Teasing from Hakuba? Him not giving all his information up front? Certainly a surprise. This would have to be done more often.

KID let his fingers play along Hakuba’s back, noting the smooth skin and slight patches that had a difference, somewhat rougher and nearly undetectable normally. (One needed to have very sensitive fingers and ears to crack safes, after all.) He would have to check that later more closely.

Were there cases of other phantom thieves doing this sort of thing with their detectives? He would have to check that later, also. He doubted he’d dig up too much; secrecy was downright important. Still, he tried touching what he could, softly and gently, aiming for the subtlety of a dove’s wings. Back, arms thighs, waist, crotch, hips…

The detective appreciated each touch and let KID do as he pleased, Although he tensed briefly at the touch to the scars on his back, he relaxed almost immediately after. Such a careful touch… There was no joy greater than to feel wanted like this. More often indeed; Hakuba didn’t dare yet hope that this – whatever this was – could become a regular occurrence.

Certain attentions brought quiet sounds from his lips, something between a hum and a purr that left him breathless  as he pulled back from KID’s throat. Withholding information seemed to have worked quite well for play… but then, Hakuba had always known that KID was a curious one. He looked to his face, kissing the thief again with no disguise for the warmth or passion he felt. Even though the red tint of Kaito’s eyes concerned him, nagged at him, he still thought they were as alluring as ever.

Kaito hadn’t reacted earlier in a way that indicated that he knew what the foreign phrase meant, so Hakuba made use of it again.  Tu as de très beaux yeux…”  He removed the rest of his shirt and dropped it aside, both hands moving next to sit at KID’s hips, fingers teasing by hooking just underneath the hem. “Tu me rends fou. Qu’est-ce que je ferais sans toi?”

“Oh?” Letting Hakuba take charge was an interesting little change of pace. Usually he was leading, as the thief, and the detective followed, even earlier and in other circumstances. He nuzzled Hakuba, relaxing under the touches.

“Really, now?” If he were honest, he was curious about what Hakuba had come up with, but he didn’t want to ruin the moment, especially since Hakuba was stammering so much earlier. But a bit of his pride rejoiced at this. Having one of his detectives “wrapped around his finger" was a nice feeling.

He wanted them happy and safe, in spite of their chase. Easiest if they were attached to him in ways that he could protect them. And it was helpful that it was mutual feeling. (…Now he was starting to understand the logic behind that ‘jewelry box’ metaphor.)

It might have been the alcohol. It could have been the warmth and closeness and subsequent routine attached to that. Perhaps it was the higher-functioning of the detective’s brain shorting out from being fried with far too much traumatic information all at once in conjunction with having crossed a barrier with the one he was most fond of without, apparently, any negative effects. At the moment, he couldn’t comprehend any of it; not completely. So it was ignored and pushed aside for later.

Hakuba relaxed.

“Mmmmm-hmm,” he said, mouth to skin as he moved from KID’s neck to his shoulder, pressing his palm against the small of the thief’s back. The detective rolled his own shoulder, reaching up to pull at his collar, then at the sleeve, undressing himself.

“But I think I’ll make you wait… Wouldn’t want to give too much away all at once.”

Was Hakuba… teasing? The satisfied, almost predatory smirk remained on his lips, even as he closed his eyes and focused his attentions on KID’s neck, next.

KID didn’t have a clue what that meant, though the tone was indicative. The shirt slipped off easily and he took the moment to give another kiss, slipping his hands down to Hakuba’s hips.

Hunger was an apt metaphor for this. The taste of scotch was still on Hakuba’s lips and this just made KID more enthusiastic.

After the kiss, Hakuba discarded the shirt over the edge of the bed. He then took a brief moment to loosen his tie the rest of the way, slipping it from his neck with one hand. The other he placed on KID’s thigh and slid it to his hip, then around to his back. Fingers traced up KID’s back, appreciating the warm, smooth skin. Briefly, he leaned away, reaching down to assist as he kicked off his shoes.

Then it was back to the thief, lowering his head to kiss at his shoulders and collarbone.

“I had a speech prepared,” he said, voice soft between each nibbling kiss. “All about how you have your detective wrapped around your finger…"

It seemed safe enough to admit that piece of information, and although he was far more comfortable showing his desire than talking about it, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to test boundaries. That is, if they even existed at all.

Laughing was good. At least, that meant this wasn’t being taken so seriously that all the fun was ruined. Though he, were he asked about this, would also be confused. Going from avoidance and mockery to this was… drastic, to say the least. (Definitely would be interesting, if time travel were possible and if he were to tell his past self about this. The sheer disbelief would be hilarious.)

