a survey thing!

Tagging: whoever would like to participate, because… it’s Christmas and I don’t wanna tag people lol

1) Are you named after anyone? Nope. Fun fact, though; I was almost named Jennifer??? But then my mom changed her mind.

2) When was the last time you cried? LAST NIGHT. I was so overly emotional watching Into the Spider-Verse the second time through. I cried through most of it lol gosh it was so good. Everything mattered so much. weh weh best movie

3) Do you have any kids? No… but I do have cats.

4) Do you use sarcasm a lot? All the time.

5) What’s the first thing you notice about people? In person, it’s their eyes. Or rather, if they look at me straight on/how long they hold eye contact/what their brows do/etc… It’s a lot about how a person engages with me and the room. You can tell a lot about what a person’s MO by that, and how to best communicate with them. It’s sort of similar online, too… but by word choice- passive/active communication, etc. Trying to get a feel for what their style is.

6) Eye color? Blue.

7) Scary movie or happy ending? I like a satisfying/hopeful ending for all of my endings, even the scary ones. And I do love scary movies.

8) Any special talent? Idk I draw and I write but a lot of people do. I’m really patient, though. Extremely patient. Moreso than a regular person.

9) Where were you born? Provo, Utah.

10) Hobbies? Writing, drawing, reading, collecting things, RESEARCHING, web development, cooking, singing… I’m slowly learning how to play the ukulele, but I need to be more dedicated.

11) Do you have any pets? Two cats!

12) What sports do you/ have you played? I really liked tennis, and I was good at shooting hoops in basketball, but I’m a terrible runner. I’m very slow, which makes me bad at basically all sport.

13) How tall are you? 5′6″ – very average.

14) Favorite subject in school? English. I always loved English. I took so many art classes but it felt like I was constantly butting heads with my teachers, while English… was just a natural fit.

15) Dream job? A regular 9-5 like the one I currently have with lots of PTO so I could do book tours and school visits for a part-time published author/illustrator gig. I really like having health insurance, routine, and an office full of people to see. It’s good for me. Stability is essential for me to do anything creative.

Introducing Issue 3 Writer, gabapple!

Taking time out from my novels to work on Never Look Away (NLA), which is a series novelization of YOI and the thing I’m best known for in the fandom, has been a fantastic learning opportunity and a real godsend. I love being able to connect directly with my audience, getting my words into their hands and living in the world of Yuri!!! on Ice together.

Reading a piece by Gab is like sitting by the fire on a cozy night; both bring comfort, warmth, and joy. Gab’s prose will draw you in like a moth to the flame, and will keep you there for hours and hours, until you’re captured in the creative and beautiful worlds she creates. It doesn’t matter if she’s writing about canon in Never Look Away, or taking us on a journey to Victuuri’s domestic post-canon bliss in Cupcakes; you won’t be able to look away (no pun intended!) from the page until you’ve gobbled up every last line. We are thrilled to have her combine her artistic and literary talents for her Issue 3 piece.

There’s a mini NLA chapter in the @yoimoviezine– it’s cute and takes place at the 4CCs just a couple of months after the series ends. @mamodewberry and I wrote it together + I did some illustrations to go with it. Orders close on the 23rd, so act now- it all goes to charity!

I love this new surgence of holiday birds, I first saw them at target, and just recently at micheals. They’re so wholesome and sweet I have one one my desk and little ones one my tree :)

Aren’t they so great?! I love the Target birds, especially. I have four so far… I’ll probably get another one in the next year or so. Here’s who I have:

This is Vitya, who I keep at work. He’s who I painted that one time (only I turned him blue), and he is beautiful.

These are John and Holmes. I know, no surprise.

This gentleman is Meguire. I love him.

I’d like to find an Eddie (Valiant).

Anyway, they’re amazing. 😊

Hello friends!

In NLA, we write Viktor’s name with a ‘k’ as a matter of stylistic choice, but we don’t have an actual preference between Viktor/Victor. Some do, though, so I recommend a browser extension like Word Replacer II, which replaces a given word or phrase with one of your choice, as seen in the screenshots above.

This extension can be downloaded for Chrome here:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/word-replacer-ii/djakfbefalbkkdgnhkkdiihelkjdpbfh?hl=en

It’s easy to install and add replacement words. Hit ‘enable’ on the right panel, close out, and refresh, and you’re good to go!

I’m sure that there are plenty of other browser extensions available, too… this isn’t a new concept by any means, so look around for others if this doesn’t suit your needs/browser. 🙂

Hope it helps– happy reading!

This tumblr account turned 2 today!

I’d forgotten that we got the tumblr account before we even posted the first chapter… that’s so exciting. :’) I can’t believe it. This has been an incredible couple of years.

An update on the next chapter, btw: in order to make sure that the payoff happens the way it needs to, we’re plotting the next 5-6 chapters all at once. We had a loose outline two years ago, which we’ve been gradually massaging as we’ve progressed through the fic, but now we are nailing down the hard outlines and it is a harrowing process. Barcelona is the climax and so, so important, and we want to make sure we do it right.

We spent over eight hours on Saturday combing through episodes 10-12 and finally finished hammering all of the canon material from the series last night, with all of the present-day gaps filled. The fairytale segments are planned, I just need to decide where they fit in the outline, but that will depend on where we end up putting the chapter breaks… and THAT depends on the final number of flashbacks that we decide on, which we are working on now.

Once all of this is decided and figured out, we will start writing. Since the scenes are all planned (often with dialog, even) and we’ve discussed them at length, it should go fairly quick. That will take us to the end of the Grand Prix Final and back to Japan.

But that won’t be the end of NLA.

When Barcelona is over, we will have three more chapters to make up for the pain that we’re going to cause. I’m not going to give any spoilers, but I CAN say that they will be soft, fluffy, and very, very sweet. They should soothe the aches and any remaining heartburn.

After that, it’ll be one shots, zine pieces, AUs, etc. We have a lot of stories to tell— for Viktor, Yuuri, and everyone else. 🙂

On behalf of Mamo and I, thank you for your continued support and encouragement! We couldn’t do this without you all.

Love,

@gabapple & @mamodewberry
