Yes, hello Hakuba-san – it’s a pleasure to see you again. I’ve been fine, in the sense of… there is nothing particularly terrible happening in my life.

*If the occasional night terrors about being executed, and getting stressed out over a skeleton equaled fine. Kyouko didn’t feel fine (the directional possibilities of this case didn’t help to ease her either), but there was no point in talking about it. So she would just keep to simple phrases and a calm face, and give just enough to keep the conversation and curious questions away from herself. Nothing she couldn’t handle.*

Don’t worry about any compensation. Being out and mobile is enough for me – I believe I’ve been getting a bit lazy as of late… Anyways, how about you – how have you been?

“That’s somewhat dour, isn’t it? Hm.  I’ve been well enough, myself,” Hakuba lied, thoughts ranging in a similar circle- though, sans the skeleton and all- regarding his own situation. “Just very busy. As for compensation, I’m going to insist that I pay your invoice but we can discuss that after the case if you like."

With the supplies safely stowed, Hakuba shut the trunk and moved to open the passenger side door. "If you’re ready, we can leave straight away. I’ve actually managed to make an appointment with my contact, so the sooner we leave, the better."

He then hesitated. "Ah, and, Kirigiri-san, do you know how to use a firearm?"

Good. Although he was relatively certain that he could handle the case on his own, Hakuba knew that it was always, always wiser to take someone with you. For some reason, having a plus one when dealing with drug-related cases often made the difference between being able to talk things out and having to deal with physical violence.

When Kyouko arrived, Hakuba was putting his field bag of medical supplies into the trunk of his car, which he’d pulled out to the front of his house. He waved at her, offering a pleasant smile and a nod of his head.

“Ah, Kirigiri-san! I’m so pleased that you were available and willing to come with me. I’m hoping that it won’t take too terribly long, and of course you’ll be compensated for your time and efforts. How have you been?”

It’d been a while since they last spoke regarding Hattori and his… situation, but he hoped that they could develop a professional relationship outside of that, as well. Especially as things with the Osakan could get, ah, decidedly messy.

Hakuba-san I’m suspecting some unsubtle hints to your treachery here.

I looked up to you.

or does that make you an even better detective if you can still work while intoxicated

“Let’s go with the latter. It’s a James Bond thing.”

Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Now, if we’re done here…

*She stands up; unconsciously stretching her legs as she stares ahead absently for a moment.*

Thank you for your efforts in this case, Hakuba-san. I look forward to our next meeting.

“I as well, Kirigiri-san… Thank you for taking the time to come down here to discuss the report.”

Hakuba watched her, smile faint, then stepped to the door to let her out.

“Good luck, Detective."
