“Oh? And which would those be? I don’t REMEMBER doing anything wrong and against the law. Would you remind me? I thought you were everybody’s bitch. Maybe I was wrong. You can cuddle and not be in a relationship! Here let me show you!” Kaito says looking like he was about to pounce on the detective.

“You know very WELL which crimes I mean, Kuroba-san! I KNOW that you’re Kaitou Kid and your continued denial is both infuriating and insulting!” The detective clenched his fists at his sides, trying to control his temper with seething breaths. This, Hakuba managed, but not without a scowl.

“…And if you dare touch me… especially while you insist on calling me such a degrading term, so help me Kuroba-san…"

Karin’s dull mood, brought about by being stuck in this place and also expected to eat gelatin from a box, was blown away by what she seriously considered to be a sight for sore eyes. Her own smile lit up her pale, uncolored face and a sudden fire went back into her brown eyes free of any contact lenses. She looked over at him adoringly and reached a hand out to touch the flowers, bring them closer to her, smell them.

“Hakuba-san! How did you even know I was here? I’m so glad you came to visit me, you don’t even know. It really means a lot.”

The detective let her take the flowers – they were for her, after all, and pulled a chair over to sit at her bedside. “I went by the bakery for more of those eclairs – I have to admit that they’re dangerously addicting – and was both surprised and saddened to find that you were not there. It was  simple matter, investigatory-wise, to discover your location and…” Hakuba shrugged, finally sitting. “Here I am.”

Leaning back in his chair, Hakuba looked her over, appraising her condition. “So, are you willing to give me the details? Whose kneecaps do I need to bust?”

OKAY so my mun is going to leave me with you for the few days she’s gone but that STILL MEANS WE WON’T BE ABLE TO DO A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS I WANTED TO on your ACTUAL birthday so I made these today!!!

I wasn’t sure which one you would like better so I just made both.

“A few days with you? AND you’ve brought me strawberry cake? Oh, and is that a strawberry tart? Goodness, you’re spoiling me, Emi-kun! I’m not even sure what to do with all of this attention. Thank you, dear Emi-kun and Emi-mun. It means a great deal to me.”

“A deduction battle huh? Sounds like a plan to me.” Takagi said with a smile. Hakuba-san was a pretty cool guy, he had to admit. Though he’d probably beat the detective at deduction. Takagi was good but not as much as Hakuba.

“Well right now there aren’t many things in the way of cases, but I’ll let you know if anything comes up. I hope it was approved though. It’d be awesome to work with you.” He said.

“Well if it hasn’t been, I’m certain that the Superintendent General will get it pushed through. Not to worry. Yes, please do let me know. And, ah, in the meantime – would you like to get coffee with me? Breakroom or the cafe down the street? My treat.”

officertakagi:

“Oh! No, I didn’t mean to imply anything. I just found it kind of amusing is all. I meant no disrespect.” Takagi replied nervously. “Sorry…”

image

“Ah, not to worry at all, Takagi-keiji! So long as there’s no trouble, I can easily see how it could be so amusing. Perhaps we need to have a deduction battle some day to make it official?”

Hakuba offered a smile, worries sated by the sincere and polite reply. As expected, his trust had not been misplaced.

“Or, rather, I’d love to work on a case with you. I haven’t done nearly enough in the office as of late. I think my renewal permit to work internally has been sorted and approved, at any rate…"

“So what was this that I heard about my favorite baker being stuck in the hospital?” Hakuba stood at the doorway of the hospital room, smile fit somewhere between dashing and teasing. The expression softened some, though, as he stepped inside, pulling out a bouquet of daises from behind his back.

“How are you holding up, my dear? And what, pray tell, happened to you?”

Kaito raises an eyebrow at his words. Let him escape? Now THAT was a strange concept. He keeps him his wide grin, “I never have been one to listen to warnings, Tantei-san.” he shakes his head. “If I gave it to you now, I would just have to try again later.” he adds on, “I think disappearing is the better idea. Thank you for considering though~!”

KID reaches into his pocket, his hands moving quickly before throwing a smoke bomb onto the ground in order to hide where he was standing. His legs move quickly to disappear into the smoke.

Dammit!

Hakuba grit his teeth. If Kaitou managed to disappear, it’d be the running-chase-miss game all over again. “Oh no you don’t!” The detective, normally so proper in posture and procedure, immediately threw caution to the wind and leaped at the thief, arms around to grasp whatever he could get a hold of – if anything.

There was a reason why he didn’t normally do this sort of thing. Kaitou had a knack for escaping regardless, and ending up face first on the concrete in front of the approaching officers was certainly not high on the list of things that the young detective wanted to deal with. But there was always a chance that he could catch the thief, right?

