In Mermaid AU, Hakuba meets Kaito the merman while fishing on a lake. Kaito’s searching for his BFF Shinichi, who was captured by hunters, and has been travelling up rivers for dAaAAYS and he’s SO HUNGRY. He decides to play pranks on Hakuba and systematically steals his entire lunch, all of the bait, and, accidentally, the pocket watch. Kaito returns is later while Hakuba is despairing over his campfire, and then is befriended by the detective when he feeds Kaito s’mores.

It was very cute.

ooc: OH MY GOD, I BET THAT DIDN’T.

He ALMOST got away with the sacred ceremonial sword – ALMOST – but Heiji’s honor guards managed to dart the hell out of him just before he got out of the gates… and then Heiji’s freaking tigers pinned him to the ground.

The ONLY reason he didn’t die is because he and Heiji had been friends when Hakuba was a prince, so when Heiji took off the mask he was like ‘WTF I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD’ right before Hakuba passed out.

Oops. They healed him, then told him to never come back ever again. It was a sad day for Hakuba.

In the fairy tale/fantasy AU, Hakuba was the prince of a fallen kingdom and thought to be dead. He went on to travel for years and became known as The Austringer– a hunter who travelled through neighboring kingdoms, surviving off of the land in disguise. Rumors spread that he was the best marksman in the land, that there was nothing he couldn’t track, and that his hawk scouted for him and whispered all of the secrets of the kingdoms in his ear.

And he was good at hunting, yes, and surviving in the wild. But his true mission was to steal certain magical artifacts from each of the surrounding kingdoms to compose the full suit of armor that would allow him to face the evil necromancer in his homeland, defeat him, and restore peace to the kingdom.

…alas, this meant stealing from Heiji’s empire, which, uh, did not go over well at all…

In the Starwars/Order 66 AU, Hakuba was a Jedi Master with young Shinichi as his padawan. Until Anakin Skywalker was discovered, it was thought that Shinichi would be the one to bring order to the force. Alas, Shinichi was just too passionate and easily swayed toward the dark side, and SO INCREDIBLY ANGRY to no longer be the specialest snowflake. This caused Hakuba many headaches and so much shame and he, like Master Shifu in Kung Fu Panda, never quite forgave himself when they stripped Shinichi of the Force and exiled him from the temple.

Hakuba also had a ridiculously strong crush on Obi-Wan Kenobi but never once acted on it as much as he wanted to.

Oh, and his lightsaber was totally silver. How awesome is that?

In the Cowboy Bebop/Star Wars/Star Trek/Babylon 5/Battlestar Galactica/Firefly crossover AU, Hakuba was the captain of a smaller battlestar called the Unicorna and commanded a crew of twelve dozen people— mostly women. It was generally thought that the young captain (who had risen in the ranks far faster than anyone else his age) was a letch and a flirt, but as it turns out, he employed mostly women for two reasons:

  1. He was tired of the rampant sexism in the system imposed by the Embassy
  2. His particular species of anthropomorphic dog was “gifted” with the ability for either sex to reproduce, thus making them very prolific breeders. Although Hakuba was very much married to his work and had little interest in raising children, he did, however, have to deal with cycles every two months and found it easier to find empathy with female crew, who would comfort and coddle their captain. (Shinichi later discovered this and was so excited to tell Heiji that Hakuba was a “literal bitch,” causing a fight that Heiji had to break up…)

He was a very popular captain and those who served under him generally enjoyed their terms. Not only did their missions focus on relief efforts for the war-torn corners of space, but Hakuba ensured that all food served to the crew was GOOD.  He believed that good food was essential for a happy, healthy crew, and he always ate what they ate as a result. If he didn’t like it, it couldn’t be served, and he personally trained a handful of cooks who didn’t understand what that meant.

They also always had to have a lot of icecream on board, which was unusual for a warship… … … but then, Hakuba was always very good with the paperwork and manipulating the budget to accommodate for it.

In the His Dark Materials (Golden Compass) AU, Hakuba’s daemon is a female cheetah named Marie. She’s gorgeous, polite, and very shy, opting for silence in almost any situation.

Also, despite the Ministry’s work with daemon collars (this takes place long after the book series, so there are other crazy experiments afoot), Marie has a certain fondness for fancy collars, which Hakuba spoils her with often. Her favorites are the very broad kind that one might typically see on a sighthound.

In the Pokemon world, Hakuba becomes the new dragon-type master, replacing Lance. His lead team consists of a dragonite, charizard, gyarados, arcanine, audino, and a freaking shiny rayquaza.

He also owns about fifty dratini and dragonair, gets a kickass tribal-style mural tattoo of a magikarp leaping a waterfall to become a gyarados on his back, and has an eevee that evolves into a sylveon, which he is thrilled about.

…frick, that AU was cool.
