Summary:

It’s Christmas Day–Victor’s birthday–and he’s completely, utterly alone. He stays at the practice rink long after his rinkmates, and when he’s finally too exhausted to do one more jump or spin, he doesn’t want to go home just yet, so he takes a different path home than normal, He comes across an outdoor skating rink, where he happens to see a beautiful man skating his Stammi Vicino routine. Enthralled, Victor decides he has to meet him, but decides to hide his face because…well. He’s Victor.

Notes: This is an alternate meeting fic, occurring on Christmas day a few weeks after the GPF in Sochi. In this AU, after Yuuri bombed at the GPF, he refused to go to the banquet, so Yuuri and Victor never met or danced with each other that night, and Yuuri never asked Victor to be his coach. Yuuri still placed very badly at Japanese nationals, and therefore didn’t qualify for worlds.Tl;dr: Victor’s a huge dork and pines away for Yuuri, there’s mistaken identities, ballet…all the good stuff.

Introducing Issue 3 Artist, gabapple!

I went to university first to do animation, but then switched to illustration and was working on a double major (illustration/english), which I have yet to finish lol. But I did a weekly web comic for 2 years, which helped with my skills, and have always mostly drawn animals… which is why I draw so much Makkachin.

If you need a pick-me-up after a rough day, look no further than @gabapple’s art. Her adorable drawings of teenage Victor will bring a smile to your face, and her pastel color palettes mesh perfectly with her fun, sweet-as-cotton-candy style. Her love for art is clear in every piece she puts out, and we cannot wait to see what she has in store for Issue 3!

Blog Post Suggestions

I need to write some articles for my new blog- topics relating to writing, art, books, movies, design, identity, etc. Pretty broad. Anyone have something they’d like to see me cover? I’m not published, but I ran writing group for 10+ years so that’s something. 

I’m also planning to write some posts comparing different forms of media– adaptations/versions/etc. They’ll be short posts, but it should be fun, so feel free to recommend things you’d like to see in that vein, too! Is the book really better than the movie?

As we approach the release of Shall We Read: Issue 3, we have some announcements to make!

In Regards to Tiers:

Given this is our last issue, the tiers which provided access to our Discord server and exclusive previews of the upcoming issues will no longer exist. However, we do have a surprise extra, to celebrate our four issues of Shall We Read!

  • Baseline: for 1 USD, you’ll gain access to our SFW edition of Issue 03, which contains 12 writing pieces and 5 art pieces.

  • Postcard: for 6 USD, you’ll gain access to not only our SFW edition of Issue 03, but also an exclusive postcard designed by the incredible @paluumin! 

  • Appendicks: for 10 USD, you’ll gain access to both our SFW and NSFW editions; the NSFW appendix includes 4 additional writing pieces, and 3 additional art pieces.

  • Bang for your Buck: for 15 USD, you’ll gain access to both our SFW and NSFW editions, as well as our exclusive postcard.

Both postcard tiers will be limited, with only 200 postcards on sale. Once those are sold out, we’ll only offer the Baseline and Appendicks tiers. First come, first serve! This is Salmon Coal, my book son. Please love him. He is my life… and also the protagonist of the middle grade novel that I have been neglecting lately, but must get back to very soon. 

I got a travel watercolor sketchbook for Christmas and broke it in with a very cold Vitya, ‘cause it was 18f/-7.7c when I got off work today. Brrr.
