hannah-shikari:

She couldn’t help but pause, blinking a few times as her mind reeled back at the sudden flirtation from the male. Oh gosh, she could just feel her insides curling up in secondhand embarrassment. It took only a split-second for her impression of the male to change. The small pup by her feet got down on his belly and covered his eyes with his front paws, you could hear the small whine from him. Obviously, he shared the same sentiments as his owner.

Now, be nice, sweetheart. You dug up his garden, after all,“ nervously laughing, she was starting to reconsider her opinions on if it was safe to be around the male or not. Dear Lord, she already had enough troubles dealing with her brother’s friends, she didn’t need more of them around. ”Come on, say sorry and we have to go home now. Mom’s worried about you.

That.. .was a little unusual, wasn’t it? The sudden change in tension, as well as the nervous laughter, did not go unnoticed.  Bewildered, Hakuba slid his hands into his pockets and looked between the girl and the dog. Had he said something wrong? He’d been flirting, sure, but he’d thought it was light enough to be funny. Perhaps not.

“Ah, no, it’s all right, he doesn’t need to apologize. I’m just glad that I could help.” Hakuba bit his lip, then glanced over his shoulder, toward home. “Well, ah, it was nice meeting you, miss. I hope you have a lovely evening..”

Now that was much better. Go you for not royally botching that Emi, A+ in the boy interaction this afternoon. When he jested (or at least playfully mentioned) turning the tables on her, she chuckled again, musefully, and placed her spare hand on her hip. “Now that sounds like a truly interesting proposal, I’m obviously a notorious secret keeper, and so prestigious. Never actually accepted an interview before," That was more true than her joking let on, when she thought about it. And plenty had tried. Oh had they tried.

"Maybe I’ll make an exception, but you’ll have to earn it!~

Four pm sounds perfect. I’ll do everything in my capability not to get swept off by some glorious story in Cambodia"—(or something equally as ludicrous)—“in the meanwhile." She offered with some jest, before leaning into the phone a little, elated expression still fixed, "Now will you be needing my address, or has inventive Miss Marion already procured that on your behalf? Hhh-hm.”

“I’ll do my utmost to earn the privilege of being the first to interview you, then. As for your address, if you’d be so kind as to email it to me, that would be wonderful. I would much prefer to get the information from you, with your permission, than to encourage mum’s terrible habits.”

Hakuba spared a pointed look at his mother, who waved a hand dismissively.

“That sounds like a good idea.” Kaito nodded and got up, heading over to the bathroom. He stopped in the doorway and looked back. “Do you wish to stay the night or will you be on your way?“

"Ah…”  Hakuba blinked, confused, watching Kaito as he left. Until he realized that he was doing so. He looked up at the ceiling, flushed. “Oh… ah… well if it’s an invitation then, ah, I’d like to, certainly… To make sure that you’re doing okay… ah… But I really don’t wish to intrude.”

“A marshmallow?” The thief couldn’t help but laugh, lightly and quietly, at that, despite the flash of embarrassment the question brought back with it. “I suppose I might be. Sometimes.“

He hadn’t forgotten about their previous conversation though, but it seemed Hakuba had no further desire to continue it and as concerned as it really did make him, KID wasn’t about to put further pressure on him.

From the looks of it, that was far from what the detective needed.

So instead, he – a little reluctantly, because as well as he hid it, it was rather embarrassing. In a lot more ways than one – went along with the change in subject, lips quirking into a small, teasing grin. “But a thief is a thief and as much as that was a delivery, I did steal something too, didn’t I?”

Hakuba was greatly relieved that the change in topic had been accepted, and he smirked faintly at the question. “Steal something? I suppose that you did, yes… but I wonder if that’s only because you didn’t ask first.”

The detective wondered briefly if he was tempting fate. It would be so easy for KID to reject even that little tease. But then, the thief had broken into his bedroom in the middle of the night. And, under pretense of a delivery or not, that probably said something. Hakuba wanted to know what.

“Nice to hear that things are improving, Hakuba. How is that thing involving not being able to stop eating? Are you okay now?”

image

“Ahaha, yes, and thank god for that. I already had trouble maintaining any sort of appetite before, but after the last three days I am so very done with eating for the moment.”

“Oh. And, ah, I couldn’t help but notice that you’re no longer an itty bitty Kaitou. Nor are you a ferret. Thusly, I have two questions for you. First: how are you? Second: do you recall what I had mentioned the other day about… merciless kisses?"

