Flirt: Hey Kuroba-kun, how are your grades fairing with your nightly excursions~? You know, if you need a tutor I’d be more than happy to lend a hand. Especially if you need a better grasp on your English. I may only be a half-brit, but I’m an /excellent/ teacher… What do you say to some /very/ private, after school study sessions?

“Oh, I might just have to take you up on that offer~ My English’s been suffering quite a bit, but I’m having a lot of trouble with my French too. I think some oral exercises might be in order. Care to help me out~?”

“I’d be more than happy to, Kuroba-kun. I understand that getting your tongue to curve in just the right way to roll those rs is a little tough for beginners, but not to fret… I’m a professional, and I’m very hands-on with my instruction. That said, I suppose the next question is: your place or mine~?”

themoonlightthief:

The little thief watched with eager eyes as Hakuba went to retrieve the box, legs kicking excitedly and impatiently, arms instantly reaching for the truffles the moment the blonde was close enough.

“I’ll take the chocolate, caramel and peanut butter ones,” he decided, grinning happily, brightly, innocently. “You can have the chocolate raspberry. If you want. Or I could take that one too. I don’t really mind either way, just saying~”

“You can have the whole box if you like; I can always get more.” He let him have the box, smile broad and pleased at Kaito’s reactions. “Just don’t eat too much all at once. I’ll get the hot cocoa… the water should be about boiling now.  How long do you think you’ll be staying? I can get something arranged for dinner, perhaps?”

The water was, indeed, ready, and he got out two mugs – one for chocolate powder, one for tea, and set them up, stirring the former, setting the latter to steep. Then he looked back to Kaito, tilting his head to one side as he regarded him.

“…God, you’re just so cute. What am I to do with you?” He walked the cocoa to him and offered it, handled first. “Careful, it’s hot."

themoonlightthief:

No, no, he probably wouldn’t be able to explain it in a way Hakuba would find satisfying enough. He highly doubted the detective would believe that he’d been hit by real magic, of all things, so, he kept his mouth shut, only offering the blonde a rather sheepish grin and a shrug.

At the mention of chocolate cake, however, the shrunken thief’s expression instantly brightened and he shifted, excitedly turning his head in the direction of the kitchen, both hands once more settling in Hakuba’s shirt to steady himself.

“Yes, please, tea sounds great. Chocolate cake sounds even better though~! You don’t happen to have any hot cocoa too? Or milk chocolate?"

"I could make some hot chocolate, yes! And there ought to be some kind of chocolate confections in the kitchen…”  Hakuba grinned, though it all felt a little bit awkward, carrying the pint-sized Kaito with him into the spacious, expensive kitchen. Then he set the boy onto the counter and stepped away to get the hot water going.

“Do you like truffles? I know that Baaya keeps us well stocked on those.” Water going, he went to the cupboard for the box. “Chocolate, chocolate raspberry, caramel, peanut butter..”  He walked it back over to him.

“…Ah. Ahaha.” A slightly awkward grin curled at the now /child/ thief and he laughed lightly, releasing one hand to give the detective a small wave. “Hello, Hakuba.”

“So it really is you. And you’re… quite small, now.” Yes, Hakuba, that… that would be the obvious. He blinked again, tilting his head to one side, regarding the pint-sized version of his love interest, and frowned.

“I would ask how this happened but I have the distinct impression that you won’t be able to give me a satisfyingly thorough answer, so I will just… put that aside for now. Ah, instead, would you… care for some tea? I think we have chocolate cake on in the kitchen, as well.”

He headed that way, regardless, carrying Kaitou in his arms, and shifted his weight to balance him a little better on his hip.

…Almost as if he’s done this before.

There’s a yelp and suddenly, a tiny white figure comes flying – falling? – towards the blonde, not having enough time to react or release its small glider, before it smacks him dab in the chest, tiny fingers grasping tightly onto Hakuba’s shirt to keep itself there.

“Ah!” Hakuba instinctively reached his hands up to catch the small figure, supporting his weight with both arms. “Uh, hello there. What in the-"

Blink. Blink.

"Ah… … … … You… Wha… … Huh?”

“…What’s going on with you? You’re acting even weirder than usual.” His gaze flickered to the hallway Hakuba kept turning towards, kept staring at, and he frowned, shifting to look at the detective once more. “You’ve been having nightmares about that hallway or something?”

That wasn’t quite enough to explain why he acted the way he did at the moment though.

Eyes flickering towards the dark hallway for the briefest of moments more, before he turned them both in the direction of the kitchen. Again. It was a good thing he’d been there often enough to easily find his way around.

“C’mon. Hot cocoa for me and tea for you, then a shower and then bed. Pretty sure we both need it right now. You a little more than I at the moment though.”

A light, playful grin curled at his lips and he winked, an attempt to lighten the mood and bring the blonde out of…whatever trance he’d fallen into. “And I’m pretty sure I’ll do a better job than that dove. Just saying.”

Whatever defenses Hakuba had been building up in his head regarding his behavior sort of… left him as Kaito continued to speak. He blinked once at the the words – something about ‘tea,’ ‘we both,’ ‘bed,’ and a need for a ‘shower’ for some inexplicable reason- and completely forgot all about the phantoms in the hallway. At least briefly. A hesitant, hopeful grin slipped into place, easing the old anxiety and exchanging it for a different, more pleasant one.

