“The museum was nice…” he answered, trying to be nonchalant about it. He was supposed to be acting cool and collected but how could he not gush about how much fun he had in London? “It was almost exactly like they described it in the books. The fireplace, the furniture, Holmes’ work desk and all his notes… they put a lot of work into the details. It’s pretty astounding.”

He followed after him with a bit of a bounce in his step, waving at the waitress in greeting before taking a seat where he could see the door quite clearly.

“I wish I could have stayed longer actually. I barely got to see anything because there was a case at Wimbledon. I was too busy trying to stop a serial bomber to even think about sight seeing,” he ended bitterly, recalling the incident that had cut down his precious vacation time.

It was cute, Hakuba was quick to admit to himself, how the other detective had finally shown a little bit of liveliness. The little spark made it easy for him to be more relaxed and open with him. Finally, they were getting somewhere.

He took a seat across from Shinichi and grinned. “I’m very glad that you got to see it, though, at any rate. Every piece of that museum is a fanatic’s dream come true. Even the inaccuracies are rife with literary quandaries to ponder over.”

The half-brit sighed, contented.

“Though, it’s rather unfortunate that you didn’t get to do much else. I suppose when you’ve only so many days for holiday, everything becomes time-sensitive. When do you think you’ll return?"

lust, pride, envy

Lust: a headcanon about your character’s romantic and/or sexual life

I’ve mentioned it in passing before (so very vaguely), but Hakuba is somewhat terrified of being on the receiving end of oral. Actually, too much sexual focus/attention on him at all is likely to trigger an anxiety attack. He prefers to be giving, in control, or at least taking turns/mutually participating in the hot makeouts+. I guess that’d be an effective way to torture him, though… yikes. Sexy to sobbing mess in about 45 seconds. Attempts to please him are typically deferred and redirected.

Pride: a headcanon about something your character is a bit cocky about

Being able to travel so often has given Hakuba the idea that he’s somehow more sophisticated and cultured than his colleagues. It’s not unusual for him to flaunt his international knowledge, or boast about the more interesting, exotic cases that he’s worked on.

Envy: a headcanon about your character’s secret desires and jealousies

Hakuba is genuinely jealous that Conan is the detective thought of, first, for being close to capturing Kaitou KID. Granted, Hakuba’s not even trying very hard these days, given his personal feelings, but it still drives him crazy. After all, he was the first teen detective to show up and make the police force look like absolute fools. Then along came Kudou, who is arguably the best of the best (being the main character probably helps this some), and forced KID to raise the stakes. Even now as Conan, it’s been said that no one has given Kaitou as much of a challenge.

So as much as he admires his senpai, he’s terribly envious of him, too. Especially since Shinichi and Conan both make it look so easy. Bastards.

‘ Goodbye ‘

“Conan-kun… ah, no. You really are my missing East Wind, aren’t you? Never mind. There’s not much time. I needed… to warn you that this case… this hotel… isn’t what it seems. Get out while you still can. I respect and admire you and your work… and wish you all the best in finding your happiness. But, Conan-kun…"

There are three seconds of silence, then a sigh.

"…by the time you get this, I’ll be missing- just like the others. Please… if I could beg you one favor, one last request… pertaining to Kaitou Kid. I know that you’re the only one who can catch him. But when you do, please… protect him. Keep him safe, as a personal favor to me. He may be a thief, but he… he has his reasons. Trust me.

”Thank you… good luck… stay safe. Je t’aime, mon collègue. Au revoir.

As much as he wanted to glare at the other detective, he could not bring himself to actually be angry. He had already caught him in a lie but his skepticism would only go so far. Especially when the blond was nearly wagging his tail. Shinichi’s brain just wasn’t built for the kind of paranoia he should have been experiencing. Haibara was right to say that it would probably get him killed one day.

Hopefully that day would not be today.

“I suppose it is,” he offered almost quietly, trailing after him with stiff shoulders. “Usually the only people who get nervous around me are criminals.” It was only a small hint of his suspicion but he assumed that Hakuba would take it. Though, now he was the nervous one.

“Yes, I have been to London. Why do you ask?” What an odd question under the circumstances… Or maybe it was just odd to him because he was suddenly so jumpy.

“I’m struggling to find an easy topic for discussion, that’s all.” Hakuba laughed, wincing at his own awkwardness. Then, again, he shook his head and offered a helpless shrug. “God, it’s not like me to get so starstruck. My apologies.”

Hakuba cleared his throat with a little cough into his fist, walking further into the cafe with a glance over his shoulder at the other detective.

“On the subject of London. Did you have the chance to see the sights, or were you stuck working business? I do hope that you got the chance to visit museum Baker Street, if nothing else.”

“This has actually been in our library for as long as I can remember but… I think you’ll take better care of it. It’s the manuscript for The Boscombe Valley Mystery that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote by hand. I remember that it’s your favorite so I thought you might like it. Happy birthday.”
