Also can we talk about his owner for a little bit?  Notice how he initially gave off the “punk kid who abuses animals” vibe, kind of like Mitch from PPG, for a split second?  I appreciate how the writers purposely avoided that cliche since it would just continue the media trend that paints those with alternative styles as unfit to care for pets, although that is very much not the case. 

Even if it was just a brief back story moment, this has to be one of my favorite scenes from the show to date.  I hope that the positive imagery of stylistic choices typically associated with “bad” characters- like in ROTG, with North’s tattoos- creates a more welcome perception for characters judged not by their style, but by their actions.

Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I am happy to report that this show is way more badass than I thought it was going to be and I am completely hooked. 

For those of you who are still skeptical, allow me to offer some awesome points about it:

  • It has taken pieces from the original graphic novels, original cartoon, and the old movies and created a beautifully blended canon all its own which, so far, I approve of.
  • Each turtle has a very distinct personality that rings true for each of them, and it seems intent on developing this.
  • They act like the 15 year-olds that they’re supposed to. VERY REFRESHING.
  • The backgrounds/flashbacks/etc etc are in an art style VERY similar to the old graphic novels. They continually give me shivers of happy.
  • VOICE ACTING OMG YOU GUYS. Rob Paulsen makes a perfect Donatello. They’re all really good. I am.. so pleased. 
  • It’s funny. And surprising. And smart. And adorable. 
  • alksdfjaldjfal’fadlsfjsadljfalsdlandfsa f I could go on and on and on
  • they have uber cute feet

If the animation style and the anime emote things seem annoying, just give it an episode. You get used to it pretty fast, especially if you think of them as… Little Big Planet sack turtles. OMG CUTE.
