Catching Up With Fate

kuroba-k:

“Well, you won’t be full-body tackling any criminals for a while now. Even though with your height I imagine it to be rather productive here in Japan.” The corners of his mouth twiched upwards again. He was being considered tall, but Hakuba was at least another half a head taller, so he really did have some advantages. Although the side of it he imagined not to be that much fun was, that it made the detective’s ‘Hafu’ heritage a little more visible.

Although with the next topic it seemed Kaito had found the sore spot Hakuba had been avoiding a few times already. So he focused a little more, watching his patients body language a tad more attentive.

Small apartment in Tokyo, floor?, lift – planning to move into house, he noted quickly. Then he nodded when Hakuba mentioned the boy, he already talked about before.

“So he’s most likely pretty lively”, Kaito supplied during the little pause and wrote down that there was a small boy with custody in the question and trying to organise a nanny. “Sounds like a fine young man and a very reasonable thing you’ve planned there.” He looked up again with a warm smile and finally put his papers and the pen aside.

“As for us, the first thing I’d like to do is take a look at your leg and the scars. For today they’re my first priority. I want to make sure the tissue stays as functional as possible so you won’t have any long term restrictions due to the fact that the skin won’t strech. Also, I want to know how much pain may come from them. As for the rest of the time I will most likely be a little mean, because I’d like to try and slightly irritate some pain to test the waters. Which is the next thing I plan tackling with you. My feeling so far is that the aches currently bother you most, so I’d like to try and optimise your pain management with you. What do you think?”

“Oh, I used to be very good at tackling people and… yes, he’s quite the handful,” Hakuba said, pouting as he considered the next part of Kaito’s plan for him. He was used to pain, but he didn’t really enjoy it. He knew very few people that did, though, and that fact forced him to keep a tight jaw and a grim smile on his face.

Really, all things considered, he was lucky that he hadn’t completely lost his leg. Or his life. He very well could have at so many points during the confrontation and the ensuing trauma. It had been a mess. “Go ahead, Kuroba-san, do whatever you need to do and I’ll do my very best to avoid making too much noise.”

He laughed, tilting his head at him with a broader sort of smile. “Or am I supposed to be completely honest about the pain? I try not to complain nearly as often as I’d like to…”

Hattori blinked as he watched the blonde push himself up and look around. He then quickly grabbed for him, trying to help him to his feet, eyes glancing on reflex around the area, but they seemed to be alone, so why Hakuba was acting like he was; he had no idea. He rolled his eyes at the string of curses and placed a hand on his hip.

“Yere father wasn’t home, an’ I was told ta either bring this ta him or ya.” Hattori answered, glancing around again, a bad feeling making him a bit nervous. “So I was lookin’ all over town fer ya.”

He turned his attention back to the half-Brit and frowned a little. Something wasn’t right, he was sweaty, his hair sticking to him, and he seemed rather out of it. He opened his mouth to ask just what that was, when he was held onto and he slid an arm around the other teen’s waist to keep him from hitting the floor again. There definitely was something wrong with him, but he was speaking again.

Key’s?

Hattori knew how to drive a motorcycle, rather well in fact, they were easy; like bigger bikes. Cars on the other hand; he had no clue. There was no way he was letting Hakuba drive, not like this. He could attempt to drive, but that would most likely end with an accident, or Hakuba yelling at him again. No, driving was not on the menu, which mean that the keys were futile.

He really wished he had his baby here.

He looked around once more, cautious, before shoving the folders into Hakuba’s hands with a quiet “hold these” before he moved so his back was to him. It would be easier to dash this way in case someone did come, which he was starting to think they would, then if he carried him bridal style. He bent down and pushed backwards, wrapping his arms around the back of his knees and then lifted him up.

“Yere no’ drivin’ like this, an’ I can’t drive cars so we’re gunna have ta do it this way. I’ll come back fer yere car later.”

The blond detective was surprised, to say the least, when he was lifted into Hattori’s arms, world suddenly spinning out from underneath him. “Wh-what?! What the hell?!” Hakuba gasped, arms reaching instinctively for the Osakan’s neck to hold on, eyes wide and clearly too dilated to be normal.

The reason for that was likely also the reason why, two seconds later, Hakuba began to thrash to get out of his grip, and none too gently. Violently, in fact. Clawing, pushing, anything that he could do to wriggle free of Hattori’s grasp in an attempt to get back to his feet.

“LET ME GO! I NEED MY KEYS, DAMMIT! LET ME GO!”

CLOSED RP || A Surprise Guest

Opening the door a little wider, Ran gave her best smile to her present company on the the other side. She hadn’t seen the young detective in some time and it was a pleasant surprise. “So good to see you again.” She did her best to act as though her Father wasn’t in the room, only feet away at his desk, currently wrapped up in the TV and beer. A cry from his general direction made her flinch and she did what she could to speed things along, despite the fact that she was happy for the distraction. Of course, he’d requested her Father specifically so she couldn’t deny him any knowledge of his whereabouts as if the entire block hadn’t heard his boisterous ramblings. “Yes, he’s here.” She finally decided to concede to reality and acknowledge the elephant in the room.

“Case files you said?” Her eyes glanced back over toward her Father once more. “Would you like to come in or just leave them with me?” If he was going to enter, she was glad she’d at least cleaned the room prior.

She knew it had to be important or the detective wouldn’t have come all the way in person. So she decided that letting him in was probably the best course of action.

“You know that I trust you, Mouri-chan,” Hakuba said with a quirk of his smile. “But I really ought to give these to your father, if you don’t mind…”  Though, really, he would have much preferred to just deal with her than the detective. That in mind, he peeked his head in, perhaps a little bit rudely as it brought him closer to Ran than was typically conventional, brows lifting at the sight of Kogoro, and then sighed, leaning back on his heels and away.

“On second thought…” It was a gamble, but why not? “What if I did give these papers to you, and you join me for–” there was a brief pause as he considered the time “–coffee?"

The Meaning of the Monocle

smokebombsandmirrors:

He didn’t mean to and tried so hard not but he reached for him, cupped his face, and kissed him lightly. “Yes, I’m sorry, Hakuba I’m … I’m the type that needs the reassurance, the evidence, if you will, that things, that this is real.”

He stepped away from him and picked up the cork remover and wiggled it into the top. After a few turns a loud pop made him jump slightly and chuckle. He set the wine and the remover down and leaned over the bar to grab the glasses.

Another kiss… Hakuba watched him as he swept away, taking care of the wine as requested, and came to lean on the counter with both hands. It was an interesting situation that they’d found themselves in, and though he was yet unaware of repercussions this might all have, he couldn’t deny how elated he felt, and how deeply he was falling all over again.

The insecurity was a little surprising, but only a little bit. He offered a sympathetic smile, though, smirk quirking at the corner of his mouth. “I’m sorry. I think I know exactly how you feel. It all just seems so unfathomable… like I’m just waiting for you to confess that you’re just teasing me." He looked away, sheepish. "Not that you would really do that, it’s just…”

I’ve made 23 Hakumom icons and will make more tomorrow… for now, I have one hour to work on drafts. Let’s see how many I can do before I go to bed, since I promised a friend I’d actually sleep tonight…
