Campfire Confessions (with Hakuba and Hattori)

This was from a chat Clover (kaitomagic) and I had a while ago… Hakuba and Heiji stranded on a island. They had to learn how to work together to get the rowboat to shore, build a fire, find food, make a shelter, etc. Now, tired and lamenting their fate, they sit around the fire and have a heart-to-heart… 
(and of course commentary from us interspersed) 
 
Gab = HAKUBA
Clover = HATTORI

Clover: Hattori’s uncle his family disowned, in prison…

Clover: Hakuba’s horrible abuse, which ruined his life…
Gab: they can bond over their sad sad lives
Gab: and subsequent emotional issues
Clover nodnods ;__;
Gab: poor boys
Clover: This means this Hattori has a thing for Shinichi =x
Gab: ;__; poor poor Heiji
Gab: they can lament over how attractive Shinichi is
Clover: Hahahaha

Hattori: ….So we’re stranded on an island, sittin’ by a campfire an’ talkin’ about boys.

Hakuba SIGHS

Yes… and how unobtainable the ones we want are.
How very sad.

Hattori: Ones? More’n one for you?

Hakuba: I fall in ‘love’ every other day, it seems… but very few stick… … and those who do… one, specifically, is so far out of my league…
DEEP LONGING SIGH

Hattori raises a brow, curious

Oh? What’s he like?

Hakuba: Brilliant… absolutely brilliant. Obnoxious, too, but in a very charming way. An ego the size of an elephant with a heart to match. Suave… clever… able to outwit anything that’s thrown at him…

Another sigh, gazing into the fire, mind’s eye clearly elsewhere
So very handsome and kind…
Hattori listens, smirking a little as he goes on
Wait, but you’re /not/ talkin’ ’bout Kudo, right?

Hakuba: Hmm…? Oh. No, no… though I suppose Kudo-san does fit those qualities, too…
Not that I know Kudo-san personally, alas..

Hattori grins a bit more

Not so much the suave, but yeah.

Gab: (Shinichi: OI!)
Clover: Hahahaha XD Sorry Shinichi it’strue
Gab: LOL
Gab: (Shinichi: I’d like to direct you to the /Desperate Revival/ arc where I accidentally seduced the poor girl at the elevator to prove a point…)

Clover: MORE LIKE LUCKY GIRL

Clover: PREVAILS

Hakuba: Well… mine is certainly suave.
And oh-so-sexy…

Hattori: Why’s he outta your league? He royalty or somethin’?

brow raised- as far as social leagues went, he hated to admit it- Hakuba was pretty high

Hakuba shakes his head

I don’t mean societal tiers… in that way, I’m far above him, but… I’m just not good enough for him, Hattori-san.
As a person, I mean… and as a professional. Who I am is in direct opposition of what he stands for.

Hattori: Opposition of what he stands for? But you’re a detective- a good one. Ya stand for the law an’ order an’ doin’ the right thing as a professional. How could he be against that? …..

Pauses. Naw. Naw, that’s crazy.

Hakuba laughs
The law also represents oppression, enforcement of a single ideology, black and white with no room for mercy against justice… he has a very /free/ spirit…
Hattori: Free spirit, huh? He must really be something. Sounds like some sort of lawbreakin’ activist. How’s a guy like that capture a rule-keepin’ detective’s heart, who stands for the law?
smirking a bit

Hakuba: By… being wonderful, I suppose… charming… and I’ve had the opportunity to observe him in his normal, daily life… once you know a piece of his motivations, what seems selfish turns to self-sacrifice…

Hattori blinks, looking at Hakuba curiously. Normal, daily life? Motivations? No. The thought had crossed his mind before, but that was crazy. Hakuba wouldn’t be going for an older man. ….Would he? The Osakan tried to shove that aside and smirked again
Sounds like a complicated guy.
Clover: These things are reminding Heiji of KID, but he’s like ‘HAH NO WAY’ and waving it off x3
Gab: ahahaha WELLP
 
Hakuba: you have /no/ idea… complicated doesn’t even scratch the surface.
laughs, mostly despite himself, and sighs again
…but there’s no way it’ll work… Ah, but so you and Kudou-san, hm~?
Hattori: No way, huh? How old is he?
pauses… dark complexion tinting a little as he suddenly gets less interested and looks to the side
Uh. Well, no. Not really… at least not like that. I’m gonna sound like I’m repeatin’ you here but here’s no way it’d ever work. We’re just real good friends.
Hakuba watches him for a moment with a careful glance, then nods, stretching his legs out in front of him
At least you’ve got that going for you. Most days I can’t tell if mine is my friend or if he hates me… and, ah, he’s… within an appropriate age range… you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t wish to divulge specifics…

Hattori: Nah, I understand.
waves his hand lightly before sitting back more and looking at the campfire 
Well if he’s close ta your age an’ involved in difficult stuff, why not just be there for him? I dunno ’bout you, but if I had a lot of that complicated stuff goin’ on, it’d help ta have someone on your side who understands the law an’ can help protect him. Maybe he jus’ needs ta know he can trust ya? 
the detective shrugged gently
I don’t know the story, so I can’t say for sure. An… yeah. Kudo’s friendship means a lot ta me.

Clover: Means so much to him it’s insane <3

((currently writing for angst week start, but Hakuba has been overwhelmed with his Kaito feels since last night and won’t stop having me replay that song of ‘his’ over and over again telling me just how worried he is and how much he cares and geez Hakuba let’s focus on your own problems here and then he says no you don’t understand – maybe all of the goodbyes have thrown him off I don’t know but either way I am doing this angst week thing right now and he is just gonna have to give up his distractions and focus on himself for a while. Earlier he was talking to me all about how he was worried about Kyoya, too. And Emi. And Heiji. adfslfdkjsa HAKUBA FOCUS. JUST IGNORE EVERYONE ELSE’S STUFF FOR A MINUTE. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU. and he goes ‘play the song again’ 

The fever in my chest spreads

He just wants to protect everyone from angst week god damn Hakuba stop it okay I’m gonna write about friggin WHITE CHAPEL now kthanks))
