olive-the-olive: meitantei-kun: Gosho Aoyama knows we miss Shinichi so he gives us all these look alikes.  Kaito Kid, Heiji, Saguru Hakuba, random guy, and THE ORIGINAL! But man…that killer stare. …but Kaitou Kid IS the original. His series came first. All the others have his face, not the other way around. I was about to […]

[2:10:10 AM] Gab: LOL omg
[2:10:20 AM] Gab: that would be his /role/ in the fandom 😀
[2:10:32 AM] Melkior: YES
[2:10:34 AM] Gab: this is what I have currently written for the fandom synopsis:
[2:10:35 AM] Gab: Detective Conan – Famous high school detective Kudou Shinichi has gone into hiding after an attempt on his life (which left him in the body of a 6 year-old), and now has to solve crimes while pretending not to in an effort to find out how to get his life back.

Magic Kaito – When obnoxious high school class clown Kuroba Kaito discovers that his father was once secretly the illustrious Phantom Thief KID, he must serious up and take on the mantle to discover the truth behind the mysterious circumstances behind his father’s death/murder.
[2:10:42 AM] Gab: since he’s from two… .. . and they are run-on sentences … and I should be nicer to Kaito (Hakuba is upset wtih me)
[2:11:32 AM] Melkior: loveable class clown
[2:12:03 AM] Gab: Hakuba: That’s… … … a little /strong/, I think, but it’s certainly better than ‘obnoxious’ … even if that’s occasionally the truth…
[2:12:13 AM] Gab: Hakuba: <_<;; at least he's better than Hattori
[2:12:29 AM] Melkior: "A slight affinity leaning toward the side of likeable" Class clown.
[2:14:03 AM] Gab: LOL
[2:14:10 AM] Gab: Hakuba: This is getting somewhat complicated.
[2:15:30 AM] Gab: Hakuba: It also depends on where in the series we're referencing, as he was /very/ obnoxious in the beginning… but, depending on which KID (such as Shuu's), 'sexy' would be more apt… Sexy high school class clown… Talented… suave… thoughtful~
[2:15:38 AM] Gab: hakuba stop no this is not a love letter to kid
[2:15:48 AM] Gab: Hakuba: True! It's a love letter to Kuroba-kun <3
[2:15:51 AM] Gab: no hakuba NO
[2:15:53 AM] Gab: it's NOT
[2:16:01 AM] Gab: Hakuba: .. … oh. Right.
[2:16:17 AM] Melkior: omg
[2:16:53 AM] Melkior: DEAR SEXY SMOOTH class clown KAITO KUROBA join me in bed tonight STOP STEALING THINGS.
[2:17:16 AM] Gab: Hakuba: Now THAT is a wonderful synposis of the series from my perspective. ^o^
[2:17:22 AM] Melkior: 😀
[2:17:30 AM] Gab: Hakuba: I give it an A+.
[2:18:06 AM] Gab: geez
[2:19:15 AM] Melkior: I NAILED IT

Re: Sweetieba #2

i dont interpret hakuba as being a huge sweetie? more like… very charming. he can be very nice and he can also very adversarial and even manipulative. he thinks a lot of himself and he wants others to think a lot of him too.

This is a perfectly valid interpretation, and one of the reasons why I like him as a character so much. I think he makes a fantastic antagonist and foil (more on this later) for this reason. I think he’s both, honestly. Certainly not without flaw, and there are good reasons why people like Heiji don’t like him. I try to play him from the mindset of “sympathetic villain.” I think his heart is in the right place, but he’s… often a bit too persnickety to be truly effective. 😀

And these Sweetieba posts are written to be persuasive and, yes, intentionally manipulative. I write from this angle as a stylistic choice (since this is a Hakuba blog it only seems fair that I would let his brand of influence set the pace) – and because it’s genuinely fun to challenge people to consider alternative perspectives on things, such as characters that may have been previously dismissed as just a jerk, etc.

So yes, a bit over-the-top, but that’s on purpose. 🙂

…I do think that he’s sweet. But also a jerk. Both. A walking contradiction with vast potential for character development. A writer’s dream in a lot of ways because he’s so complex and SO different from the other Gosho boys. <3 <3 <3

((PS I was supposed to reply to you regarding Spider’s inclusion in the anime like, forever ago? But am still figuring out how I feel about it. I haven’t forgotten, though!))

The ‘Master Watch’ – please note that it has no milliseconds. Hakuba is just making all of that up (not that anyone could verify). Correct me if I’m wrong, but those tiny dials likely relate to the date and/or military time.  What a little shit.
