“That’s great!” Kazuha said smiling broadly turning her head to face him her ponytail swaying lightly. She had been more than convinced that this was the perfect plan – if she’d just had Hakuba find her missing items than Heiji would never even have to know! Which is what she preferred, after all, risking her charm being taken into his possession again would only play out…strangely…

Kazuha began to listen intently to his first theory.

“I suppose yer…” Kazuha spoke softly and hesitantly – before remembering her charm… There was no way someone could have thought it was theirs!  "U-Uh… no! It can’t be…“ Kazuha  interrupted looking down a small blush on her cheeks."They’ve stolen somethin’ really precious ta me..”

She looked up to him a moment later and noticed the annoyed look on his face. “Sorry continue…” Kazuha said softly and from there she listened to his second theory.

“Oi!” Kazuha yelled her face turning a deeper red as she smacked her hands to her cheeks. “How’dya…” Kazuha turned from him and decided then to simply just answer his questions – and be truthful.

“They’re in de back of de practice area – the only ones who’ve got access are members of the Aikido club…Both male ’nd female, though our lockers ’re on separate sides…” Kazuha said still lokking down and scoffing her shoes on the ground.

Hakuba slowed his steps and came to a stop, considering the information at hand. “Are there locking mechanisms on any of the lockers? If so, are they key or combination locks? Does anyone else know your combination or have a copy of your key? I’m assuming that it has at least one master, which is still in your possession, as you were able to open it to discover that items were missing… Unless there are no locks, as is unfortunately far too often the case in Japan with its ‘honor system,’ in which case it could be any person…”

The detective rambled, then paused abruptly to look at Kazuha, frowning.

“Please note that the more information you give me… Rather, the more accurate, honest information that you give me, the better. I will be able to help you a lot more thoroughly with this matter if you can resist the urge to lie."

More frowning. Then, thoughtfully. "Are you searching for a new phone because that, too, was stolen, or is it completely unrelated to the issue at hand?"

*Eventually she made her way over via taxi. She bounded up to the estate and rang the doorbell; waiting patiently for an answer. She’s a bit anxious at the thought of what is to come, but keeps a calm composure.*

The one who opens the door is an older woman, who offers a traditional bow of respect before inclining her head curiously.

“Welcome to the Hakuba Estate… Please do come in; I’m assume you’re here to see the Young Master. Do you have an appointment?”

Why else would someone come when the Superintendent General wasn’t at home?

detectivephiliac:

Yes it is. Thank you again, Hakuba-san. I’ll start heading over there immediately; I imagine it won’t take more than an hour to get there.

“I look forward to meeting you, Kirigiri-san.”

Hakuba ended the call, then immediately sent a text with the address and associated directions. This settled, and miss Kyouko’s contact saved, Hakuba set to work to ready himself and inform the staff of the expected guest.

Once the drawing room was prepared, the detective settled in with a book to wait for her arrival.

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

At the sound of Hakuba’s voice, KID looked up, his expression going flat.  This was just his sort of luck.  And he naturally had all these questions that he had neither time no desire to answer.  In his opinion, it was rather stupid of Hakuba to expect different.

“You’ll have to excuse me, but there really isn’t time for those questions.”  He straightened up, taking a look around the rooftop and noting the direction of the wind.  He wasn’t sure if he actually could hear the men in black coming up the stairs or if he was simply being paranoid.

Stupid or not, Hakuba looked quite displeased at the thief’s retort. Straightening up himself, the detective brushed his clothing off, then set to work readjusting his tie in a huff. At least, until he thought he heard footsteps, too.

“Kaitou-san…” he said cautiously, lips tightening in to a thin, straight line. “Are there hunters on your trail at this very moment? Specifically, in this very vicinity? I should tell you that I’m not too keen in getting wrapped up in your hi-jinx tonight.”

Not that the detective had much of a choice – neither of them did – but still.

That sounds like a perfect set up, thank you. And… yes, perhaps I will join you for tea. I wouldn’t mind that at all, Hakuba-san.

“Wonderful. This number that you’re calling from – is it a text-capable mobile? If so, I shall send my address there, and be prepared to meet you whenever you should like to arrive.”

Hakuba, meanwhile, picked out his navy blue suit and a complimenting shirt, then started through his tie collection… which was massive.

