The Neighborhood Watch

Some would’ve thought that letting someone she’s just met unusual, but something about the detective made her trust him. Besides, she wanted to figure out why he looked so familiar.

“Oh it’s alright, Hakase is probably in his lab” after yelling at him and taking away his food, he’d probably want to stay out of her sight for now.

“Then yes, please, I’d love some. Lead the way, Haibara-chan, if you please."

It was always nice to spend time with other halfers, as they were called, particularly when they were so similarly matched. Not that Hakuba would have called attention to this fact, but he did feel fairly comfortable with the girl. There was something familiar about her to the detective, too, though he assumed it was simply that British side of them both.

“I’m pretty sure he comes home, but that’s usually early in the morning. So I’m pretty sure your luck is fine.”  A small shrug. She could feel her vision blurring slightly, ‘I forgot to wear my contacts..’ . Sighing she rubs her eyes and blinks a few times, after assuring her vision is fine she takes another look at the detective. She unknowingly raises an eyebrow seeing as the other looked strangely familiar, she just couldn’t seem to put her finger on it.

“Anyways, would you like some tea?”

“Mornings?” Hakuba asked, making a mental note, then took out a little black notebook and pen to write it down, just in case. “Early morning. I’ll have to check back, then.” The invitation was not dismissed, though, and he smiled down at the girl with a pleasant nod. “Tea would be wonderful, though, if it’s not too intrusive. Is Agasa-Hakase home, as well? I haven’t spoken to him in quite a while…"

“Ah, yes I am." Of course, no matter how much she hid her face from the media they just had to know her name.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you meet you Hakuba-san though, what brings you here?” she inquired.

Hakuba glanced back to the silent door, lips pursing in a bit of exaggerated despair. He liked children, and while Haibara had always seemed quite mature for her age, he couldn’t resist being just a little more vulnerable around her. “I was hoping to catch Kudou-kun for once… but it appears, as you said, that he’s out. It seems that he always is."

He sighed with a shrug of his shoulders and slipped his hands into the pockets of his jacket, pleasantly helpless. "Tell me, does he ever come home, or do I really just have the worst luck in the country?”
