“Heeyy Haakuubbaa,” Kado called, knocking on the detective’s bedroom door, having already let himself in. After a minute of unanswered silence he pushed it open with a hint of irritation. “What was it you wanted to talk abou-” He huffed when he found the detective asleep, going over to shake him awake. “Did you forget you asked me to come ov…” A yelp escaped him followed by him tripping on nothing as the detective rolled over to reveal himself naked. “Itt-ai,” Kado whined with a crimson face.

Kado wasn’t the only one to color. It took less than two heartbeats for the blond detective to wake, realize what had happened, and for the tint to race across his cheeks. “Ah- oh, K-Kado!”

Hakuba sat up quickly – a little bit too quickly – and gathered the blankets around himself with a grimace. Had he forgotten…? Why had he come? Oh, god, right, the meeting.

“Apologies… I… think I may have gone a little overboard with the scotch while I waited for our appointment…"

He swallowed hard, taking a moment to take in the surroundings. Hakuba remembered the hotel room well enough, but when had he gotten undressed? Where had the bottle of scotch gone? And why… why were the balcony doors open? Oh, god, what a headache.

"If you’ll wait, just… a moment, I can get dressed. So sorry, Kado. Thank you for coming."

Shinichi hadn’t expected to find Hakuba, of all people, in his bed and naked. He was assuming naked because he couldn’t see all of him hidden under his blanket (though he was likely wearing boxers at least). His first reaction was to blush brightly and leave the room, leaving the rather large bed to the blonde alone but he also didn’t want to leave the blonde alone. So red faced and nervous, he crawled onto his side of the bed and kept as much distance between them as he could out of decency.

It was an awkward situation to be sure; one that Hakuba would have never let happen, normally, unless certain other conditions had first been met. The blond detective stirred somewhat when he felt the bed press to allow for more weight, and he tugged at the pillow under his head in a desperate attempt to stay asleep.

It had been a long night – the storm hadn’t ceased as he’d been told, his car had stalled thanks to the attack earlier that evening, and he’d had to break into the Kudou home just to escape the torrent. His clothes hung in the bathroom over the shower curtain rod to dry, but he hadn’t managed to find any replacements in the interim. Yes, he’d found Kudou’s room, but Shinichi was far slighter than he was.

In the end, Hakuba had given into exhaustion and crawled into the bed, hoping that Shinichi would understand when they were able to talk. After all, the foreign detective wouldn’t have become the proverbial visiting Goldilocks without a very good reason. As it was, the chill of wind and rain clung to him, leaving his pale skin cool to the touch despite the blankets.

Kazuha shouldn’t have been wandering around Hakuba’s house, but she was bored, and curious to see just what was in such a large house. She opened a door, but unlike most of the others she’d come across, this one was occupied. She stood in the doorway, eyes wide as she stared at the very nude Hakuba lying in bed. She shouldn’t be looking… but she was, and she was fascinated by the sight.

It was the sound of the door that drew Hakuba’s attention first – he normally kept his bedroom door locked, but it must have slipped his mind last night. That meant that he’d likely overslept and Baaya had come looking for him. Of course, it only took approximately 3.44~ seconds for the young british detective to realize that he had been very wrong in his assumptions.

It wasn’t his governess, it was the Toyama girl, and he hadn’t overslept. Nor had he, Hakuba realized with several degrees of mortification, managed to change from the previous evening’s formal wear into something suitable for sleep, but had passed out wearing nothing at all. Which was, of course, an unfortunately little detail that Kazuha now knew as well.

For a few seconds, all that Hakuba could do was stare right back at her.

Then, without taking his gaze from her face, he reached for the down comforter piled around him and pulled it over himself, very slowly, very deliberately.

“Ah, the… the ah, guest rooms are down the hall, Toyama-chan… Did you get lost?” He was still quite tired, and it came through in his voice though his mind was quite alert and more than a little embarrassed at the sudden turn of events.

♜ :My muse’s best friend.

Historically, there’s no one closer to Hakuba than Baaya.

In the RP scene, there’s Akira, Emi, Devin, and one Akako, whom he adores.

I mean, depending on who’s writing them, he’s also quite fond of Kaitos, Kudous, and Hattoris, but above all, it’s Baaya.

Hakuba and Sonoko. I think they would be a perfect pair, TBH, though I write them as good friends, instead.

“Ah, Sonoko, you look absolutely ravishing this evening~”
“SAGURUUU! Oh my GOD it’s been forever! Are you here for the party?!”
“Of course, of course! I wouldn’t miss one of your mother’s fine soirees while I’m in town. It was very kind of her to invite me, in fact; please do remind me to thank her later on.”
“Yeah, yeah, sure, but in the MEAN TIME, come with me! I want you to see all of the INSANELY HOT guys that are going to show up! We can watch them as they come up the stairs and into the foyer from the balcony~”
“That does sound like the most ideal position, yes. If you’ll just take my arm, my dear…”
"Oh, GURU~! You’re such a gentleman!”
“Nonsense. Come along, Sonoko~”

…and then they check out all of the hot men and women together.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing, detective,” Sylwen laughed quietly, expression turning teasing and sly and he hummed against Hakuba’s neck. “I’m quite sure we’d both enjoy the chase…”

Blue eyes briefly flickered upwards, taking in the blond’s flushed appearance with an amused quirk of his brow. It surprised the thief that Hakuba still hadn’t moved to push him away – and either it was because of the alcohol or the simple fact that he didn’t want to – but he wasn’t about to let this little opportunity slip him by.

Not yet.

"And, besides, I don’t steal back gifts~”

It was actually a combination of both – the desire that Hakuba felt to stay was far less than his ability to process common sense, which was, in truth, largely the fault of the alcohol. The detective blinked slowly, head tilting back to expose more of his neck for the cat, then closed his eyes with a soft hum of his own.

“If you insist,” came his reply, lazy, but not quite contented. There was something missing, though Hakuba couldn’t quite place it.

He stretched his arms in front of him, feet settling back on the floor to let the chair back down. “Though I can’t imagine what you would give to me besides a headache… or the runaround… perhaps a noose around my neck~?"

At that moment, anything sounded good, really.

”What are you doing here?” The older detective would have, no doubt, preferred a proper greeting, but Conan was too curious for his own good.

“Ah, Conan-kun! It’s a pleasure to see you this afternoon. I’m actually looking for something…”  The foreign detective brought a hand to his chin, eyes narrowing as he scanned the area. “I don’t suppose that you’ve seen a dog running around this area, have you? Large, sandy-colored golden retriever?”
