[[ So I drew a sketch after the paint drawing, inspired by the drawing I was doing for WhiteKnightHakuba. I had room on the page and was thinking about what myth based creature would fit who in the DC/MK universe(s).  And whoops, Au and plot just sprung into being.

Think about it… a world where creatures like dragons travel naturally, and while they normally prefer to remain on their own, the option is there for them to pair with a human to increase their power. One day a silver dragon approached Hakuba after a case, asking him to help right a wrong done to his family by a silver nine tailed Fox who was reported to have paired with a local thief in white.
Having not of been bothered to go after the thief since he was more concerned with killers and the like, Hakuba was tipped into agreeing over the promise of a challenging case.

Why did this idea come to light?? ART.]]

Mistletoe

dark-reflections:

Sliding her coat down to her shoulders Kagami sighed, looking around the small café for an open seat.  Luckily for her there was one in the far corner; the only downside was that she could see that there was the person sitting next to it. He looked almost creepy with his hat pulled down over his face as he sipped away at his drink. Still she was hungry so she might as well take the seat and do what she could.

And there was a little something hanging above his head to help her try and get something out of him…

“Pardon me.” She said leaning down and pulling his hat out of the way to give him a peck on the cheek. “You should be expecting that considering how dangerous a seat you picked.” She added pointed up to the mistletoe he was seated under.

It was only as she pulled away that she recognised him.

“Hakuba-san, right? Nice to see you again. Mind if I sit with you?”

It was nice to see someone with such manners, and she easily returned the smile.

“I know a lot about it and hate seeing how wrong a lot of people are about them.” She said shrugging. “Things people have done, like the witch hunts or other horrible things could of been easily avoided if people knew what it really was.”

It was close enough to the truth.

“I have done quite a bit of study, but it’s really hard figuring out fact from fiction sometimes.”

“Mm, you certainly have a point, there… Most people fear what they do not understand, as the saying goes, and it holds true. I may be a little wary of ghosts, but I honestly don’t think…”  Hakuba shifted his gaze away for this, feeling a little silly with the admission that he was about to make.

“Well, I don’t think that I would do any harm to a ghost or other supernatural creature unless I knew for certain that there were no other way to deal with it. And in order for that to happen, they would have to be putting my life – or someone else’s – in legitimate and immediate danger. After all, living or dead or creature, they ought to have the same rights as any sentient being has, right…?”

The detective was blushing by this point, cheeks a rosy red while his ears had gone a delicate shade of pink.

“Those witch hunts, I mean really… the court systems were so corrupt, and I don’t think their methods were scientific at all when it came to determining if someone was a witch or not… and even then, did they have proof to suggest that being a witch was actually a bad thing? I once dated a witch. Other than using a love spell on me, breaking my heart, and then dumping me, she was a very lovely girl. I would be very upset if anyone were to try to burn her at the stake.”

“I haven’t been to Paris in ages… I think I was last there…” She quickly stopped herself with a small laugh. “A long time ago. Anyways it’s better to be paranoid then dead.”

Holding her hand out she made a small bow, smiling polity.

“I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself. My name is Kagami Rukatan. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“I agree,” Hakuba said before bowing, himself, reaching to take her hand and offer a gentle kiss to her knuckles. Straightening up afterward, he let go of her hand and flashed a smile, pleased to be on this much more comfortable topic. “I am Hakuba Saguru, detective, but I assure you, the pleasure is all mine.”

A pause followed then before he inclined his head, smile slanting into a smirk. “Dare I ask why you are so defensive over the supernatural?”

“I didn’t expect anything else. People have such a negative view of them because of what the media has done.” She sighed crossing her arms. “Although I’m a little curious by what you meant ‘usually’.”

“As someone who has explored the catacombs in Paris and London…” Hakuba said a wincing smile and a shudder that he really couldn’t help. “And I’ve… seen things, you understand. I don’t know enough to say that all spectres are particularly malicious– in fact, I rather expect that most are benign, even ambivalent, but the chance that they could be otherwise… and the fact that I don’t have the information necessary to really protect myself in that instance… makes me a little more than wary."

The detective laughed, then, sheepish. "Of course, I’m generally a bit paranoid with just about everyone and everything, anyway, so it may just be par for the course!”