Ekoda Mystery Locker || wilddetectivenana

Hakuba got the initial request via email:

‘Meet me after school by the gym locker room. I have a very important case for you to solve.’

They’d attempted to cover their identity by using a different ‘from’ address, but a quick change in the details section revealed the actual source. Not only did this reveal the work of an amateur, but the name of the person in question. Sawada Michiko; a girl in her first year that he almost never saw. Not because she wasn’t there, but they shared no classes and weren’t in any of the same clubs. Honestly, he was vaguely surprised that he even recognized her name in the first place.

Gym locker room, though. Did Michiko mean the girl’s or boy’s locker room? The sender name she’d used was decidedly male, but he had a difficult time believing that she would sneak into the inappropriate room for this purpose. He certainly wasn’t going to tress pass for a silly little high school case.

In the end, the young detective waited in the hallway, right in between the two doors. Little did he know that he wasn’t the only high school detective who had been given the exact same instructions…

“…”

Sazerac had been in the area for business purposes. That restlessness he sought to be rid of had come useful as it was when going about his profession; a healthy dosage of paranoia for one with a more or less undercover role, but certainly too much for a teen. The Osakan did offer a hand at the very least, or a shoulder to be leaned upon, or what-have-you. Nevertheless he wasn’t used to it, if his tautness upon contact was any indication. I should hope that, whatever it was, your intent wasn’t on following me…

Clothing was relatively semi-formal, erring more on the casual than formal, but he had nothing to hide—well, save his tools of the trade, though the only sharp glints would come from his gaze alone. The flavor of tonight’s murder weapon was that slackened noose around his neck; a gaudy set of old mauve and antique white stripes that saw nights worse than this and was ready to be tossed into the fire. The Kansai agent was relatively confident of his hiding it—he had to be, of course, such expertise called for that brazen confidence—but surely it wouldn’t escape the meticulous hawk eyes of any detective worth their gluttonous salt. “This way, then.

No sign of a strangled corpse as he did what was told and made a beeline for the way out in leisurely haste. His work was done elsewhere, perhaps some yards away in another room or another building, but either way it’d been close enough that he’d heard the the bang and tumble of something heavy falling down the stairs.

Fortunately for Janus, Hakuba was somewhat distracted by the pounding in his head. Having been disarmed in this way, and by that glorious voice – which seemed to be the only thing to take the edge off the pain – the detective wasn’t even thinking about things in terms of suspicion and detail.

At least, until Janus mentioned following him.

The half-brit, leaned awkwardly against the Osakan, paused and lifted his head to look at the other’s face, brows raising in a sort of cautious and curious quizzical expression.

“No…” Hakuba said, shaking his head with another grimace. “I wasn’t following you. Should I have been?"

He wanted to look Janus over. Pick out the details, compare notes, riddle out what he might have been doing out here. But his vision doubled and got progressively worse the longer he stood. To that effect, he shuddered and grasped his arms around the other man to prevent himself from stumbling.

"Gnn… maybe I do need a moment… just, need to clear my head. My apologies. All of them.”

osakansax:

“…If you say so.

Bladed gaze hovered back to the phone with a grimace of realization. He slipped it back into his pocket and glanced about, nerves stopping cold as his tongue refused to form that intoned syllabic language—an ambulance wouldn’t help if they couldn’t understand a lick of English. He’d have to assist the halfer to the nearest hospital and hope someone there would be able to help. “Get up. The nearest hospital is going to be a healthy walk away from this place.

The agent liked to secretly pride himself on keeping that buffoon-ish visage on his face when it was needed, but when the time came to let that cold mask slide onto his face—the one most members of this ebon wolf pack seemed to carry—he would let it without hesitation. This time around was no different, even if he’d drawn the life that was asked of him.

Ah, so it was Janus. The terse orders made that abundantly clear. Hakuba pulled the handkerchief away only to grimace, reapplying it to the bleeding wound which, really, seemed only superficial. As he moved to stand, using the wall and whatever Janus was willing to offer for support, Hakuba realized that the real pain was at the back of his head.

He looked at the stairs, remembering, vaguely, the surprise of banging his head against the overhang. He must have fallen back after that and hit his head against the step. The detective frowned. He could have broken his neck that way, and for what? Exploring the sights?  No- surely, he’d had another motive for coming here… But what was it?

"Thank you,” Hakuba offered lamely, lifting his other hand to the back of his head with a grimace. “I’m certain that I’ll be all right after a brief rest is all…”  No, that wasn’t right. He shook his head, brows furrowed. “There was something that I needed to do… No, this is ridiculous. Please, if you could lead the way, I’d appreciate it so much, Janus."