Well, I am the one interrupting you so I feel it should be on your terms. I would prefer to meet as soon as possible and perhaps in a location that is more on the private side. I’m still trying to find out exactly what direction this case is going, so I feel where there is a lesser chance of eavesdropping is better.

“Not to worry. Would you be willing to come to my estate? I have a drawing room that we could use with complete privacy."

Hakuba pushed back from his desk and strode to the walk-in closet of his room, stepping inside to begin digging through his suit jackets. Presently, he was dressed in casual clothes… Collared shirt without a tie, sweater vest, and slacks. He would need to change if he were to meet a client/colleague.

"Perhaps, if you’re so inclined, you would be good enough to join me for afternoon tea?"

“So what brings you this way? I didn’t ever imagine to run into outside of a police station or crime scene.”

“Ah, I had some work in the area and discovered a cafe that I quite liked nearby…”

No, no, that was stupid. Say something intelligent. But how? It was Kudou Shinichi. Kudou Shinichi.

“I was actually on my way there right now, after having visited my father’s office. If you’re not busy, and are so inclined, you’re more than welcome to accompany me… I’ve been hoping to exchange information with you for quite some time."

“Well le’s see…" Kazuha thought for a moment before pulling out a small notepad from her back pocket and opening it to a pre scribbled on page.

"De first thin’ that went missin’ was just sum haur bands – de next thing was sum make up – d’en my haur straightner and…" Kazuha looked up from the small note pad and blushed lightly. "That’s all!" Kazuha lied and quickly hid the note pad behind her back. "I suppose I’m jus’ bein’ dumb" Kazuha laughed nervously.

Along with a few pairs of Kazuha’s delicate’s something of greater importance had been stolen. Her charm! Of course – it was now to late to tell Hakuba to forget it though she hadn’t really wanted to – she would just rather not explain what had been stolen. However, she supposed him helping her find the charm would not be as embarrassing as Heiji! Especially considering she’d replaced the scribbled picture with a fresh new one.

Kazuha looked over to the blonde detective as his last statement particularly caught her attention. "Ya will?" Kazuha questioned her eyes softening before a large smile plastered on her face and her cheeks painted a pale pink.

"If you’d like me to,” Hakuba said, taking more of a neutral stance on his previous answer. After listening to the girl rattle off her list of items, the half-Brit detective was less than convinced of the brilliance in his devious plan to make Hattori jealous and upset. Her grasp of the language proper seemed even less apt than Hattori’s, which he would have previously sworn hard to believe. And yet, here they were.

With some difficulty, Hakuba wrote the missing items down, then pushed a weary smile.

“Thus far, it sounds like the items missing are likely due to one of two culprits… The first would be a female who, perhaps, has mistaken the items as her own. They are all practical applications for a girl of your age, and could exist in anyone’s locker.

"The second, which would fit with the premise of your being watched, would be that you have a stalker… Of either gender, potentially, though it may be too early to tell. Certainly, if something such as your undergarments had been taken, it would more strongly suggest a male, but then… Where are the lockers for your personal items at this practice space? Who has access?”

My name is Kirigiri Kyouko… I’m a detective. I was wondering if we could meet up to discuss a certain case I’m investigating. My apologies, I’d… prefer to not go in detail over the phone, if that’s possible. But it’s one I was told you perhaps had an appearance in.

“Certainly. I completely understand.”

The detective shouldered the phone and used his newly freed hand retrieve his pocket watch, inspecting the time, then compared it to the watch on his wrist.

“I have time in as little as a half hour from now. When and where would you like to meet, Kirigiri-san?"

detectivephiliac:

(I feel I have almost all the pieces… But there’s still a decent chunk missing from Hattori-kun’s case… I suppose I don’t really have a choice at this point… Besides, meeting another detective might be…)

*She dials the recently obtained number on her cellphone and waits for the other person to pick up.*

Hello? Is this Hakuba Saguru-san?

“Moushi moshi- ah, yes, this is Hakuba. May I ask who’s calling?”

It was a good time to take the call. Hakuba sat in his bedroom, desk full of papers, reading lamp and glasses perched precariously. He’d just set to work, but the interruption was welcome. At least, so long as it wasn’t dreadful news.

But even then, dreadful news was often interesting.
