“‘M kidding, Hakuba.” He chuckled quietly and proceeded to, quite happily, snuggle into the detective’s shoulder, eyes closing with a content sigh. “Not gonna die that easily, y’know. Have a lil’ faith in me, will ya?”
“Yes, yes… now let’s get you to bed and I’ll take your vitals. You musn’t forget that I’m a detective and, as a detective, I see death all the time, so it’s not entirely irrational for me to be concerned…” He sighed, carrying the other boy up the stairs. “Though I admit that, yes, you’re generally quite the sturdy individual…"
“This is what happens when you don’t take care of yourself…” Hakuba mumbled,
bringing a blanket to the thief’s shoulders. “Not that I should talk, I
realize, but let’s get you to bed, shall we?” (( KAITO NO DON’T DIE ))
“I do so take care of m’self,” was Kaito’s muffled response into the counter, head turning to give the blond a tired grin. “But if it makes you pamper me even more, maybe I should do it a lil’ less.”
“That is entirely unhealthy and unproductive.” Hakuba sighed, and reached down to scoop the thief up into his arms, blanket and all. “You know I’m more than willing to pamper you as much as you like, but you’ve got to stay alive for me to do so, hm?”
It had been a long night and the rain had been pouring for hours, yet that apparently hadn’t stopped the thief from making his way to the Hakuba estate as previously planned. This didn’t surprise the detective at all, though he’d immediately taken Kaito’s hand and dragged him from the window to his closet, and told him to put on some dry clothes.
“God, Kaito…” he muttered, trying not to laugh as he waited, leaning against the wall that separated them. “You know that you can use the front door, right? I do understand that you enjoy being deliberately sneaky, but this is just getting silly…”
His thoughts were derailed, though, when the other teen stepped out in a button-up collared shirt that was far too large for his frame, slightly damp boxers, and nothing else.
“…I…” Hakuba blinked, looking him over a few seconds before he his smile went crooked. “I thought you would find one of my secret t-shirts and some sweat pants, but I suppose this is good, too…”
When Kaito felt hands curl around his shoulders, gently but still suddenly enough for him to give a start, it pulled him from whatever sort of sleepy daze he’d put himself in and his eyes snapped open in a hint of alarm to look over his shoulder, a hand instinctively reaching reaching for the cardgun that was usually in his pocket.
In his uniform pocket, that was.
Not his pajamas.
Then again, he didn’t exactly need it, once he realized who it was, and sheepish embarrassment flashed across his face. The familiar smile on his detective’s lips and the gentle squeeze to his shoulders made him drop his head back down onto Hakuba’s desk and the heist plans he’d brought over from his own house.
“You almost gave me a heartattack,” Kaito snorted quietly, teasingly, lips curving upwards. The playful air disappeared almost the moment Hakuba started rubbing his shoulders, though, body relaxing and going lax less than a few seconds after, indigo eyes drifting closed with a soft, pleased noise. “Though…”
God, that felt amazing.
“I…guess I can…deal with…”
And that was the sound of Kaito’s mind powering off completely.
“I was actually already planning that~” Kaito snickered, tilting his head to brush a kiss against Hakuba’s jaw, before stepping away. A hand trailed down the detective’s arm to wrap fingers around his wrist and gently tug the blond with him as Kaito continued moving, backwards, in the direction of Hakuba’s bed.
“I hope you don’t mind too much~”
Hakuba followed after, rolling his eyes again, though the smirk of contentment never left his face. “Fine, fine… if you insist. Can I at least get changed, or must I sleep in my full suit?” Using his free hand, he reached up to start tugging at his tie, at least.
“Getting him riled up is always hilarious, but I have to admit that seeing him so lost was refreshing, to say the least!”
He would’ve personally gone with the dye and glitter and perhaps a few ribbons and some lace, but seeing the result of Hakuba’s little stunt made him wonder if perhaps he should switch it up some during his next heist. Oh, if only he could recreate Nakamori’s reaction—!
"And it’s not that difficult to get the dye out.” He glanced at Hakuba from the corner of his eye, smile stretching wide and turning just a tad too innocent. “But if you’d prefer, I could always go with princess dresses instead. Say, how do you feel about pink, detective~? Then again, white is more your color. Hmm. Decisions, decisions~”
Hakuba came to a full stop to give one of his sternest glances down at the other teenager, stomping a foot to emphasize his meaning.
"Ohhhh no you don’t! You are NOT putting me in any dresses, Kaito! Nakamori-keibu, certainly, but definitely not me. I swear to God, if you try to put me in a dress…!"
“Aww, come on, he’s notbad enough to have deserved that,” said the guy pranking the Inspector on an almost daily basis, only barely holding back a laugh as he thought back on the look on Nakamori’s face. Oh lord, it had been priceless! If only Hakuba had told him about it beforehand. He would’ve brought a camera!
"Although, if you wanna try anything again, I’ve got a pair of glitter- and dye-bombs you could use~”
He laughed, but quickly changed his expression to a disapproving frown. “Now, now… I’m not one to resort to dye or any sort of prank that would cause lasting effects. I know first-hand just how annoying it is to try to get that out of clothing, and I don’t want to get into any legitimate trouble…"
Really, though, did the magician have any idea how difficult it was to restore blond hair to its original color when tampered with? Likely not.
Pursing his lips, Hakuba slipped his hands into his pockets and continued on, just imagining the sort of hellfire that Nakamori would rain down if something like that were to ever happen. God no. "Besides, didn’t you like the chaos and confusion better than just plain anger? It was splendid!"
“Oho~? That’s not a threat, is it, detective?” The look on Kaito’s face was sly and teasing as he leaned against Hakuba, the smirk stretching across his lips wide and toothy and all Kid. “Because you know I’m more than capable of paying you back if you try anything again~”
“Oh come on now…” Hakuba didn’t want to admit that he did feel nervous with that sort of threat hanging over him, even though it was just Kaito making it. He’d seen what the teenage thief was capable of, and he did not want to be on the other side of his ire for any reason. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve wanted to do that to Nakamori-keibu? God, he’s such a controlling, nagging pest… It was about time!"
“Two of a kind indeed. I’d say your little stunt earlier proved that quite well.” Kaito grinned, lightly elbowing the blond in the side. “Never thought I’d see the day you’d pull a prank. You’re actually pretty good at it.”
A gleam that could only be described as purely and utterly mischievous and excited flashed through Kaito’s eyes.
“What do you say we team up next time~?”
"I don’t know that the world is quite ready for that…” Hakuba wanted to put his arm around him, but being in semi-public… he just laughed, giving him a gentle shove right back. “Either way, I hope that this has taught you a valuable lesson: you should never underestimate the quiet ones. Especially not the ones who make their living studying crooks and criminals."