“Actually, no. I’m fine right now. I just hope the person knows what they’re doing.” KID sighed and shook his head. He really did hope Sazerac knew what the hell he was doing. This was a mess. A very large one at that.

image

That was the answer that Hakuba had expected. So he sighed himself and crossed the room to the bed. It was hopeless, but that’s how things were. As he undressed again, he looked over his shoulder at KID and gave a weary smile.

“…If you ever decide you could use my help, you’ll let me know, won’t you?”

hannah-shikari:

I suppose it’s a bit hard to own a hound-type dog in the suburban areas, I don’t blame people for picking the other breeds. But Akio here is a special case, aren’t you, baby?“ the small pup merely barked in response when she smiled at him, as if he could understand the female’s words and was barking in agreement. The little cutie was her chosen life companion if she had a choice, it wasn’t a surprise that she spent as much time as she could with the little canine.

It’s the first time he’s run off like that, he’s usually so well-behaved. Plus we already have a huge back garden filled with so many plants and flowers, I can’t imagine why he would be so interested in your mother’s tulips all the way out here,” confused as she was, the not-too-little pup apparently decided that it was the perfect time to cuddle as he started to press himself onto her legs. You could already tell just how different the two’s personalities were without even trying.

It was a pleasure to watch the pair and their interactions. He understood the bond well, and it made him ache for his own dogs back in London. The detective’s smile was soft when Hakuba spoke next.

“Perhaps he wanted us to meet,” he suggested. “You never know. Animals have a highly-developed sense about that sort of thing.” Hakuba looked down at the dog. “What do you think, Akio? Destiny?”

Wowzah this wasn’t a charade even a little. He sounded a (lot) little uncomfortable on the phone, which almost made her laugh- instead, she just beamed and darted her tongue across her lower lip. “Not at all, Hakuba-sama, you’ven’t any reason t’be sorry. I was actually very… interested (?) to receive your mother’s message, eheh. And unusual’s my lifeblood in any case, so that’s hardly a reason to discount it."

She could hear Marion (shouting) whispering encouragement in the background, and couldn’t help a laugh at that, before pressing her lips against the knuckle of her index finger, shaking her head a slight. He was just as baffled by the situation as she was, it seemed.

"I’d be very interested in the chance to spend a day with you, Hakuba-sama— believe it or not, you’ve remained one of my favorite interviewees to date— and I think it’ll be nice to see you outside of such a grim atmosphere, hm?

Plus, I’d wager I’m much better company when I’m not attacking you with questions.

So, what about it? Sound alright?”

“Ah, thank you for the kind compliments, Himura-san! I’m very pleased to hear that. Yes, that sounds wonderful…” He smiled, and the tone of his voice reflected it. “You know, perhaps I could interview you for a change?"

Behind him, Marion whispered. ”Smoooooth, Saguru-chan…“

To which Hakuba rolled his eyes. "Ah. Tomorrow, then. Four pm? I could pick you up in my car."

hannah-shikari:

You wouldn’t have come to the decision if this little rascal hadn’t run off like that, silly little troublemaker,“ easing into the English tongue all too easily once it became apparent that she didn’t need to continue to use the Japanese language. Even if she did use it at home, she still missed having the chance to speak it whenever she wanted to.

Most people around me call me Hannah, or Hana as with their Japanese tongue, take your pick. Pleasure to meet you, kind sir,” she answered, offering what she hoped was an acceptable smile as she quickly wiped her hand on her mused up skirt before taking the offered appendage. The small pup merely continued to watch the exchange, tail languidly wagging side to side behind him.

image

“The pleasure’s all mine, Hannah, I assure you.” The detective shook her hand and released it afterward, immediately bringing the hand to rub the back of his head, amused. “Your dog is a cute little thing; you hardly ever see beagles around  here. Does he run away often? He seemed quite fond of my mum’s tulips.”

“Pardon my lack of tact, then." KID was weighing the options Hakuba had just presented him. Yes, it was important to prevent him from doing anything like that, but a harness would be a problem. He didn’t want anything making it easier to catch him as a human and he really didn’t like anything that felt binding or restricting.

"Mmm, well, I don’t know what you’ll do, if you try training. And I was joking.”

“Ah… I was joking, too. No apologies necessary or anything like that.” Hakuba returned to frowning, wondering where he’d gone wrong in their conversation this time. Was he always at odds with people, even those he genuinely liked to be around?

The detective got to his feet and regarded the leg on the desk.

“…I should dispose of this.” He looked over his shoulder to Kaito, the blood, the nakedness. “And… you should get cleaned up. You’ve had a very busy evening."
