“It seems to me that it would be prudent to reserve judgment for the moment; trailers are intended to incite hype and interest, not to reveal the film\u2019s story. As we\u2019ve seen in many trailers in the past, particularly for the Detective Conan franchise, they tend to be, ah\u2026 very\u00a0misleading<\/em> in terms of the actual events. Premise, perhaps\u2014 it seems that Kaitou KID is going after a painting, which is something that I can certainly see him doing \u2014 but as for who or what is behind the explosions, I really cannot say.<\/p>\n

"Although the \u2018rule\u2019 of "No One Gets Hurt” has been proven to be nothing more than\u00a0fanon<\/em>, the spirit of said rule does seem to fit the thief\u2019s profile. As he\u2019s matured, it does appear that he\u2019s moved away from the more crude techniques (using a wrench to knock someone out in the past vs sleeping gas) and onto the more sophisticated (cleverer tricks that don\u2019t necessitate anyone being unconscious). Still, in the end, he does what must be done to get the job done.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, in KID\u2019s case, this sometimes comes with dangerous, even deadly, situations\u2026 As we saw with the\u00a0Nightmare<\/em> case, KID was blackmailed into breaking his own\u00a0modus operandi<\/em>, and while he pulled through in the end, someone still lost their life. Not that it was KID\u2019s fault, mind\u2026 that sort of thing rarely is. It just comes with the territory of being an internationally wanted criminal with various assassins on your heels.<\/p>\n

"Regardless, at his core, Kaitou KID is a good person. For a thief, I mean.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“My guess is that the trailer has completely misled us with footage that has been cut in a way to\u00a0suggest<\/em> that Kaitou KID has completely lost his mind and is out to destroy everything\u2026 but is really not the culprit at all. It\u2019s entirely possible that he is just as much a victim as everyone else in the scenes.\u00a0I have to assume that someone else is causing the explosions, that KID is likewise trapped or coming to save them.\u00a0<\/span>OR, that those scenes don\u2019t even exist in the first place? Many times these things are more <\/span>symbolic<\/em> than concrete in terms of their existence.<\/span><\/p>\n

"If we remember movie number 13,\u00a0The Raven Chaser,<\/em> the trailer made a promise of Conan vs Gin. And while we did get a confrontation of sorts, it was not at all what they hinted at.<\/p>\n

"The same happened in the most recent Conan vs Lupin III film, with hints of Kaitou KID, though, again, what we received was not what was "promised,” but since the promise was only\u00a0perceived,<\/em>\u00a0there was nothing truly lost. Many fans were simply disappointed for having been tricked. Again.<\/p>\n

“Frankly speaking, the idea that Kaitou KID becomes truly villainous character in this next film is far too interesting for it to be plausible.<\/strong> Detective Conan movies consistently underdeliver, and there\u2019s a large chance that he\u2019ll only be in and our of the movie as he has been in all others\u2026 in the background, the shadows, showing up for cameos, saving the day as he is prone to do despite not being the hero of the series. Especially considering that he is Gosho’s favorite character (and often thought of as self-insert), I doubt that he would be allowed to cross any unforgivable lines.<\/p>\n

"There\u2019s always the chance that we\u2019ll be pleasantly surprised in the end, but I am not holding my breath. As with all teasers, you must expect that you are being intentionally misled by the editors, and that there\u2019s no guarantee that material shown in a teaser will even be in the final film.<\/p>\n

"It\u2019s being effective in its design in that \u00a0it is getting the fans to\u00a0feel<\/em> things and\u00a0discuss<\/em> them with others\u2014 this is one of the best ways to drive audience members to the theaters, bring up numbers, and set up the franchise for support in future years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"In the end, it is what it is: a commercial used to sell, and nothing more.<\/strong>\u00a0In short, we’ll have to wait and see. We have nearly a year to wait, so don’t fret too much in the meantime or you may burn out.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
