hannah-shikari:

Startled at the sudden addition to her voice ringing through the neighbourhood, she had to pause and listen to reconfirm. Certainly, that was a clearly male someone calling the name of her dog, though that didn’t quite sound like her brother. Despite the sound of blood rushing through her ears, she could hear the sound of a barking dog. Hope fluttered in her heart and it was a split-second decision to turn back and follow the sound.

Without paying any disregard to her appearance, she jogged while following the source of the sound. Sweat trailing down her face and neck, hair mused up from all the running she did without properly tying it into place, make-up probably a bit more than smudged, feet sore and probably covered with more than just a few scratches, none of it all mattered in her mind.

Turning the corner, she couldn’t help the exclamation of her canine partner’s name the moment her eyes landed on the barking beagle.

Akio! Come here, boy!“ clapping her hands a few times did the trick, it seemed, as he tugged the make-shift leash (she couldn’t quite see that far, really) free before quickly sprinting over to her open arms. Of course, being covered by dog kisses came next, which was expected as she allowed the little pup to crawl himself all over her and plant as many kisses as he wanted on her face. She was just relieved to know that she had him back. ”You silly dog, you make me so worried about you. Don’t scare me like that again.

Pleased that his idea worked, Hakuba approached the pair with an easy smile, lifting a hand in greeting.

“Good evening! I’m guessing that this pup belongs to you, then?” The detective tilted his head, coming to a stop a few feet away. “If you don’t mind, I’d love to get my tie back.”

The tie was probably a little ragged by that point, having been dragged by the dog, but it had served its newly-appointed purpose well.

hannah-shikari:

Silently watching the strange male tie the thing around his neck onto his collar, the little pup obediently sitting down and waiting. Of course, the only thought going through his head was probably the idea of going out for a walk from the familiar gestures. He wouldn’t deny going out for a walk, walks were fun and the little pup liked fun. Or well, walks with his owner, at least. Oh well, there’s still no reason to deny a walk and the happy pup barked in what you could say was agreement, following the stranger out. You can imagine how different the atmosphere was between the dog and the owner.

That silly dog, running out at a time like this,“ somewhat grumbling, as unlady-like as it was. She was frustrated, tired, and worried. If it helped with getting rid of the excess energy from the adrenaline, it was probably already done even if she wasn’t conscious of it.

Despite how tired she felt, she pushed on. Just a few more blocks, then maybe she would go home if she still hadn’t found him. She could only hope that the little pup was uninjured.

Hakuba took the dog down the street and around the block, on the lookout for anyone who might be looking for a dog. On the way, he talked to the pup, conversing lightly about the weather, asking questions about what kind of toys he preferred, and all manner of pet-owner nonsense.

Two blocks further and the detective wondered if he was going about this all the wrong way.

"You know, Akio, I think we’re going to have to try a different tactic. Just bear with me, all right, love?"

He gripped the makeshift leash firmly in one hand, then lifted the other to his mouth to help carry the yelling he was about to do. "Aaaakio!” he called, loudly. “Aaakio! Where are you?”

Clearly, Akio was in his possession, but if there were anyone else out there looking, they might hear the familiar call and come running, right? It seemed a safe enough tactic, anyway, as long as it didn’t too badly upset the dog. Then again, beagles were known to bay quite loudly when they wanted, so if the dog wanted to help out, it’d be all the better.

hannah-shikari:

The little pup’s head raised at the somewhat familiar tongue the male was using. He wasn’t stupid, having been trained since he was small. Warily sniffing at the offered hand, the small pup decided that maybe the stranger wouldn’t hurt him. Maybe he could take a break, he had been out for a while and a bit of a petting would be nice. Jumping at the chance, he placed his front paws on the male’s knees and leaned up to lick his face in happiness as his tail wagged back and forth. It seemed as if the dog have forgotten its little ‘mission’ as well as the idea of going home just for the moment.

“Akio! Akio!” of course, it wasn’t the same for his owner. Looking over the fence to see if she might spot the little troublemaker before she would have to return home. Part of her wondered just what is it that could have made the hyperactive dog run off like that, he was usually so well-behaved at home and it worried her immensely. Deciding that thinking too much about it would only cause unnecessary worry, she quickly shoved the train of thought into the back of her mind.

