the worst thing about writing is that you aren’t just a writer. you have to be a thousand things. a poet, a flirt, a weapons expert, a bleeding heart, a scholar, a legendary cook, a theorist, an engineer, a reckless teenage girl, a dying god. you have to be able to write monologues and speeches and heartfelt confessions, and you have to make them believable. writing is putting yourself into someone else’s shoes.

writing is really hard (◕︿◕✿)

Re: Sweetieba #2

i dont interpret hakuba as being a huge sweetie? more like… very charming. he can be very nice and he can also very adversarial and even manipulative. he thinks a lot of himself and he wants others to think a lot of him too.

This is a perfectly valid interpretation, and one of the reasons why I like him as a character so much. I think he makes a fantastic antagonist and foil (more on this later) for this reason. I think he’s both, honestly. Certainly not without flaw, and there are good reasons why people like Heiji don’t like him. I try to play him from the mindset of “sympathetic villain.” I think his heart is in the right place, but he’s… often a bit too persnickety to be truly effective. 😀

And these Sweetieba posts are written to be persuasive and, yes, intentionally manipulative. I write from this angle as a stylistic choice (since this is a Hakuba blog it only seems fair that I would let his brand of influence set the pace) – and because it’s genuinely fun to challenge people to consider alternative perspectives on things, such as characters that may have been previously dismissed as just a jerk, etc.

So yes, a bit over-the-top, but that’s on purpose. 🙂

…I do think that he’s sweet. But also a jerk. Both. A walking contradiction with vast potential for character development. A writer’s dream in a lot of ways because he’s so complex and SO different from the other Gosho boys. <3 <3 <3

((PS I was supposed to reply to you regarding Spider’s inclusion in the anime like, forever ago? But am still figuring out how I feel about it. I haven’t forgotten, though!))

Well , Good luck , Hakuba-mun ! 😀 And we hope than you’ll come back quickly and with a nice health ( and remember … KAITO HAREM ! x’3 ) and just , what kind of group would it be ?

Hakuba would never give up on his harem! The Kaitous need their most favorite obnoxious mother hen detective! Right? … Right??? I hope so. Aha.

As for the group, it would just be a… an organization of NaNoWriMo writers that we add as friends together and I can sort of cheerlead along… checking up on progress, that sort of thing. I do it with my WG every year, but since I’m letting Hakuba write my NaNo this year (oh god), I thought it’d be fun to include you guys, too.

[sms] I’m just bullying you, don’t worry— Ah, that’d be a great project, if you could manage it! It’s certainly a more reasonable word count than some other writing events I’ve seen. Only if you’re certain you have that time, I’d wholly encourage the idea.

[sms] nowyouhavetosharethoughbecauseIwant

[sms] Gimme gimme. Whatever little plotty bits you’ve conjured up, I wan’em.

[Text] Well… it involves a detective.

[Text] A female detective.

[Text] And a serial killer. It takes place in America. Do you think that’s too ambitious? I’ve only been there a handful of times. I may have to get your help on some of the finer details.

[sms] Not that editorials are supposed to be knocked, of course? Hh-hmm. I’m glad that you’re at least enjoying it in some respect.

[sms] AND IF ANYTHING THAT JUST MAKES ME INCREDIBLY EXCITED

[sms] You’d better not be joking because I’m going to hold you to this most absolutely! Have you seriously been considering it! Oh Hakuba that’d be wonderful!

[Text] Of course not. Editorials are wonderful and should be respected and enjoyed by all. But – yes. I looked through that NaNoWriMo website and think, if my caseload isn’t too heavy, that I might like to participate. A novel in one month. The word count seems manageable…?

[Text] I’ll confess that I may have ideas for it already. I /may/ have started an outline. Perhaps.

((Apparently, her reply kept getting eaten or sent private, so here it is, screencapped and glowing for posterity and your enjoyment.))

[Text] I suppose we’ll see. I’m so used to writing editorials and reports, so I’m still not entirely sure what to do with fiction. But it has been… interesting thus far. You may change your mind when you hear that I’ve been considering writing…

[Text] …a novel.
