That was an odd smell. It was rich, but it wasn’t something she smelled where she was from. Even if she lost sight of him, though, she could tell where he was based on scent. It was a perk of being in wolf form.

Amaterasu followed, heading up the stones, her tail wagging all the while. She avoided jumping up them too high; humans here seemed to be afraid of her when she did that, for whatever reason. The man was balancing something on his lap and he had a cup in his hand.

Hakuba watched the wolf as she approached, tilting his head at the strange markings on her. No, he’d never seen a wolf quite like that before, if it was a wolf in fact. Ethiopian wolf, perhaps? No, the body was all wrong for that. He set the brief case aside, took another sip of too-hot coffee, then set that on top of said briefcase.

“Hello there,” he said, voice soft and gentle. She didn’t seem aggressive; tail wagging, bright eyes, alert ears, nothing really off except for those markings. Were she one of his dogs, he would be getting a ball ready to throw. But since he had no ball and she was not one of his dogs, he instead watched quietly. Beautiful animal.

“Hmm… I guess I haven’t really thought about it in awhile. I’m more likely to do things my own way though, so I’ll probably do something on my own. It’s working well enough right now as it is,” he answered after a moment. It really wasn’t something he had thought about in awhile, especially after everything he had been through – and was still going through – with the Black Organization.

But he couldn’t really tell Hakuba about it. Not only was Hakuba very curious, he also seemed to be dedicated to a fault. If he caught wind of something as illicit as an Organization with members in very high places, there was a good chance that he would want to help and wouldn’t stop until the case was solved.

“Maybe when I graduate, I’ll open up an actual business. Who knows…” he muttered, more to himself.

“Ah, of course… that makes sense.”  Hakuba had expected that, really. While it would be wonderful to have Kudou on the force, the foreign detective could in no way deny that he was probably too good to just be a police detective. There were far too many restrictions that would make it hard for Kudou to be as brilliant as he deserved. “You’ve always been somewhat of a rebel, haven’t you? I’m impressed.”

And he was. And also happy to hear that Kudou was every bit as passionate and dedicated to his craft as he’d thought.

Kaito blinked and raised his head from the armrest of the couch and glanced in the direction of the door, while grabbing for the remote and turning the TV on mute.

He had gotten back surprisingly early – at least the wind had been kind enough to him tonight – and after checking the sapphire to, once again, only be disappointed to find that it wasn’t the Pandora, he had changed out of his clothes and taken a shower, before dropping himself in front of the TV. It might be late, but it was nowhere near late enough for him to want to go to bed just yet, so he’d decided to let his brain rot, just for a little while.

Not that there were any good shows on right now anyway.

Had he done something to piss lady Luck off or what?

Stretching, Kaito pushed himself up from the couch and headed for the door, expression one of confusion and curiosity. His mom was out on another one of her trips, Jii was busy and Aoko would just storm inside instead of knocking, so who…?

Upon opening the door, he froze, blue eyes going slightly wide in surprise and all he could do was stare at the detective and—

…Was that a duffel bag?

Okay, no, this was just not cool. It was everything but cool. What was Hakuba even thinking?!

“Y’know, if you’re gonna drop by all unexpected like this, the least you could do was bring a pizza,” Kaito huffed, crossing his arms and leaning against the doorframe, a confused expression plastered on his face. “What are you even doing here?“

Perfect.

Hakuba offered a broad, sinister smirk to his friendly neighborhood Kaito, and shrugged his shoulders.

"You ruined my evening, Kuroba-san, and so I am here to ruin yours. I’ll pay for pizza if you insist, but you are going to have to host. May I please come in?”

The detective felt so much amusement in all of this, and it showed. Ah, to be the one watching the wriggling anxiety instead of feeling it for once.

“I was assuming."  KID heard the irritation, but ignored it.  He was only concerned with getting to relative safety at the moment.  It was always more stressful when he had to worry about someone’s life other than his own.

Soon, KID saw the bicycle shop, and smiling inwardly.  Soon they could rest.  He hurried them both to the stairs, easily getting inside the building.  He let Hakuba go for a minute and knelt down to pick the lock for the shop in order to let them both in.

