“Ah, Kaitou Kid! I have to ask you… how do you feel about handcuffs?”

“Oh~? Fancy seeing you here, Hakuba. As for your question, handcuffs are handy things to catch petty criminals, but I can assure you that I am no ordinary thief. That, I am sure you already know.”

((GUyS guys!!111 There’s another Kaitou Kid! And look! He called Hakuba a bastard. I like him already!!!)

“Know that I do… which is precisely why I felt the need to ask. I’m not exactly your average detective, either. So here’s my next question: are you ready to start running?”

“Ah, is that so? Well, Hakuba, thank you for the kind offer, but I must refuse as I see no threat in front of me. ”

“Ah… Kaitou… Kaitou-san! You…!”

“It is fine. I thought you hated me for the longest time as well. Between the bickering and the attempts to get me to confess about being KID…” He grinned impishly, though he was still close to Hakuba.

The blush was adorable, if he were being honest. Not that he’d say that to Hakuba. Though it’d make him blush more, KID didn’t want to overdo it. He’d been through quite a bit already tonight and flustering him even more would be rude and unwise.

“Maybe you should listen to your presumptions.”

That… That was not at all how Hakuba had expected Kaito to react. Startled, he turned to the thief again, eyes wide and uncharacteristically honest. Vulnerable. He didn’t dare smile because he didn’t understand. What had he meant by that?

The end result was a red-faced anxious detective, stunned to silence with confusion, concern, hope, despair, and fear written all over him at once. It was not a side that he showed to anyone, really. Not at all the calm, cold, and collected front that he usually presented.

He gulped, swallowing hard, hanging on every word, afraid that if he said anything, he’d destroy everything.

But oh, how he wanted to kiss him again.
