This is why I sometimes think Conan and Shinichi are two different people XD
While I can completely agree that they somewhat have different personalities, you have to sit back and think about why that is.
When Shinichi was himself, he was arrogant, conceited, and felt that nothing could touch him. When he was turned into Conan, he got a really loud wake up call, and his personality has definitely had a shift towards the calmer and more thoughtful, especially about feelings of others, limitations on his abilities, and overall situations he might find himself in. I would be surprised if he didn’t have at least a touch of PTSD and depression. (I think it would be worse if he didn’t have Heiji, who is someone in his age range, is also male, and he can actually talk to, and respects him as himself. Haibara helps, but he’s 17 and gender roles and all that.)
It’s
amusinglya before and after. All these things are totally true! Especially depression and ptsd and the changing role he’s forced into and his attempts to deal with it.
But I also see the Conan/Shin’ichi that’s being made from shepherding around the Tantei-dan, and the little glimpses of kindness we get of Shin’ichi on case flashbacks or even the anime’s first ep tantei-dan cameo, and I think ‘Damn he’d be a great big brother.’
And I also think about how Conan, as an actual person who touches lives, will be sorely missed.
….so my authorial ‘let’s fix it by having both!’ fiat smacks in and goes LET US HAVE CONAN SPONTANEOUSLY BECOME A LITTLE BROTHER. OR USE HIM IN AUs OR SOMETHING. YOUR OFFERING PLEASES KITTY. XD
So agree! I cannot express how much it breaks my heart to think about how it will effect people if they don’t end up knowing he’s Kudo. Even then, it’s really going to mess with the kids…
But also don’t get me wrong, he certainly isn’t a right bastard, or Ran wouldn’t still be friends with him/madly in love with him. He just had an attitude problem and a lot of that has been kicked in the face. XD
I agree with all of this.
Oh god, I just had a horrible thought on this. It’s like a visual representation of his carefree youth haunting and teasing him, since things will never be the same in his life or trust in things… only now he’s enduring all this stuck in the body of a 7 year old.
(( don’t tell anyone, but this is why Shinichi is my favorite.. I definitely see them as the same person/character, and having to deal with all that he has, with these limitations.. everything thrown in his face… such good psycho analysis material… and character development and.. ahgfdjksfdlskafa I lovelovelove it… so much pain~ ))
