[sms] Not that editorials are supposed to be knocked, of course? Hh-hmm. I’m glad that you’re at least enjoying it in some respect.

[sms] AND IF ANYTHING THAT JUST MAKES ME INCREDIBLY EXCITED

[sms] You’d better not be joking because I’m going to hold you to this most absolutely! Have you seriously been considering it! Oh Hakuba that’d be wonderful!

[Text] Of course not. Editorials are wonderful and should be respected and enjoyed by all. But – yes. I looked through that NaNoWriMo website and think, if my caseload isn’t too heavy, that I might like to participate. A novel in one month. The word count seems manageable…?

[Text] I’ll confess that I may have ideas for it already. I /may/ have started an outline. Perhaps.

A Sweet Nothing for Emi-kun

((Apparently, her reply kept getting eaten or sent private, so here it is, screencapped and glowing for posterity and your enjoyment.))

[Text] I suppose we’ll see. I’m so used to writing editorials and reports, so I’m still not entirely sure what to do with fiction. But it has been… interesting thus far. You may change your mind when you hear that I’ve been considering writing…

[Text] …a novel.

DATE-O START! || akaikujixyaku

akaikujixyaku:

“Huh? Oh come on… Well I’m afraid I’ll just have to disappoint you now, lest I disappoint you!”  What a conundrum, but an amusing one no less, and quite flattering when she thought about the effort he put into conjuring up a list of such unusual inquiries. There was certain to be one that would stun her, but until then, she was happy to surprise him. "Bright wit, hm? I’m happy that I’ve made such a favorable impression on you, considering how little personal discussion’s been carried on. You do me great credit."

It seemed that she was finally settling into the flow of this outing, despite a reminiscent nervousness simply due to it’s unfamiliarity. He was… just as charming of company as she might have imagined. Well, as she had imagined, quite honestly. It was a sort of far-off intention to ask him out for coffee sometime, had she ever been able to muster the nerve, but luckily for his meddlesome mother, she didn’t have to. She should probably send a subtle thank you gift Marion’s way, sometime, if she could figure what she’d like best. (Somehow she doubted that a dragon would do the trick as it had, seemingly, for her son).

Her thoughts, which had briefly derailed, rolled back onto the tracks as he suddenly chirped in, ready to further the quiz, and she shifted her shoulders in readiness, waiting only until he was completely finished to instantly reply.

"The Lion. Hands down, all around, cross my heart, and no doubt about it. I confess that I’ve only seen the original film a few times, and read select parts from each of the books aside from The Wonderful Wizard and the Marvelous Land, but my decision is still quite firm.”

“Mm, so I see. The Cowardly Lion, also known as the one who, despite his crippling self-doubt, continually displayed no shortage of courage and loyalty throughout the entirety of his appearances.”  Hakuba nodded to himself after he spoke, turning down another side road on the way to the museum, which was then in sight.

“Good choice. I can definitely see why you would relate to him.” The grin on the detective’s face was just as confident as ever, if not more so as he stole another glance, amusement unending. “I think that suits you just perfectly. Were I to pick one, I think I’d settle with the Tin Woodsman."

Hakuba pulled them into the parking lot and combed for a good spot as he spoke, attempting to keep the conversation spurred wit his own words until he could get his next question out. He wanted to give her information about himself, certainly, but this was about her, not him, and any questions to elaborate and clarify would detract from his plans.

"The next question is: have you ever had Dip-N-Dots ice cream, and if so, where did you first experience it?”

akaikujixyaku:

“Heh. I’m glad— My uncles always try to get me to go hunting with them when I was in America. I’d usually just sit in the back of the truck and shoot at bottles they’d set up, in the end. Don’t have the nerve for hunting. Animals are just too beautiful in my opinion, y’know?

I think that’s supposed to be lucky, a deer crossing through your campgrounds. Some sort of Finnish myth, I think.”

Man, the exultory way Hakuba’d said it was… really sweet. And it was nice to know he shared the appreciation for nature.

"Cooking, and bonfires in general, top my list on favorite things about camping. Which is probably a good thing, because I usually end up making the meals anyhow. What’d roast up this time?”

“Lucky, is it? I thought it was quite fortunate, at any rate. And, ah, I completely understand about the hunting… We never waste the things that we hunt, but it’s always such a shame to me. To bring down an animal in its prime…"

He shook his head, grateful for the change in topic.

"We, ah, just did the usual. Hot dogs, marshmallows, bacon, toast… though, I suppose we did end up roasting twinkies, as well. I don’t know why but it did seem to make them more palatable…"

akaikujixyaku:

“I’m sure I’m not the only one who noticed either. You’re more well-liked than you give  yourself credit for.”

image

“Did you have fun on your little walk with nature?”

“I did, actually. It reminded me of the times I’ve spent on hunting trips with my uncles. Wild deer walked right through our camp, too. Always a thrill to see such beautiful animals and scenery. And… ah, I will admit that I love cooking over the fire.”

akaikujixyaku:

((WELL NOW)) “…Did you /miss/ me, Eiji-kun?”

“What? Oh come now, you were only gone for like, a day.”

image

“Alright yes. A little.”

image

"Honestly, it’s fine; I appreciate knowing that my missing presence was noted. I’m glad to be back.”

akaikujixyaku:

“Aaaah, you know me, you saying it’s no trouble just seems like you’re being too sweet again. But bygones being bygones, I’m very grateful. That sounds like a plan, stan.”He had such nice clothes, it was really a great offer. “Only enough to get me by, I promise. And no more suits, lest I force you to dress me every day.”Oh now that didn’t sound half bad, really. But he wouldn’t put that on the poor lad.

“…Saying that I do go shopping, you wouldn’t. Er. Hate to come with me, would you? I don’t doubt my taste, entirely, but I must say it will be harder dressing a man properly.”

"Ah, yes, I could…I could certainly go with you. I wouldn’t mind picking up a few new pieces, myself..” This was such a bad idea.

akaikujixyaku:

“Thanks… And I’m uh. Sorry. To trouble you out of the blue like this. I seem to be good at that.”

Sh—- He watches carefully, trying to commit the motions to memory so that should the need ever arise again, it wasn’t beyond his own hands to accomplish. He should’ve just chosen not to wear a tie.

Hm… Or not…

It was the first time he didn’t have to look up to look at Hakuba’s eyes— in fact, his head was tilted down just a slight to maintain respectful contact. “Alright, I see where I went wrong. Thanks. Again.”He smiled then, finally, before running his hand down the length of the accessory. After admiring the handiwork for a second, he turned just slightly to grab the coat, shrugging it on over his (much longer arms holy moley), and shuffled it into place sighing once he was done.

“What’ya think? Does it look alright?”

Good god.

“You… ah, yes, yes, it looks quite nice. V-very refined.  ah… not… not a trouble at all. It might be wise to take another set or two of clothes for the moment, until you can… get some shopping in…"
