The Famous Detective Couple: Expecting?!

japansfamousdetective:

“We definitely need some curtains for that room, I can’t wait to finish it.” A hand moved to her cheek to rest there, smiling so brightly she almost seemed to glow. The other clung happily to Hakuba’s as he pulled her into the hallway.

“I think it works perfectly for an office for now. We’ve got some time as it is of course, to move things around~ Though at this rate I fear it’ll end up being covered in bookshelves we have so many books.” A small sigh, leaning against him a moment as his hand moved against her back to rest against her waist. She did so love it when he held her like that. “And I even left most of my books at home!”

As he pulled her for the door, she tucked a piece of hair behind an ear, not really bothering to maybe smooth out the slightly disheveled look that had over taken her from unpacking. Sometimes she thought she looked cuter that way. She did pause to slip her boots back on and grab a jacket though.

“Well, did we ever decide if we wanted to pain that room or leave it the color it is now? Beige isn’t a bad color on those walls, after all and it would save some prep time. If we left the color sage would work really well.”

“We could always just do an accent wall, as well… though I do like the beige as-is…”  There were so many decisions to make when turning an apartment into a home; he definitely saw some of the madness behind both of his parents’ homes the deeper he got into it himself. “But you might also be right about the books. I’ve left so many at home, both in Ekoda and in England… If I were to bring them all over, there really wouldn’t be any room for anything else between the two of us, would there?”

He laughed, keeping step behind her as he pulled on his own milford coat and scarf, leaning in to kiss the back of her neck without any warning. Teasing, affectionate.

“We may have to get an entirely new apartment just for our library…”

The Famous Detective Couple: Expecting?!

japansfamousdetective:

At his relief she gave a smile of apology, moving to rest a hand on his arm. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you.” She’d just been so intent on getting her work done, but then she was like that with everything.

“A break sounds wonderful, lord knows I could use some food too.” Pausing, she laughed a little bit at that. “Listen to me, you’ve actually managed to get me to admit when I need to eat! How could you?”

She understood a little bit about being lost in the new home, smaller then their actual home (though about the same size-ish) when she lived at the Kudo Manor. It would take a little time to get used to this place. Their place.

“Where ever you want to go, I’m game. Just as long as food comes into the picture at some point.”

He laughed, pulling away from the doorframe to really look her over. “I’ll make certain of it, dear. Definitely food. Probably on the way back. I was thinking we could look at some curtains… for our office?” Hakuba took her hand and tugged her to the hallway, gesturing with his free arm to the other bedroom.

“It’ll be our office for now, but eventually… Unless you think it would be better in the bedroom?  Anyway, we need to make this apartment look a little bit more… I don’t know… lived in, don’t you?”

He looked into the room, covered in book cases and desks waiting to be put together, then back at her, drawing a hand to her back and around her waist.

“Pink or blue… perhaps a more gender-neutral sort of color… green? Sage?” Hakuba pulled his keys out of his pockets, then tugged her toward the door. “I’ll drive.”

The Famous Detective Couple: Expecting?!

japansfamousdetective:

She’d admit to having thought of talking him into waiting until Spring, but hearing him so excited for the idea just made her excited… And really whenever the pair got excited about something there was nothing to do but to move in. Besides, the smaller place was nice and helped ease some of her anxieties. And was definitely not as lonely as the Kudo Manor was.

Not that she could be lonely with Hakuba at her side.

Hearing him call her finally, it helped that he’d reached the bedroom, Shinori poked her head out of the bathroom and smiled some. “Sorry, Hakuba-kun~ I was unpacking the toiletries.” Because she was going to get one box unpacked for sure and would likely need a bath later in the evening so she might as well.

A bright smile was on her face, strands of hair clinging to her face as the dark locks continued to fall from the half-assed ponytail she’d thrown her hair back into. If only so it would stop clinging to her neck.

“What were you saying love?”

“God, I swear…” Hakuba said, giving a sigh of relief at having found her, and leaned on the doorframe, watching her. “This apartment is infinitely smaller than the estate, but still large enough that I’m getting lost. Do you think you might be able to take a break?”

It was strange, living with someone. They weren’t even fully moved in, obviously – most of their furniture wouldn’t be there until the next day or so, being delivered by such-and-such company at whatever time – but it was so very odd to have someone around all of the time. Even at the dorms, he never saw his roommate. Ever. Really, he might have seen him at most for fifteen minutes a day if that. And then, they’d carefully divided the room.

Here, they were sharing. And, as easy-going and agreeable as Hakuba normally was, he wasn’t used to that at all.

Not that it was really a problem, he just didn’t know how to relax in it. He smiled, though, at her hair and her flushed face from working, giving another sigh. “I was thinking we could go to the hardware store.. or something… perhaps pick up a bite to eat, hm? Carryout, even?"

The Famous Detective Couple: Expecting?!

No one should ever be so lucky, but Hakuba had managed, somehow. He looked around the mostly empty living room and gave a sigh, wiping his brow with the back of his hand, then looked over toward the adjoining kitchen. It was a small place, only two bedrooms, one bath, and no washer and dryer, but it was nice. They could have afforded a better place, probably, but this one was nestled right between the university and the metropolitan police station, close to a train line, and in a charming – and safe! – neighborhood.

The blond took stock of the moving boxes that were still scattered around the floor, only half of them opened, and even less unpacked. It was a lot to be doing so soon after exams, but there wasn’t a lot of time before the next term. Really, they probably should have waited to move in together until the spring, but once the impulsive idea had been sprung, there was nothing to stop the pair of stubborn detectives.

