the thing that pisses me off so much about hakuba in magic kaito 1412 is how he says that “the truth will always come to light” instead of “why would you do such a thing” because you could learn so much about him from “why would you do such a thing” (especially since nakamori said “bad guys never have a reason!” upon hearing about his catchphrase) like: he’s interested in the psychology of the criminal, he knows actions have motives, he knows not everything is black and white, he knows “criminal” does not always equal “bad person” etc. but instead they changed it to “the truth will come to light” and made him more like shinichi like come on was that change necessary you just took away a big chunk of hakuba’s character that set him apart from the other teen geniuses everything else is just a nitpick but this particularly made me mad

my thoughts exactly

Well, his original catchphrase is still canon… so that’s still there… I’m going to assume that he has multiple catchphrases. I don’t see why he wouldn’t.

But, yeah, I know that the whole “why would you do such a thing?” is the central core to when I write Hakuba, and without that, so much falls apart. Mostly because he really does, as said, become just a Proto-Shinichi.

whiteknighthakuba replied to your post:WAIT THEY CHANGED HAKUBA’S CATCHPHRASE WTF?

What did they change it to?

Okay so they kept the *dramatic point* “The criminal is you” thing but they didn’t include “How come you did this?” instead he says “The truth will come to light or something”

Idk it sounds too similar to Conan’s catchphrase so I don’t like it, although it certainly doesn’t mean quite the same thing.

If I’m hearing it correctly, they changed it to “subete wa hakujitsu no moto ni” or “全ては白日のもとに”. “the truth is under broad daylight” or something. I guess they really wanted to stick a 白 in his catchphrase somewhere.

I’m starting to like how ridiculous it makes him sound, repeating it so often in that episode. I still prefer “why did you do this?” though. why did they change it…

anime staff… the culprit was you… why did you do this?

a more accurate translation would probably be “everything is in broad daylight”

it’s official. Hakuba is a nerd

okay but we already knew that

does this look like the face of a nerd to you

really

okay yeah