The lock was easy to break for someone as skilled as KID. Hakuba watched with interest, though he tried not to let it show too much. He leaned against the railing while waiting, noticing only then the blood splatters on KID’s clothing.

"Ah… Kaitou-san… Are you all right?"

Then he looked at himself; the tear in his arm, the pain in his side, and frowned. He glanced down the steps behind them, looking for any spots of blood on the way up, though it was too dark to see.

Kaito headed out onto the balcony, thinking. The other stuff would have to be spaced out. He could also do some riddles, as a way of buying time without lying too badly. …But that didn’t turn out so well when dealing with Kudou being a shrimp.

New plan forming, one that involved spacing out the various other things in increments, so as to avoid having Hakuba have another breakdown or be storming off. (And him fainting up here while leaning on the rail would be incredibly bad. KID didn’t bring his hang glider to this excursion; it was a little hard to with civilian clothes, after all.)

“A penny for your thoughts?”

Hakuba flicked the lighter on, then off again, fingers moving in the practiced moment without any effort or thought at all. He glanced at Kaito, arching a brow, before looking back at the city.

“Were you aware that the penny in any modern-day country is not only nearly worthless, but actually costs a significant amount more to produce than its marked value?"

All the same, the detective offered a sort of half-hearted grin. But it faded not long after.

"I know you don’t need me to protect you. You don’t need anyone. But that doesn’t stop me from worrying about you."

“Am I being ignored…?” Akako wondered, tapping her fingers against the marble tabletop. She was currently relaxing with a glass of iced tea and a strawberry parfait on the eighth floor café of a local shopping complex. She hadn’t heard from Kaito in days, and she couldn’t remember when she had last spoken with Aoko. And who knew where Hattori was right now…

And Hakuba was completely out of the question. Sometimes she felt quite guilty for what she did to him but she would be damned if she would apologize this late in the game.

She sighed, glancing out the window in boredom. It was a nice day out and of course she could probably find something to do but she wasn’t willing to go out and find it. She was feeling rather melancholic.

As fate would have it, the person chosen to walk into the cafe at that moment was the aforementioned Hakuba. He didn’t notice Akako as he skirted his way through the tables and to the register to order. The detective’s arms were burdened with several shopping bags and he looked tired, but smiled at the girl behind the register and easily made polite and friendly small talk until the transaction was complete.

Finished, Hakuba shuffled the bags between his hands and went to wait at the other end of the counter for his espresso, finally taking a moment to gather his surroundings. He’d been so busy thinking about his need for caffeine that he’d done things out of order… and regretted it once his gaze fell upon Koizumi-san.

Shit.

The detective turned sideways, averting his gaze to watch the cashier as she made his coffee, instead. Maybe the witch hadn’t noticed him? He peeked back.

(21 and 28 were answered on the last, so we’ll do 22 and 29 instead.)

7: Have you ever had any one night stands?

“…Is this a serious question? It’d be easier to ask if I’ve had sex when it wasn’t a one night stand.” Pause. “…the answer would be yes, though. At least a couple of times…"

12: How often do you have sex?

"I believe it averages out to be 3.54 times a month. That largely depends on how often I travel and what boring high society functions I’m forced to attend."

22: Do you/would you use sex toys?

"I have, and do, when it’s called for. It’s usually unnecessary, however.”

29: Favourite body part on the same sex?

“…I can’t imagine that it would be anything other than the obvious.”

8: Sex on the bed, couch or the floor?

“All. Any. The bed is the easiest, but anything will work if you’re creative.”

21: Have you ever had a threesome? If not, would you?

“A couple of times, yes, but it’s never as fun as it sounds like it’s going to be. With one-on-one, you can really pay attention and focus on pleasing your partner."

28: Favourite body part on the opposite sex?

"Breasts. Not necessary, of course, but very nice when available.”

1: When did you lose your virginity?

“Technically speaking… when I was nine years old. Unless you mean when it was my idea… then thirteen..”

14: Do you prefer giving or receiving oral sex?

“Giving. Always.”

26: Something that will never fail to get you horny?

“…acrobatic performances."

3: Do you have any unusual kinks/fetishes?

“It’s rather unhealthy, honestly, so I don’t seek it out. But the idea of being brutalized is… appealing. Ah… otherwise, I’m rather fond of licking… particularly when caramel is involved."
