Tamaki froze when his guest picked up the teapot himself- oh god. No no no- he was serving himself! He was supposed to do that! Kyoya would have a fit if he saw the horror that was happening before him.

“ Oh-! Hakuba-ouji please! Let me do it!”

Hakuba’s hand stilled the moment the complaint was voiced. His smirk broadened, pleased, and he set the pot back in its place obediently. Good.

“Ah, my apologies, Suoh-sama… I was distracted by our conversation. I hope that I did not offend you.” The detective feigned innocence, brows knitting faintly, smile fading into a hesitant frown.

Really, he hadn’t expected to put on an act, but… Suoh did seem genuinely interested in gardening happiness, which was quite refreshing to see.

Easy.

“ I love making women happy. Seeing them swoon and blush just by a small compliment or a flip of my hair- it’s pretty silly but it makes me smile when I see them smile.” He said, nodding at his answer

“Oh; that’s not silly at all. On the contrary, such an impressive skill is to be admired.” It was something that Hakuba understood very well. He reached across the table for the tea pot, shifting back to pour himself another cup, carefully watching his host for each reaction.

“You seem a very generous person, Suoh-sama… I imagine you love deeply and passionately. Am I correct in my assumptions?”

Alright- the french did catch him a bit. He was so fluent! Admittedly a lot better than he was- then again he was able to get more practice than he did.

He cleared his throat, quickly attempting to drown out his thoughts with the tea. Tamaki wasn’t used to being flirted with back- especially from a boy. It wasn’t weird to him- just not used to the experience.

“ Suoh-sama is perfect.”

“Excellent. I’m quite pleased, Suoh-sama.” The cup, nearly emptied, returned to its saucer with a gentle, practiced movement. Hakuba then folded his hands in his lap, glancing back at his host. For being the King of a host club, it seemed that Suoh Tamaki was – somewhat insecure? Perhaps even shy, underneath all of that charm. Interesting.

Well, that wouldn’t do. The detective pursed his lips momentarily, then let another broad smirk slip onto his face. Hakuba’s plan became one with two goals: 1) build his host up into appropriate confidence levels and, 2) turn the tables to charm Suoh until he melted like butter – let him see what it was like for his guests.

Yes, this plan seemed not only enjoyable, but productive enough. An experiment in human nature. And Hakuba rather enjoyed puzzling together the inner-workings of people. It would be a fun challenge.

“Please tell me, Suoh-sama… if you don’t mind my asking, what is your favorite thing about being a host?”

“ bien français est la langue de l’amour” He said,  flashing Hakuba a smile. There we go- that’s how you reel them in. Flatter them in french.

It had been such a long time since he had spoken the language, his japanese accent really messed up some of the pronunciations.

It was a little rusty, yes, but Hakuba could appreciate the complexities of keeping each language and its nuances straight. Especially in a place such as this, where the opportunity to use such a language was not often found.

Comme je le pensais,” the detective returned in kind, tilting his head just so. It was an attempt to be coy, to tease out more of that charm from his host. His smile drawing up on one side, playfully. “Ta voix est magnifique.

Picking up his cup again, Hakuba chuckled and took a sip before looking back at Tamaki. "Just as I expected from such a refined and handsome young man. Or, actually… perhaps I should be fair and call you Suou-oiji? Or Suoh-sama?"

Tamaki perked up immediately. Did this man speak french as well? That would be a perk to this some what awkward conversation.

“ Yes-! Do you speak the language?” He asked rather excitedly.

Oui, je parle français!" Hakuba answered, pleased that the change in topic had lightened the air, at least a little. "I’ll venture a guess that you do, as well, Suoh-san?” He bit his lip,  I’d be delighted to hear it; it’s difficult to find many in this country who speak it, especially with any sort of finesse… and I imagine that, in your voice, it sounds absolutely heavenly.“

His arms folded over his chest, ” Sorry but the name doesn’t ring a bell.”

Hakuba lived such a fascinating life. Here he thought his was full of action, guess he was wrong. Hosting did have it’s perks though, being idolized and making money just by throwing around a few compliments.

It wasn’t exciting but- he did love exploiting his good looks.

“Ah, that’s all right…”  Hakuba tilted his head, smile fading somewhat as his host withdrew. “Doyle is an English author. He wrote the Sherlock Holmes series. Those are much more interesting than the actual work, so I’d recommend them if you’re curious.”

It seemed that this Suoh was a little more sensitive than he’d previously thought. The detective bit his lip, considering. “Ah, but, Suoh-san, I understand that you’re half French, correct? I, ah, visit Paris every summer…"
