Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

A glance down at his own suit brought the splotches to KID’s attention, and his worry spiked though he tried to keep that hidden.  His mind immediately started racing with the bits of medical knowledge he’d gathered since he’d started this ‘hobby’, and only glanced up when Hakuba started walking off.

“Don’t go far, Tantei.  Not only do we need to stay together, but if you’re bleeding that badly, we need to do something about it."  The thief frowned, starting to carefully follow.  The costumes and such were definitely useful, and KID looked as much at them as he could as he followed the detective.  Of all the places to hide, this was probably an excellent choice as far as increasing their chances for escape unnoticed.

"Yes… I think that you’re right,” Hakuba called back, pressing onward. He reached the restroom and leaned against the door frame, only then realizing just how dizzy he felt. The come down after the adrenaline rush was catching up to him in a very forceful way.

He flipped on the light switch, which only made the room somewhat brighter. Cheap wiring and light bulbs made the room eerie. Hakuba then stripped off his suit jacket and laid it on the back of the closed toilet, grimacing at the movement and the amount of blood that had soaked through his dress shirt.

Turning on the water, Hakuba first washed his hands, a compulsion that was never quite far from him. He checked his watch, next, then leaned against the sink with the water running, hesitating…. before crumpling to the floor, unconscious.

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

KID remained silent as he worked on the lock, the door clicking open in a manner of seconds.  One day he’d have to officially thank Chikage for letting him play with locks so much as a child; it was an extremely useful skill for someone such as himself.  Still, he barely noticed Hakuba there until he was standing up and opening the door, allowing his guest to enter first.  To say the least, he hadn’t noticed the stain on his suit, and the low lighting still made it difficult to discern any dark spots on Hakuba.

“Physically, yes.  Right now.  Are you?"  The thief frowned in worry, waiting for Hakuba to enter first and closing the door behind them.  He was careful to relock it, hoping to avoid suspicion.  Carelessness always spoiled a getaway, and with an innocent in tow, he refused to take unnecessary risks.

Hakuba moved through the door, getting out of the way before looking back at Kaitou again. "I think…” he began to say, then really looked at himself. Tear in his suit in three places, two of which were wet with blood as he touched them. That was… troubling. He grimaced, touching and prodding at the wounds to feel how deep they were, though it was difficult to tell.

“I’ve been hit, I think. Ah, I hope that’s not my blood on your suit.” He gestured toward the  dark splotches on white. He turned back to the rest of the room. “I’m going to see if there are any utilities running to this place, still…"

The shop, despite being closed, was full of clothing racks and shelves. Costumes, dresses, wigs, and props a-plenty. The detective thought it was a little eerie, honestly, and strayed past the row of really creepy manikins.

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

“I was assuming."  KID heard the irritation, but ignored it.  He was only concerned with getting to relative safety at the moment.  It was always more stressful when he had to worry about someone’s life other than his own.

Soon, KID saw the bicycle shop, and smiling inwardly.  Soon they could rest.  He hurried them both to the stairs, easily getting inside the building.  He let Hakuba go for a minute and knelt down to pick the lock for the shop in order to let them both in.

The lock was easy to break for someone as skilled as KID. Hakuba watched with interest, though he tried not to let it show too much. He leaned against the railing while waiting, noticing only then the blood splatters on KID’s clothing.

"Ah… Kaitou-san… Are you all right?"

Then he looked at himself; the tear in his arm, the pain in his side, and frowned. He glanced down the steps behind them, looking for any spots of blood on the way up, though it was too dark to see.

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

A costume shop?  Perfect.  KID allowed himself a smile at the shop.  “That should do nicely.  Let’s hurry; I don’t know how much time we have before they find us.  It’s better to not find out.“

KID took Hakuba’s wrist and started in that direction, now more sure of where they were going.  Luckily as his hang-glider was abandoned, he didn’t have a cape trailing behind them to give them away.  Only the sounds of their shoes on the pavement, though that would’ve been easily muffled by any passing cars had there been any.  Still, they were out in the open, and KID didn’t like that at all.

Hakuba tried to avoid showing his irritation at being dragged through the city, but it was very, very difficult. He kept up, quickly losing steam, though his stubborn determination kept his legs moving. "Just look for the bicycle shop,” he said, huffing. “The stairs will be right next to it."

Further down the street, the edge of said repair shop was visible just around a block corner. They would have to cross an open street to get there, but it was in sight.

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

KID slowed a little bit, looking back at Hakuba.  Maybe the sooner they found a hiding place, the better.  Sadly, nothing as of yet was looking familiar at all.

“Normally, there’s not much of a need for a hiding place.  Our gun-happy friends don’t show up very often."  He wasn’t about to give away too much information just yet, but little things were alright to slip, the brunette figured.  “Ne, Tantei-san?  You mentioned something abandoned?”

“It’s not strictly abandoned,” Hakuba said, backtracking through his thoughts to remember what he had been trying to say earlier. Were they not in such a dire situation, he’d probably argue with KID about it, but since they were, he would let it go. For now. “It’s close for the season. A, ah, holiday shop… Three blocks… that way, I believe?”

The detective picked up the pace so that he could get a better look at the street sign ahead. “Yes, it’s just over that way. Costumes and ilk. On top of a bicycle repair shop."

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

As his gait smoothed out, KID loosened his grip on Hakuba’s arm.  They’d gotten to a part of the city he wasn’t familiar with, which would make the escape that much harder.  He didn’t know where they could go for safety.  Suddenly, he missed the familiar shopping centers and business areas of Ekoda.

“Surprisingly, that’s the plan.  We need to keep moving, and we need someplace the ravens won’t think to check."  He wasn’t overly fond of sharing the fact that his plan needed work with the detective, but there were two of them in this predicament just now, and KID had to admit, he could use the help.

Hakuba managed to keep up easily enough, though he was getting more and more tired the further they went. He hadn’t prepared himself to be part of a heist. If he had, he wouldn’t have been drinking earlier, and he might have taken a nap or at least tried to sleep the night before. As it was, the detective probably would have been nodding off on the top of that building by this point. Add in the adrenaline rush, terrifying glider ride, and gunfire, and he felt very tired indeed.

He huffed, and took a moment to look around as they moved, putting his mental map of the city into perspective.

"Ah- there are abandoned… Ravens?” Oh, the ones shooting at them.  He rubbed the side of his head, fingers digging through his hair. “What kind of place do you normally hide?”

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

KID looked at Hakuba, noting the panting.  He frowned slightly in concern, not sure if it was because of fear from their flight or because he was hurt.  It was too dark to tell just then.

“I’m slightly insulted, Tantei-san.  But yes, I do have a plan.  We can’t afford to linger here.  Can you at least walk?"  He hadn’t removed his hand from Hakuba’s arm yet, needing to be certain of his companion’s capabilities before they could continue their escape.

"I can walk,” Hakuba assured him, moving even with Kaitou’s grasp on his arm. He limped, but he did so quickly, and after a few steps managed to smooth out his gait. His arm and his side hurt in a burning, dripping way, but the forefront of his attention was focused on his knees. They would recover, but for the moment left him with an awkward, stiff feeling.

But at least he’d caught his breath.

“What’s the plan? Move; I’ll keep up."
