Hey man. I know this is a really weird question, but do you have any advice as to how to better separate muse’s emotion from mun’s? Like, my muse is a super jealous idiot, and I really hate that I too get all hot in the face and stressed out whenever my muse is. We’ve always been super connected, but it’s to the point where I get too stressed to deal with daily life. Do you know any good ways to cope with this?

fuckyeahroleplayadvice:

This isn’t a weird question at all and is something that can happen pretty often to roleplayers.

Here are a few things to do to separate yourself from your muse:

  • Take a step back. When you notice these feelings are occurring or happening, stop. Assess what is happening and calm yourself down. remind yourself that you are not upset, but your character is. Not you. This isn’t always easy when you’re in the mindset of your character when you’re writing, but you need to remind yourself they are the one’s upset, not you.
  • Take a break. If you feel that it’s stressing you out in your daily life, take a break. Maintaining your health is really important. Even if it’s just for a day or so, take some time to yourself while you sort these feelings out.
  • Write it out and catch yourself. After your break, I suggest getting some prompts. Some nice, gritty, grab-your-heart, super emotional prompts. One’s that will make your character angry, uncomfortable, upset, etc. Then write it. When you notice yourself getting angry, or upset yourself–stop! Assess your feelings and then bring yourself out of the situation. Your character is upset, not you. Remind yourself that your emotions and the way you feel about the current situation are not inclusive.

When you’re able to catch yourself before you get overly upset/stressed, eventually you’ll be able to manage it better. This takes practice and isn’t something that will happen over night, but know this isn’t a rare thing and happens a lot.

But the most important thing is to take care of yourself. If you’re stressed out due to roleplay right now, take a break.

I hope this helps!

when people apologize for being late with replies i get confused.
is there a deadline i was unaware of? am i gonna get demoted
because i’ve been missing it this whole time??

darlings:

your replies are not late, but exactly when your muse/schedule allows
i will never fault you for taking your time
i hope you’ll do me the same courtesy because i’m super slow at times
you are awesome! even when you’re slow! don’t forget that

Understanding the motivation behind a characters actions is not the same as excusing those actions.

Enjoying a characters complexity isn’t being blind to their faults.

I don’t want a perfect character, I want a character I can love, get mad at, laugh at, cry at, curse at…I want them to feel real.