Honestly, where could you go?“ tongue switching into English out of habit, finding just the tiniest bit of comfort in using the more familiar language. Now if only she could find the little troublemaker, then all her worries would disappear.

Pets were freely given to the beagle, and Hakuba couldn’t begrudge the animal for sneaking a kiss or two. That tail wag was something he’d missed from his own dogs, who were unfortunately still in London. He rubbed his hands over the shoulders and neck of the dog, with spared scratches and rubbings for the ears, and took the collar and tag in his hands. It listed the dog’s name, Akio, but nothing else. Hm.

"Well, love, it looks like you’ve got an owner, but no phone number. I can’t take you inside or Mum will come up with some kind of a scheme to get you home, so…” The detective reached to the tie around his neck and loosened it, then pulled the silk fabric from around his collar.

“I don’t think we have any spare leads, so this will have to do. Try not to bite it too awfully much, please?”  He threaded the tie around the collar and tied a secure knot. He’d have used his belt, but it was likely that it wasn’t long enough. Gripping the other end of the tie, he looped it once around his wrist, then stood up straight. It was a short lead, but about regulation size for show, and would have to do.

“Come along, Akio… let’s take a little walk and see if we can’t find your master.” Hakuba once again clicked his tongue, then headed off to leave the grounds and get out onto the neighborhood sidewalk.

hannah-shikari:

“Akio! Where are you?!” it was difficult to get her to panic, so used to being the one who needed to keep a level-mind. But when it involved her beloved canine partner, she couldn’t keep her calm as she made her way around the unfamiliar neighbourhood. She should have maybe paid a bit more attention to where she was going with how bad she was with directions, but she couldn’t concentrate as panic enveloped her heart.

Comfortable shoes be damned, she didn’t care that she was running around in an uncomfortable pair of flats or the fact that she would eventually end up with blisters and scratches by the end of the night. She had dashed off the moment she found out that the dog had ran off fifteen minutes before she came home. With her brother combing the other side of the neighbourhood, she had quickly shoved on a pair of shoes before running off with her cellphone in her pocket.

She took quick notice of how late it had gotten, almost time for dinner and she still hadn’t found the small bundle of joy. From how her cellphone hadn’t rang, it wasn’t hard to guess that her brother hadn’t found the lively dog nor had he came home since her mother would’ve called and told her to come home. Sighing to herself, maybe she would make one last round through the neighbourhood. Maybe her beloved canine partner had gotten into someone’s house by mistake, or got stuck in someone’s yard ornaments again.

“Young Master…?”

Hakuba looked up from his book in the study to see Baaya, wringing her hands together. She was a fretter by nature, which is probably why the pair of them got along so famously, and it only took him a moment before he, too, felt anxious. “What’s wrong, Baaya?”

“There’s a dog on the lawn.”

The detective blinked and pulled himself up from the lazy lounge he’d taken to a formal sit. “A dog?”

“Y-yes. And it’s digging up your mother’s flowers.”

Hakuba frowned. “Have you tried shooing it away?”

“Yes, but it seems rather determined.”

“Can you physically move it? What kind of dog is it?”

“It’s a… a hound of some sort?”

“How big?”

“Big…ish…"

"All right, all right, I’ll take care of it, Baaya." After a sigh, Hakuba marked his place in the book and got to his feet.

The woman was wonderfully good at many, many things, but when it came to strange or wild animals, she was wary. Understandably, but that meant that Saguru often had to step in. Especially as all of the other house staff were terrified of anything that scurried. Silly.

"Is it just out front?”

“Yes. Ah, be careful, young master!”

Hakuba let himself out, quick to close the door behind him to prevent any such animals from getting inside, then set to investigating. It didn’t take long, though, to find the beagle overturning the yellow tulips. He smirked. A beagle? Baaya was scared of a beagle.

The detective moved around, calmly, slowly, and crouched nearby, holding a hand out loosely in case the dog wanted to sniff his hand. “Oi, pup,” he called in English, smile fond. “You can’t be digging around in the flower bed, my mum’ll be quite cross, you know? Oi, come here, then, love. Let’s see if you’ve got any identification on you.”

He whistled and clicked his tongue, then patted his lap – something that had always been quite effective on his own animals.
