Oh, no, Hakuba… you can still be sick even with nothing left in your stomach. Sorry buddy.
–
“I’m going to be sick… again… though I’m fairly certain that it would be next to impossible for me to throw up any more."
–
“Really, there can’t be that many places that deliver french food around here… Are they all coming from the same location?”
–
“Ugh, it even looks so greasy… I can’t eat any of this… Baaya!”
–
“…more? But why? How?”
–
“Duck a l’orange? Why would anyone have this delivered here?”
Kaito was beyond frustrated.
He had originally planned to visit Hakuba on his birthday… but clearly, his plans were disrupted. It was already 12 midnight and his birthday just ended. Cursing under his breath, Kaito lifted up his cap and rubbed at the small wound on his forehead hidden by his hair. Just my luck to come across the organization on the day of his birthday… They were pretty quick with the knife too…
Thanks to them, Kaito missed Hakuba’s birthday by just a few minutes and was now disguised as a delivery man, pacing at the door of Hakuba’s home. It wasn’t as though he did not know that Hakuba was a very lonely person… he had seen the loneliness reflected in the depths of his rich brown eyes which mirrored his own. After all, they were similar in some aspects… especially about keeping people at a distance. Knowing all these, what could possibly be more frustrating than missing the chance to celebrate his birthday and bring some cheer in the solemn detective’s life?
Regardless, Kaito now contemplated whether to enter the house… since it was already past midnight. For all he knew, the detective could be already asleep and he certainly did not want to wake him or bother him. On the other hand… Kaito glanced at the birthday cake in his hands. Oh well. Putting on a smirk on his face, he simply pick-locked the door open and walked in silently with the cake in hand… This way, if Hakuba was asleep, he would simply leave the cake and leave, or should Hakuba be awake… Kaito grinned at the thought. Perhaps he could prank the detective by pretending to be a simple delivery man who walked in when he noticed the door was unlocked?

Mun here instead of Hakuba:
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Alas, poor Kaito! Your princess detective is in another castle! IE, the hospital. But he’ll be home in the morning. The house is probably very quiet, nearly empty, actually… All of the staff would have gone to bed by now, and Baaya is with Hakuba.
He’s sure to see it when he gets home and, really, he could use a bit of a pick-me-up after the night he’s had. Man, you are on your way to serious brownie points.
Don’t think that I didn’t notice that the cake was yellow with chocolate frosting, which is what I always think of when describing Hakuba’s blond hair and brown eyes. I’m nodding my head in approval. I’ll make sure that he gets the message and thanks you as soon as he can.

[There was no signal to its arrival, but at some point in the day, a (not exactly wrapped) package seemed to appear on the ground beside the front door. A tidy folder with several papers inside rest beneath a box of assorted chocolates; both carefully placed so they were out of the way but wouldn’t go completely unnoticed. On the folder was a sticky note with careful (probably too careful; a bit nervous) handwriting:
“I decided I didn’t want anything to do with this case,
and I wasn’t sure what to give you for the
occasion. It turned out to be rather interesting – maybe
you can make use of it.
Do what you’d like with these. My apologies.
Happy birthday.”]

“An interesting case from my beautiful colleague, Kirigiri-san? How curious… and so sweet that she remembered my birthday."
”…goodness, it… Hm. I… I think I shall tread lightly. I am curious, but caution is prudent. Not so much for my safety, but rather, the potentially personal perspective present in these papers…“
