[text] You’re not drunk are you? Or are you just horribly embarrassed and thus are babbling in response?

[text] you’re the awful one for telling my dad he’s attractive. it’s going to go to his head.

[text] and if he tells my mother about it i’m going to have to hear it from her too

[text] and i don’t know why you’re complaining. you’re far more attractive then i am.

[text] so stop babbling.

[text] even if i do love you being so thoroughly flustered.

[text] Fine, if you’d like me to “stop babbling,” I’ll be succinct: I didn’t mean to get you into trouble, honestly I didn’t! And no, you’re far more attractive than me, you’re Kudou Shinichi! Don’t you dare! Also, please stop delighting in my suffering!

[text] Honestly Kudou-kun…

[text] Sorry I told your dad he was hot and made things awkward.

meitantei-cowlick:

Shinichi had to try hard not to choke on the drink of coffee he’d just taken as he read his phone. What in the hell had possessed Hakuba to say such a thing to his dad?! Why?

[text] W-why did you tell him he’s hot?

[text] No, don’t answer that, please. I don’t want to know.

[text] I shouldn’t have asked.

And he definitely wasn’t imagining his dad and Hakuba and- Oh god, he wants to throw up a little thinking about his dad like that.

[text] IT’S NOT MY FAULT THAT YOUR FATHER IS A VERY ATTRACTIVE AND TALENTED MAN

[text] HONESTLY THAT’S  PROBABLY WHERE YOU GET IT FROM

[text] WELL AND YOUR MUM

[text] GOD THE KUDOU FAMILY IS GOING TO KILL ME

[text] BLOODY HELL JUST ERASE ALL OF THESE TEXTS

[text] I’m SORRY

[text] CURSE YOUR INCREDIBLY SEXY AND BRILLIANT FAMILY. YOU’RE ALL AWFUL. AND PERFECT.

[text] oh MYGOD WHY AM I STILL TEXTING

Whisper

It had been a long night chasing criminals, and while the exercise – both physical and mental – had been good and good for them, Hakuba couldn’t ignore the exhaustion that plagued all of him, inside and out, as he stood up from the couch. “Thank you for having me over for the reports,” he said, watching Shinichi with a little smirk on his face. “I’m about to drop, though, so I’ll see you in the morning, hm?”

He gathered his paperwork and stuffed it into the briefcase he took everywhere, then gave a nod and strode toward the door. Kudou went with him, and Hakuba found himself pleased at that turn of events, waiting or him to say something, but in the end, all either of them could manage was a helpless little shrug or nod. And when they both realized this, the two detectives blushed, awkwardly nodding again, trying to murmur a goodbye and take care before Hakuba suddenly found himself whispering, “I love you."

The blond blinked, eyes widening as he searched Shinichi’s face to see if he’d heard that, and quickly backed out of the door with a wincing smile.

WELL THEN.

Lucky Thirteen

He traced his fingers along the underside of the desk, and frowned when the traction was all too slick. Pulling back revealed what he’d feared; blood smeared on the tips of his gloves.

“That makes thirteen,” Hakuba said, pulling off the pair with a sigh. “No body, no forced sign of entry, just blood in precarious places.” He turned to his companion for the case, one Kudou Shinichi, letting his shoulders sag in obvious disappointment. “Do you suppose this sample will match any of the others?”

If the blood found in the office buildings had belonged to one sample, it might be nothing more than a disgusting prank or threat, but the fact that the previous twelve had matched DNA samples of twelve independent sources – all of which happening to be missing people – spoke more of murder. Which is why the first division was called in, including the consulting half-brit, as an attempt to give Kudou someone more his ‘age’ to work with.

Unfortunately, clues had been few and far between, and they only ever knew where to look because of the mysterious notes delivered anonymously to the station in the morning. Day thirteen, another note, another drive to yet another large corporate building, and another desk with blood all along the underside of it, but no where else.

An interesting mystery to be sure, but no less frustrating.

Shinori is rather confused by all this talk of Hakuba being pretentious. “I don’t see how he’s being pretentious? Ah, with all due respect.”

“That’s very sweet of you to say, but not everyone takes to his criticism very well… and he’s often quite insensitive with the things that he says. Normally, he’s very well behaved and polite, but… occasionally, he puts his foot – loudly – right into his own mouth.”
