Sycamores, Orange Roses, and a single Orange Lily and Sunflower are laid on the other’s desk that day, Begonias and Lavender wrapped up in a separate bouquet and set on the school chair.

SYCAMORE: Curiosity
ROSE (ORANGE): Fascination
LILY (ORANGE): Hatred
SUNFLOWER: Gratitude

“…was it really necessary to give me two bouquets of this nature? I was already aware that you abhorred me…”

So while Hakuba’s mom is here

Might I remind you that this will be the best time to tell her of his adventures while he’s on Tumblr

Like the goat, and the getting KIDs pregnant thing, also the drunk texting

Though we might not see Hakuba until he’s like 40 if we do pfft

“…has he been doing drugs again? Please tell me he hasn’t.”

“Probably pointless to ask, yeah,” he answered with a small smile, arms still comfortably tucked behind him, the perfect picture of ease. Though underneath his casual aura he was still very much paying attention to the details. As per usual.

The nickname had caught his attention however. It had been awhile since anyone had used it. It had been awhile since anyone had called him anything at all, actually. As far as ‘Shinichi’, that is.

“Around here it was ‘Heisei Holmes’. The other is yours to keep. I thought everyone had forgotten, though. It’s kind of nice to hear that again,” he added with a chuckle. “As you can imagine, I don’t really get the kind of publicity I used to. No more tabloids for now. But as for food…

"Hmm, today’s special is the cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches but I would actually recommend the French Dip with au jus. It’s a little heavier but you get more for your money and it’s warm.”

“French Dip sounds fine to me,” Hakuba said, considering the particular food only after the fact. Protein was good, but it did sound heavier, yes, and he often had difficulty eating in situations where he wasn’t at ease. Which included having lunch with his idol. Though, he could always get the rest to go– that wasn’t too awfully awkward, was it?

And then there was the matter of the titles. “The Heisei Holmes and the Modern Day Sherlock Holmes sit together in a cafe called Poirot, discussing books, tea, and how good we are at analyzing each other.”

Hakuba smirked, then, attempting to force himself to relax. Things weren’t going to go any better if he stayed so tense, after all; it would serve them nothing. “I think our networking is going quite well so far, don’t you?”

Idle Weather Shop Talk

The voice hadn’t so much startled her but it was surprising to say the least. She had ventured a little further from Beika and hadn’t been expecting to see anyone she knew. It seemed that her idea had been correct, but this person still seemed to know her which was strange enough on its own.

“I am,” she replied, glancing over at him cautiously. Blond hair and mixed features, polite manner of speech, knowledge of her profession, young age… “You must be one as well. A detective, I mean.”

Guard up. He could still be one of them.

image

“Yes, that’s right.” It didn’t surprise him that she didn’t already know his name, though Hakuba felt a little disappointed, regardless. He wasn’t nearly as famous as Kudou, after all, and his travelling schedule kept him out of the Japanese limelight far too often– at least for Baaya’s taste, apparently, given how often she complained to him about it.

“Hakuba Saguru. A pleasure to meet you, Sera-san. I’ve heard good things about you. From…” Hakuba tilted his head to look her over, curiously. “America, if I remember correctly. At least recently.” He took a sip of his coffee. “Is that correct?”

osakapride:

“It dun sound like yer askin’ fer my help at all.” He took a few deep breaths. He hated losing his cool in front of someone he was already on thin ice with. “I jus’ know yer ways and ya ain’t foolin’ me. Dun act like ya suddenly need me fer anythin’.”

image

“And if anyone is doin’ the missin’ ‘round here, it’s definitely all on yer shoulders.”

“Awwww,” Hakuba crooned into the phone, though he wondered just how much of it was actually true. He had a certain degree of begrudging respect for the Osakan, it was true, and he’d at one point really, truly hoped that they could have been friends, but now… at least he enjoyed their banter. “Does that please you? That I miss you, I mean.”

A pause.

“Not that I do. Actually, and yes, I do need your help, and I believe that I’ve already outlined it. You’re in with Kudou-san, and I need to know where he is. Could you pass the message along for him, please?”

Ha. Ha.

“Th’ day after tomorrow good wi’ y’?”

“Yes,” Hakuba said, grimacing a little at the obvious little quirk in the woman. He hadn’t meant to insult her, really. Or, perhaps he had, but he hadn’t meant to do it quite so overtly. He was going to try a lot harder if he was going to avoid stirring Kazuha’s ire any more than he already had. “Yes, that day will be perfect. I’ll pick you up at six.”

It would either turn out quite well or simply awful. Hakuba wasn’t sure which, but it’d be an experience either way.
