I really hate when a POC tries to talk about the lack of diversity in books, specifically YA, and someone is like “NO! Here’s a list of 10 black protags! And 5 Native! And 2 Latino! So much diversity if you look!”

No. Don’t give me crumbs and expect me to be happy. Don’t give me the same rehashed story of the Black kid overcoming the projects or the Native kid escaping the rez and their alcoholic parents or the Latino kid getting out of the barrio. That’s not what I want and that’s not what we deserve.

I want books with Native kids defeating aliens. I want books with Black kids overthrowing the government. Give me a book where the protag is a Latino asexual girl who has a wild adventure with her two new unlikely friends.

But don’t give me fucking crumbs and expect me to be satisfied. Everyone wants to eat a full meal at the goddamn table, you feel?

please PLEASE PLEASE

I hate YA books because all I see are boring white cis male and females falling in love over and over AGAIN

Yes, more diversity. Let’s do it!

When someone identifies with their favorite character it can say a lot about them. Whenever someone says “they are so me” believe them. Sometimes liking a favorite character they identify with is the closest thing to catch a glimpse of who they really are. Never tell anyone that they are talking about a fictional character too much, because deep down it could be the only thing thats been helping them battle their deepest insecurities. Even fictional characters can make a difference, regardless wither or not they are real.

Who here has something they really need to get done but would really rather eat french fries than doing it… but end up doing nothing because there are no french fries?

Being overly-familiar with a series is such a weird burden sometimes because like

you’ll see some theory being passed around that you instantly know is wrong. Like it’s surprising to see people supporting it because the flaws in its logic are so glaringly obvious. Until it hits you that, yeah it’s wrong, but only because you were able to immediately remember the 5 second conversation between two background characters 17 minutes through s2e13 that definitively disproves it. And no casual fan would have any reason to remember that off the top of their head and it’s you who’s the weird human encyclopedia with a shot-for-shot memory the entire damn series.

Like at that point you don’t even know anymore whether to argue your point or just…maybe go outside for a little bit.
