Autumn Afternoons

She watched each measured step he made toward her, taking in his guarded posture with a small smile. Well aware that they were both sharing shaky ground, Akako simply allowed him to come closer without even so much as a warning. If she ever wanted to earn his trust back she needed to be willing to give up some of her own personal comforts.

Not that she really minded his company.

“Good afternoon, Hakuba-kun.” A reply to match the formal tone he had set with his own greeting. Showing her pushy nature would surely be received badly so she would need to follow his lead. He always did like to lead. In fact, he was one of very few people she had ever given that little liberty to. Akako was definitely not known to possess a passive nature but sometimes it was well worth it to pretend.

The detective came to a stop a yard or so away, gaze turned outward instead of toward Akako. Slipping his free hand into a trouser pocket, he attempted an air of casual calm, lips pursing in thought. He’d had something planned to say earlier, but it sort of… left him as he made his approach. Ah, what to say, then? She was being police, yes. Friendly, even. And, it seemed as though things from their last discussion had, in fact, stuck. It should be safe.

“A lovely day autumn day, isn’t it? I’m not certain if you wanted company or not, but… would you mind if I sat with you for a while?"

A Tale of Rifles and Silver Bullets

“I have told you a basic outline of some of the situation, but there are pieces only other people can tell you and I could fill in some details I’ve omitted. Do you have any particular questions?” Shuichi got a bit closer to Hakuba.

World-shattering was a bit strong, he thought. After all, Hakuba knew about Kudou’s diminutive condition. A crime organization would be much less bizarre than an older teenager shrinking down to a small child’s size, no?

While that was true, all of it combined painted an incredibly bizarre picture. And, truthfully, he was till reeling over the fact that he’d had afternoon tea interrupted by vampire bite. So very, very odd, that.

More quiet chuckling at his own joke followed, then a raise of his brow as he watched the little bat. So small. So soft-looking.

“Questions, questions…. ah, well. Are you at liberty to tell me who is involved in your circle of trust? I’ve mentioned that I was going to wait to ask, but now that you’ve bitten me, it seems that we’ve become closer.”

And brief pause. “You’re small enough to ride in my breast pocket, you know."

Flirt: Hey Kuroba-kun, how are your grades fairing with your nightly excursions~? You know, if you need a tutor I’d be more than happy to lend a hand. Especially if you need a better grasp on your English. I may only be a half-brit, but I’m an /excellent/ teacher… What do you say to some /very/ private, after school study sessions?

“Oh, I might just have to take you up on that offer~ My English’s been suffering quite a bit, but I’m having a lot of trouble with my French too. I think some oral exercises might be in order. Care to help me out~?”

“I’d be more than happy to, Kuroba-kun. I understand that getting your tongue to curve in just the right way to roll those rs is a little tough for beginners, but not to fret… I’m a professional, and I’m very hands-on with my instruction. That said, I suppose the next question is: your place or mine~?”

♦ If only I was a human. :(

“Ah, Marley-chan… I unfortunately do have to draw the line at interspecies relationships*, though I do appreciate the thought. However, I was somehow under the impression that you wanted to murder me…? Perhaps I was mistaken.”

*this, apparently, does not include supernatural or mythological creatures that are human /enough/, such as tengu, kitsune, oni, angels, demons, witches, Kaitous that occasionally transform into giant lions, merfolk, werewolves, etc. The detective would like to restate that he is generally very open-minded about many things, contrary to popular belief.
