Oh.

Due to his pulling her in closer, she could certainly smell his good taste in cologne. The lady could even feel his good taste in clothes, or the textures thereof. With her face so close, unbeknownst to her, violet eyes couldn’t help but see his lips. Would he also taste-?

No. I will not. Who cares? I don’t. Right, on with this, this game. Games have winners and losers and I like winning.

Sure that her inner self was blushing from the proximity, she let her eyes trail slowly to his eyes from his lips, where she er, wanted them. Purposely delaying her answer to his inquiry, she reached up to hold his cheek lightly with her free hand.

Lovely smile in place, she replied, “I must be blessed to have such a gentlemanly escort tonight.. My, I would think you would know. I have danced with you, if yesterday’s memory is correct. Or was that not the sort of dancing you were referring to?”

image

“If that’s the case, I’m afraid I’ll have to retract my earlier comment on your being a gentleman.”

“Oh no; the kind on the polished floor is what I meant. Although it’s true that we danced last night, your specifications were never quantified… or, if they were, the list was never made available to me, and I must admit that I’m curious."

Hakuba tilted his head curiously, regarding the features of her face and, yes, that lovely smile. His warm smirk in return matched his eyes as he leaned closer to her, palm pressed gently, steadily, against the small of her back.

"Though, honestly, I wouldn’t be opposed to not being such a gentleman if you had genuine interest when the night was through…” As he spoke, he kept his eyes on hers, closing the distance between their faces, even among the crowd, voice dropping to a whisper. One little kiss wouldn’t hurt anything, would it?  He moved to do just that; just a simple brush of his lips against hers, while continuing his dialogue – that is, if she didn’t prevent him from making his calculated move of seductive strategy.

“Assuming, of course. that you’re not arrested by then."

The boy’s gaze followed the movements of the brunette quietly, watching his every move. Conan watched as Hakuba untied and retied his shoelaces while they talked. “Hehh… so Hakuba-san went here to discuss something with Occhan? But, that’s strange. I’ve never heard of anything scheduled about receiving a visitor at the agency today.” And he spoke with that usual, innocent child-like tone of his, hands buried down on his pockets.

Then, as though it was such a great idea, he then diverted the topic to, “Hey, hey! What case is it all about? Tell me, Hakuba-san!” with his voice sounding like he’s some child in desperate for adult attention. Though, he wore that innocent expression on his face.

Being a little persistent are we, chiisana tantei-kun?

“Oh, I suppose I didn’t call ahead for an appointment, did I?” Hakuba asked, frowning a little at that. He’d really meant to, certainly, but… things with Mouri-san were often so frustrating for him that he liked to show up a bit unannounced in hope that the meetings would have to be – oh so unfortunately!!! – short and to the point.

“Ah, well, the case is about a drug dealer, actually… I’d heard that Mouri-san had a client that had dealt with them before, so I was hoping to cross-reference some information."

Despite the fact that his shoe was now fully tied, Hakuba stayed close to the ground so that he could watch Conan at eye-level, grin never quite leaving his face.

Lockdown Shuu and Stew || okiya-subaru

“The missing East Wind is dealing with his own problems, I speak of a dilemma comparable in some ways. Though, if you can solve what is going on with him, I feel we’re on the same page enough that I can speak freely. As for KID, I care not about revealing his identity. He helped an old friend in a time of need and I saved him in return. He’s harmless and there are much more dangerous criminals out there to hunt down.”

Subaru steepled his fingers, a smirk on his face. So this kid, for all his brashness of talk, was attentive. It would be a double-edged sword. Hakuba’s acceptance of the idea of a tutor meant he wasn’t too stubborn or proud, though. That would help in the long run, even if he wasn’t quite at Kudou’s or his level of deductive prowess yet. Whether or not he would help with the hunt was another question and it was dangerous to get yet more people involved.

"What sort of serial killer assassins are you hunting, if you don’t mind my asking? That seems vague at best. Could be Yakuza, could be another group…”

“Ah, good. I’ll take KID’s secret with me to the grave if I must, you understand. Certainly, he’s not priority at this juncture… out of my jurisdiction, almost…” Hakuba sighed at that, but turned his attention back to the matter at hand, taking another bite of stew.

“At any rate… the serial killers, well… I’m certain that one or two are associated with the same group of ‘crows’ that I have been hearing rumors about, but for the most part, they seem to be independent. And likely related to said East Wind’s… little problem.”

The foreign detective sighed, then, glancing up and over to Subaru with a sort of pouting frown. “I do have to confess, though, that that tidbit of information was given to me on a silver platter; I did not deduce it on my own and, thus, feel as though it disqualifies me at least somewhat. If I’m to be honest.”

Kita smiled when Hakuba asked her. “Yes. I have only solved about 20 cases so far. And you want to capture Kaito Kid? I want to capture him too, but he is always escaping.” Kita said with a sigh.

She then remembered the last time she faced Kid. “During the last heist, I was really close to catching Kid. I grabbed his cape when I chased him and he tried flirting with me to let go. When I refused, that thief sprayed sleeping gas in my face. When I woke up, Nakamori-keibu yelled at me for letting him get away.” Kita complained as she talked about her encounter with Kid. She looked at Hakuba. “Have you ever had an encounter with that thief?” Kita asked the half-brit, hoping if he had the same exact encounter with Kid.

Hakuba had to look away at the question, wincing smile on his face. “Oh, I’ve had several encounters with Kaitou Kid, yes. God, I’ve been thwarted by him on several occasions. He’s always got another trick up his sleeve, another way to wriggle out of your grasp.”