"Ah, uhm, well, if you… If you… like, then, ah, yes… aha, yes, that sounds lovely, and I think you would certainly do a better job. Aha."

Pale English complexion adopting a rosy tint, the detective happily let himself be lead toward the kitchen. Ah yes, the tea. That was the first step!

"Perhaps you’ll even keep the ghosts away? That would be a wonderful change of pace, I think. Thank God for Kuroba Kaito!"

“…You alright?”

He arched a brow, more than a little puzzled about the detective’s behavior and unexpected rambling. Perhaps he always did talk a lot, but that didn’t explain the way he suddenly stopped and stared down the hallway, like…something was there?

“You were asking why I was here. Sort of.” Pausing, suddenly feeling a little uneasy himself, he shifted his hold on the bag, expression turning sheepish. “And, speaking of which… Mind if I borrow your shower? Or bath? Either works, really. My bathroom’s—”

‘…possibly filled with dopplegangers trying to get into my pants. Or kill me. I’m not sure which yet.

“—being renovated.”

“Wh-what? Oh… ah, yes, that’s… that’s more than fine…” Hakuba shook his head, pulling out of the sort of daze that he’d fallen under while trying to pay attention to his guest. He couldn’t shake the feeling of hearing… well, something back where he’d come from. That hallway, where his bedroom was.

He licked his lips and reached over to put an arm around Kaito’s shoulders, turning him toward the hallway. No, wait. They were going to the kitchen, weren’t they? He turned them toward the kitchen.

“Yes, of course… walk-in shower or the garden tub, that would be fine. Not a worry at all. Hot chocolate first? And oh, right, you asked me a question. Ah. I’m fine. There’s just…"

Hakuba frowned, looking to the hallway again.

"Something… odd going on.”  No, that sounded stupid. “I mean, I haven’t been sleeping much. Again. Something about… nightmares… Er, I mean, not that the dove hasn’t been doing its job, I just keep staying up too late and, ah… the…”

More frowning. When had he turned toward the hallway again?

“…Hot… cocoa…?"

He heaved a mental sigh of relief when the door finally swung open, and a wide grin settled on his lips as his eyes finally locked on the blonde. “Hot chocolate sounds great, actually. Thanks~ Good to see you too, by the way, Hakuba. Really.”

“So pleased to hear that, thank you! Yes, do come in, let me get this door closed and firmly locked to keep out the cold and we’ll go straight to the kitchen."

The detective, who was perhaps a little more antsy than usual, stepped to the door to do just that.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of your company this evening, anyway? If you don’t mind my asking, of course… not that you have to have a reason, necessarily, to come visit me, but I’m curious as I always am and you know, that sort of thing just-"

Hakuba paused, glancing back behind him toward the darkened hallway, hesitated a moment, then let go of the breath he’d been holding.

”…What was I saying?“

He shifted the bag currently slung over his shoulder and glanced around, swiftly scanning the surrounding area, but upon not seeing anyone else around – or, more importantly, none of his /doppelgangers/ – he grinned, turned towards the door and knocked. Now he just had to play the waiting game. Hopefully only for a little bit though. He could feel himself growing restless already, with every second passing. “C’mon, c’mon, it’s /cold/–“

All of these ghostly sounds and wanderings and now a knock at the door? And were was Baaya? Or the other servants?

He snuck down the hallway and to the front door, biting his lip again with a healthy amount of trepidation. Did he dare answer it? Who would be visiting without an appointment? Still, it was rude to not answer, even if there were some sort of a monster waiting just beyond the arguably unenforced passage.

So he opened it.

“Oh! Kuroba-kun, it’s you. It’s wonderful to see you again, such a pleasant surprise.” Thank God, someone to keep him company and help with the spectral visitors. “Ah, please come in! I can make some tea or hot chocolate or something?”

A Drunken Waltz [Open]

themoonlightthief:

At first, the thief frowned, brows furrowing in confusion and annoyance as this person just moved to block the path to his longed for goal – food, bread, instant ramen, chocolate – but then the other male started to speak.

Kaitou blinked, expression turning blank as he tried to place that voice. And that hair and those eyes. Where had he—

And then realization hit and an utterly blinding grin split his face as he leaped – stumbled – towards the detective, arms winding around his torso in a tight, tight embrace. And to hold himself up. For some unexplicable reason, his legs didn’t quite seem to want to carry him. Hm. He should probably look into that later.

It could wait though.

“Ha~ku~baaaa~” The thief singsonged, focus returning to the blonde detective. “Can y’get me som’ chocolate? I think’ve lost m’wallet~”

image

“Good God, it really is you.” Hakuba frowned, chin tucked against his throat as he looked down at the thief that clung to him. “What in the world have you been doing? And- chocolate? For God’s sake, you’re still in uniform, in public, and you’re asking about chocolate?

The detective sighed. On the one hand, he really liked Kaito, as KID or otherwise. On the other, it was dangerous for him to be out and about like this. And irritating that he was drunk, clinging to him, and acting all around completely undignified.

…then again, he really liked the way the thief had said his name just then.

So Hakuba sighed again. "I’ll get you some chocolate, certainly, but if I do will you come with me? I need to get you off of these streets before someone else finds you. Here, hold my coffee and don’t move from this spot,” he said, attempting to detach the thief and reattach him to the corner of the building. “Sit here, or something… I’ll just nip in and get you something and then we can be on our way. Deal?"