Again, that silver cross necklace that Hakuba had… Hakuba was so embarrassed and worried by it, for whatever reason. He gave a shrug and trailed his fingers along Hakuba’s sides. “It’s fine.“

No barbed comments, no mocking laugh. Just touch and patience. Hakuba pulled the cross free from his neck, chain hanging from his hand as he turned aside and tossed it onto the bed. Then, back to KID. He moved closer, hands once again reaching for KID’s hips and the bottom of his shirt, touch more eager, more confident.

"Sorry about that… no more interruptions.” Hakuba let out a hesitant breath, steeling himself, then leaned in to murmur against KID’s ear, pulling upward at the fabric. “J’ai envie de toi.”

Somehow, switching to French made it so much easier to think. He had no idea if KID spoke the language or not, but there were no lists of pros and cons, no entrenched drama, just that hunger.

KID nodded, still grinning. He started unbuttoning Hakuba’s shirt, giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Wonderful.“

Good to know, but this… It was wisest and most prudent if nobody, apart from themselves, knew of this. One of his detectives getting removed from heists due to possible conflict of interest was something he would rather not have.

Though he couldn’t resist a few sneaky touches along Hakuba’s chest and abdomen between buttons. He was aiming both to tease Hakuba with this drawn out process and to give him some time to think. After all, one doesn’t just fool around with a criminal one chases for shits and giggles. And it didn’t seem like Hakuba was doing so flippantly, so that was good. (KID would end it now, if it was a flippant thing.)

There was no way in hell that Hakuba would breathe a word about this to anyone. Not as things were. For so, so many reasons.

Hakuba, meanwhile, loosened his tie some, lowering his hands afterward to not get in KID’s way. Each teasing touch thrilled him, distracted him. He reached for the bottom of KID’s shirt, movements clumsy compared to how he usually handled things like this, and he laughed.

What was even happening? How did they come to this?

He leaned toward KID, trying not to obstruct his work, but wanting to kiss and nibble at his neck. Just to taste him. And then he remembered, just as enough buttons parted from him, that he was still wearing the cross.

It swung free under his tie, flashing silver. Hakuba blanched and looked down, face paling somewhat, despite the blush. "Ah…"

He reached for it, to grasp it in his palm and hide it, but he knew KID would have seen it. And, Hakuba realized as he shifted from him, startled, if they continued, KID was sure to see the scars, too.

"S-sorry… just a moment.” He reached a hand to the back of his neck, fishing for the clasp to free the chain. With his tie and collar in the way, he couldn’t just pull it over his head.

Only thing he couldn’t sort out was himself? Well, nobody said love was easy and it would be difficult if the other person was confused. If he were being honest, it did surprise him, how easily the most logical types seemed to have the most problems with emotions. Then again, emotions were very messy and mixed things.

Still, KID pulled away for the moment, grinning devilishly. (With the eyes in combination with that, that was probably creepy on some level, but he really didn’t think about that.) “Are you sure you wish to continue? If you cannot sort it out, I feel like I’m not being a gentleman for continuing onward, Hakuba.“

Something about that expression reminded the detective of that Koizumi girl. Hakuba reluctantly removed his hand from KID, biting his lip afterward. Words. Always words. Confirmations, written statements, conclusive evidence. He appreciated that KID was asking for permission but the last thing he wanted to do was outright state that, yes, he wanted KID. He wanted to be with him with a longing ache that he’d been staving off for a very long time. He cared for Kaito, worried for him. Went to the heists still, despite having sworn off actually attempting capture, to make sure that he would make it out okay. But he couldn’t say that because, despite the evidence, he did not know in absolute, concrete, certain terms that KID felt the same way.

And even if he did, would that make a difference? Would either of them be safe from each other?  Was Hakuba mistakenly taking things far too seriously?

Hakuba glanced toward the bottle of scotch sitting on the coffee table, hesitating. How was he getting cold feet now?!

"You are a gentleman,” Hakuba said at first, sighing. “And… I do… want you to continue. Very much so. It’s just…" He licked his lips, took a breath, then pushed a smile as he turned back to KID. "Very difficult to.. say it.”

KID stopped grinning and blinked for a moment. This was certainly not something he expected from the detective who was most icy. Did he have to spell it out? Fine by him. He smiled slightly and licked his lips.

He pulled Hakuba into another kiss, careful to be exceedingly gentle. That anxious look had concerned him. No need to scare the turtle back into his shell due to his own flames.