The detective sighed, then, expression almost fond as he turned to the book in his hands. It was a Doyle book, of all things. Chuckling, he opened it up to a random page and glanced at its contents.

“Don’t take it too hard, or too personally, He’s outfoxed even the best of our colleagues. I think that’s rather the point. But don’t give in; he does love a good chase."

[text] No, it’s a surprise! You should know that by now. : P I miss you, too.

[text] Is that supposed to be some sort of face? : P 😛

[text] Oh. My phone converted it into an icon. I see now.

[text] Why are you sticking your tongue out at me?

[text] I don’t like being locked up any more than you do. Are you /sure/ that you don’t want to run away to Paris with me? Absolutely sure? It would be very fun. I promise.

[text] Actually don’t answer that. Some day, though. Please?

Kita smiled once he handed her the novel. “Thank you, Hakuba-kun. I am a big mystery fan. Nancy Drew has been an inspiration for me to be a detective.” the high school girl explained.

She sat down in a chair in the mystery section and offered a chair to Hakuba. “So your name is Hakuba Saguru. I heard about you from the newspapers when you solve a case in Japan. What are you doing back in Japan even though you live in England?” Kita asked the half-brit.

The offer was taken, and Hakuba took the suggested seat – but only after selecting a random book on the shelf for himself. Once he was settled, one leg crossed over the other – ankle on his knee, he glanced back at the girl, nodding. Hm. So she had heard of him… and was a detective? Interesting.

“Ah, always a pleasure to meet someone who knows of my work. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. To ah, answer your question…” Hakuba paused for a moment, thoughtfully. “I’ve had several interesting cases that caught my interest – among them Kaitou KID – and since my father lives here…” He shrugged. “I was long overdue spending some time with him. So, ah, are you a detective then?”

Celebrations Over Poisonous Drinks (for Angst Week)//@whiteknighthakuba

officertakagi:

Takagi smiled, taking up the cup, “Thank you.” He raised it up to Jenma’s with Chiba following suit. Both gently touched their cups to the older officer’s, so not to spill their drinks, making a soft clink as they did so. Bringing up the cup to his mouth he took a sip. It had a slight bitterness to it. It may have just been the brand of sake or that he didn’t drink it often. It was still very good.

image

“Mm~” Takagi took another sip before setting the cup down. “How has your family been Jenma-san?” he asked. Chiba leaned forward a bit after taking a drink of his water, curious as well.

“Oh, they’ve been fine, fine,” Jenma said, lifting the cup of sake to his mouth afterward for a well-deserved drink. “My daughter-in-law is expecting… we’ll get to know the gender in the next week or so. I hope that it’s another boy. It’s always good to have more strong men in the family, ha ha!”

image

Hakuba watched the older man as he spoke, disguising the bored disappointment that he had begun to feel behind a tired smile. He took another sip, then cleared his throat. “Your daughter-in-law… is she the one that’s married to, ah, Jun?”

“Yep, that’s the one! Three sons so far, they tell me they’re hoping for at least two more, and then they can start on daughters.” He poured more sake for himself, then looked to Takagi, inclining his head.

The door slammed shut and the detective threw off the tarp that had been covering her. Somehow not a single person stopped her as she practically ran home; fueled by nothing but fear and adrenaline. She also somehow managed to stay conscious despite all she had been through.

Of course it had been a trap. She expected absolutely nothing else – that’s why she locked up her computer and shut down Alter Ego except for microphone and camera functions (the program was already powering itself back up when Kyouko arrived home, but there were more important things to think about than the increasingly worried computer). Minimizing her casualties – it was best she didn’t lose anything important at her home just in case something happened to her.

The detective stumbled into the bathroom and collapsed onto the toilet seat. With a towel and a roll of bandages in hand, she lifted up her shirt and flinched at the sight. It looked a lot worse than it was, because only half of the blood was hers. But it was still worse than she expected, and Kyouko knew she would have to start acting quickly, just in case she lost too much blood and passed out.

She really didn’t know how she was alive right now.

[text] Kirigiri-san, I have an important question to ask you.

[text] Are you home? May I come over?

[text] There’s a case and…. it’d be easier to explain in person.

The girl glared at being called short, even though she was only 6 inches shorter than him.

“I am trying to reach for the Nancy Drew novel. My name is Kita Yamashita. And you are?” Kita asked after she introduced herself to the young man.

“Hakuba Saguru,” the half-brit replied, smile turning to a faint wince at the glare. “Interesting choice, Nancy Drew. I must confess that it’s been a number of years since I’ve read any of them."

Hakuba turned his attention back to the shelf and plucked the requested novel from the shelf. He turned it over in his hand as he lowered it, glancing at the title, then offered it to her.

"Mystery fan?”

kitameguire:

It was a sunny day at the public library in Tokyo. A high school girl with black hair was in the mystery section. She was trying to get a book that she wanted, but it was too high for her to reach. She tried standing on her toes to get the book, but that failed.

“Damn it! Why must the good books always be on the high shelf?”

image

“Perhaps so that those who are on the shorter end of the spectrum…” The voice came from behind her, belonging to a young man in suit and tie. He reached up, his own height allowing him reasonably easy reach to to the entire shelf. “..have a chance to meet those on the taller end? Hah. Which book are you looking for, miss…?”

He turned toward her with a smile, waiting for a name and further instruction.
