… and THAT depends on the final number of flashbacks that we decide on, which we are working on now.
Once all of this is decided and figured out, we will start writing. Since the scenes are all planned (often with dialog, even) and we’ve discussed them at length, it should go fairly quick. That will take us to the end of the Grand Prix Final and back to Japan.
But that won’t be the end of NLA.
When Barcelona is over, we will have three more chapters to make up for the pain that we’re going to cause. I’m not going to give any spoilers, but I CAN say that they will be soft, fluffy, and very, very sweet. They should soothe the aches and any remaining heartburn.
After that, it’ll be one shots, zine pieces, AUs, etc. We have a lot of stories to tell— for Viktor, Yuuri, and everyone else. 🙂

Viktor is 15 and the gold medalist of the Jr. Grand Prix Final. Yuuri is 19 and a gold medalist for pairs ice dancing in multiple events. They met at a New Years Eve benefit where it was decided that the Katasuki Nutrition Corporation would sponsor Viktor in his up and coming career. Three months later, the Katsukis have invited Coach Feltsman and Viktor to one of their family’s hot spring resorts in Hasetsu to finish signing the contracts… which Viktor hopes will be his chance to find out if there’s anything more than business between he and the cute Yuuri Katsuki.
The time has come, my sweet little ghouls. We’re ready to announce our bundles and pricing, as well as the hour at witch we’ll be launching the store.
We’ll begin selling pdfs, books, bundles, and tees at 10 PM EST tonight – that’s about five hours from now! Orders will remain open until November 23rd. While pdfs are included in the preorder, they will not be sent out until 50% of physical orders have been shipped.