Besides, neither of them could ever back down from a challenge, especially not when it was so terribly exciting.

“Shinori-kun…?” Hakuba called, scratching the side of his head as he checked his watch, pulling himself away from the boxes marked with the kanji for ‘dishes’ and ‘linens.’ “I think now would be an excellent time for a break, don’t you?"

He wandered into the little hallway, nearly tripping over one of the many boxes marked ‘books,’ then put his hand over where they hoped to have a stacked washer/dryer installed in the upcoming months, smirking at the ugly, tattered wallpaper that they still needed to tear down.

"I thought we could take a little drive… perhaps go look for some better curtains, like we’d talked about? Perhaps blue, or…” Hakuba poked his head into the bedroom that they’d designated to be their joint office, looked around, then started to the room where the bed was, still only a mattress with headboard, legs, and other parts leaned against the wall.

“Darling, where did you go?"

A History of Perfect Mistakes

japansfamousdetective:

It didn’t help when he cocked his head and it was so much like a nervous puppy. And oh god she wasn’t going to be able to stop equating him to a golden retriever. Her adorable, precious little golden retriever.

God help her, she was too far down the rabbit hole now.

His laughter was surprising, but welcome and it helped to soothe her laughter down to giggles. Then to a content sigh. Thankfully because she hadn’t been sure how much longer her sides could have handled all the laughter. Maybe she needed to laugh more.

“If I were to use any of those, Hakuba, I’d probably use ‘hopeless’.” A small twitch of a smirk as she smoothed down the rumpled robe. “For ‘hopelessly adorable’."

She loved him so much, all facets of him, and she hoped to maybe one day be able to express that to him. Today, or at least not that moment, wasn’t the day. Her mind seemed to kind of die at his compliments and she opened her mouth to argue against them.

Except that she found, for once, she didn’t want to. There was a swell in her heart and it was a feeling that she didn’t want to be rid of. Was that… what it was like to be loved?

"I… am up for whatever you wish to do, Hakuba.” Because she really didn’t care as long as it was with him.

Although he was used to picking up the slack where decisions were concerned in that sort of situation, it was unusual for the headstrong Shinori to be so accommodating. Or, perhaps it wasn’t; he had an impression of her in his head but, really, when not in dire straights, she was usually agreeable, wasn’t she?

Oh, he was so fond of her.

Finally, he reached for her, hands gentle as they came to caress the bathrobe over her back, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead. His arms circled her, anxiety melting away with the warmth of her presence, and Hakuba smiled in a way that was nothing if not serene.

“I’ll ask Baaya to bring something by… we can eat in bed, if you’re feeling up to it. We’ll have to get some more studying in eventually, but…"

A bouquet wrapped in blue and gold, a silver ribbon keeping the flowers from just falling from the decorative paper. Shinori had wanted something a little more… fancy… to give him, but in the end she’d gone with something simple and maybe a little more practical. A frustration she tried to hide as she handed him the wonderful mix of flowers she’d put together herself. Geranium, Violet, Dill, Zinnia, Red and Orange Roses, as well as Tuberose. Such an odd mix.

GERANIUM: True friendship
VIOLET: Loyalty
DILL: Lust
ZINNIA: Memories
ROSE (ORANGE): Fascination
ROSE (RED): Passionate love
TUBEROSE: Pleasure

“Kudo-kun! That’s… I’m touched, thank you so much, my darling.” He took the bouquet and smiled at it for just a moment before holding his arm out to the side so that he could draw her against him and lean down to kiss her.

japansfamousdetective:

“Everyone has the right to speak their mind, regardless of fame or how the other person handles the information being said.”

This conversation feels frustrating to her and she’s struggling to find the words to properly explain herself. Of course it might be because the woman is a bit intimidating, and it doesn’t help it’s Hakuba’s mother, but she feels like Hakuba is getting some rather unfair judgement from the woman. It doesn’t help they have similar views on truth and criticism.

“Regardless of tact, or lack thereof, the reasons in which he says things people may not like are his own. And if he feels those reasons are correct I don’t see why it is up to some one else to judge him for those reasons, unless it has caused harm to someone in any such way. Your son does not seem the type to say things just to hurt some one, he is very caring and polite.”

“For the most part yes, he is. Saguru-kun is very well mannered in most situations, but there are key times when he’s lost his temper and spoken out of turn… though, usually, it’s just his getting his foot stuck in his mouth that is the most trouble."

Marion sighed, regarding the young woman with a tilt of her head. "Please don’t misunderstand me, Kudo-chan; you’re a lovely girl and I do appreciate that you’re standing up for my son. I can definitely see why he’s so fond of you and your spirit, but he could do well to remember to keep his temper in check. That’s all. Particularly when it escalates into a full-on rant to those undeserving of his silver tongue."

japansfamousdetective:

“Mm, I guess that is something to take into consideration. But, again with respect, sometimes the best way to deliver criticism is not to sugar coat words. It might not necessarily make friends, but the best truths are often the hardest ones to hear and you can’t make light of some of those truths. Even if one may want to."

A pause and a frown.

"It’s not entirely fair to judge a person simply on the fact that their way of telling the truth may inadvertently hurt that person’s feelings. But I assure you, even in his criticism is he polite."

"While I agree with you on principle, there are many situations in which a certain degree of tact is required. As the son of the Superintendent General of Japan and the head of the Wickham Charitable Funding Association in England, his proper conduct is incredibly important. Especially with how famous he is in his own right in both countries.

"Objective criticism should be polite, yes, but sometimes it is best to not voice the opinion at all… particularly if it’s not going to result in any positive change, anyway.”
