Hi! My question is how do you get into the online entertainment field? It doesn’t have to be directly producing content I just want to be involved in the process of it all.
You need to be passionate; but above all else, you need to be a team player. Always support your peers and learn from any critiques they give you. Be a genuine friend – don’t suck up to someone because you think their friendship with give you status.
Always be aware of public relations and public perception.
If you want to be involved in the management side, reach out to others and show them what you can offer. You really need to care about the people you’re managing and you need to take it seriously. These people are putting their art in your hands. You also have to be likable and put the contributors at ease that they made the right decision in allowing you to manage their work.
If you want to be a content creator, come up with a concept that you can devoted to as well as proud. Develop your content not with the intention of instantly hosting it on any site; but use it to build your own portfolio. Ask for feedback and listen. Once you feel like you’ve built a body of work that you’re comfortable with, begin to submit it around. Don’t be discouraged if you’re rejected or given a list of things that need to be tweaked. Take the critique, continue to work, then reapply when you feel ready. You need to have a thick skin and not take things personally. You also can’t give up due to a failure. Everything worth doing takes work and persistence.

I just kinda wish it brought some sort of revenue in? From all the JP anthologies I’ve seen, the most participants are compensated with are a free copy of the book and *sometimes* special swag, like keychains or tote bags. (which are still cool, don’t get me wrong)
Yeah, true, true… I know with the custom poker card decks, people are given one or a couple of free decks to sell… and access to buying them at a lower rate to sell on their own, which I guess is something?
I would honestly love to do a collab book or something T_T;;; I will think on it yes… some kind of portfolio with a common theme… so cooool…

I was going to say some sort of mass collaborated art book but then I remembered those don’t make a profit. Unless you do like what. A collab book between two/three people 😐
That would be totally awesome to do, though… and would at least be good PR, right? Get some advertising, strength in numbers, AND FUN/PRACTICE!
I need to find a way to monetize my art in a way that isn’t commissions, although those certainly help.
What to do… I have literally no capital to invest.

Yes and no! gabapple is where I post all of the art and I still use it, but I follow way too many people to keep up with… gabapplewrites is more for non-art updates and reblogs of writing stuff, with a much much smaller follow list…

5 facts about me:
- I’m allergic to cucumbers. A lot. Even the scent makes my skin itch. Can’t touch it without it feeling like a burn. No shampoos or lotions or anything with cucumber in it allowed! Pickles, on the other hand… No problem whatsoever. Vinegar wins again!
- It is really hard for me to pick a ‘favorite’ of anything because I like too many things and context changes everything. Which is really annoying.
- I love singing, and I’ve been in lots of choirs and vocal groups, but still have trouble reading sheet music. Probably doesn’t help that I can’t play an instrument to save my life. It just all turns into math and then I get so confused.
- Disneyland is my #1 most favorite place in the world… and I haven’t been in 7 years. Sob. (first world problems, I know)
- I’ve only ever kissed one person… and that would be my husband, whom I met online in 1999 on a pokemon roleplaying group, and married in 2006. No regrets.