When he pulled away again, he said, “I’m surprised. Usually you’re more of a detective than this.“  He kissed along Hakuba’s neck once more.

Hakuba sighed in relief once they parted and relaxed, melting under the thief’s attention. Whatever KID was doing, it was very effective.

"I think…” he murmured, shifting to get closer, pressing the side of his head against Kaito’s cheek. “…I’m the only thing I can’t sort out. No amount of investigation, or deduction… mmn… maths…”

The detective turned his head to return the kisses, moving a hand across the thief, resting it at his side. If his blush, which had spread to his ears, weren’t enough of an indication that he liked this, the nuzzling he started might be.

“It is fine. I thought you hated me for the longest time as well. Between the bickering and the attempts to get me to confess about being KID…” He grinned impishly, though he was still close to Hakuba.

The blush was adorable, if he were being honest. Not that he’d say that to Hakuba. Though it’d make him blush more, KID didn’t want to overdo it. He’d been through quite a bit already tonight and flustering him even more would be rude and unwise.

“Maybe you should listen to your presumptions.”

That… That was not at all how Hakuba had expected Kaito to react. Startled, he turned to the thief again, eyes wide and uncharacteristically honest. Vulnerable. He didn’t dare smile because he didn’t understand. What had he meant by that?

The end result was a red-faced anxious detective, stunned to silence with confusion, concern, hope, despair, and fear written all over him at once. It was not a side that he showed to anyone, really. Not at all the calm, cold, and collected front that he usually presented.

He gulped, swallowing hard, hanging on every word, afraid that if he said anything, he’d destroy everything.

But oh, how he wanted to kiss him again.

phantom-thief-kid:

“I kid a bit, Hakuba. I wouldn’t mind if we continued a bit with drinking, but not to the point of everything become a muddied blur.”

The way Hakuba was acting made him grin. He kissed Hakuba’s cheek. “What do you mean, though? You seem rather flustered… Are you not used to this?” A legitimate question on KID’s part. He was completely unaware of Hakuba’s private life.

“Ah… not… exactly…”

Hakuba turned his head away and dropped his head into his hands and groaned. If there was ever a time that he regretted his life choices, this moment was at the top of the list. God, how to explain? These moments, looking back in retrospect at of everything, it seemed quite obvious that the detective was a complete idiot. But how to convey that while also making it clear how he really felt about Kaito?

“Bloody hell…” Hakuba sighed. Was it his turn to tell Kaito far more information than he’d ever asked for? “Hotel rooms are wonderful for social calls and… networking which, you know, is… working. Ah… I…"

Was he explaining it well? Did he need to elaborate? Wait, what had he even said so far? Perhaps a different approach.

"For the longest time, I thought you couldn’t stand me. I watched you, got to know you from a distance. I’ve become quite fond of you. But I never expected that you…”   What, return the affection? What if Kaito didn’t actually care and this was all casual for him?

Blushing furiously, Hakuba looked down at the carpet just beyond his feet.

“My apologies, I don’t want to presume anything. Not that there’s anything to presume. I just mean…”

Shit.

phantom-thief-kid:

“You can call me Kaito if you want. Just be careful in public, as I would rather I didn’t get arrested. And I wasn’t aware that the full moon was then… This will be interesting, at least.” Oh, shit. “Maybe make it part of the act. I could put in fake fangs and add in a trick or two to incorporate vampires or something similar.

“Though you request that, I will say this. If you get drunk, it may dull the awareness for a time, but you eventually snap back and have to deal with whatever it is you’re avoiding.” KID kissed Hakuba’s neck lightly, then leaned and whispered in Hakuba’s ear. “I hope I’m not that much of a pain, that you’d rather drink yourself into a stupor.”

The detective’s mind was trying to wrap itself around the relevancy of vampires with limited success when all of that came to an abrupt halt. First, it occurred to Hakuba that Kaito might be rejecting his request for more alcohol. That was a pain. Secondly – oh, god, the closeness, the touch to his neck, the… the whisper. Warm breath on his ear..

Hakuba let out a huff of air and took a moment to steady himself, head muddled with distractions.

“N-no…Kaito-kun…” he shook his head, chest aching with the burning flutter of his heart. “…God, no. I mean, if I can’t have both…”

What was he saying?!

“Ah, I mean-! You and… and, we… Ah…"

Flustered, he winced and turned his head to Kaito, Just how poorly was he doing in this whole rendezvous, anyway?
