If you live in the United States and you’re wondering how you can help support Gosho Aoyama, here are a few things that you can do on your part:
- Learn Japanese So You Can Read Japanese Volumes: Viz Media releases 4 volumes of the series a year in English and that’s not enough for most fans of Detective Conan (Case Closed). So what I recommend is learn how to read Japanese so that you can start buying the Japanese volumes of Detective Conan so that you can still support Gosho Aoyama by buying the Japanese Releases that you can do here at the Kinokuniya Bookstore Online Shop Here: Link. If you already know how to read Japanese, you can buy Detective Conan & Magic Kaito volumes here on this website in Japanese.
- Buy The English Releases of the Series To Support Faster Translations: If you prefer to read English volumes of the series, I recommend that you buy the volumes off Amazon, Rightstuf.com, or Barnes & Noble.com. That way you can physically own the books that you can read over and over again or if you have a Nook / Kindle, check if they offer the English version of Detective Conan for your reading device. Sales need to do well in order for the message to get across to Viz Media that fans want faster translations.
- Get a Crunchyroll Subscription / Free Account: Crunchyroll is an Anime & Asian Drama streaming website that offers series that come straight out of Japan with simultaneous episode releases. Meaning you can watch the episodes of your favorite series as soon as it comes out of Japan without having to go hunt it down and possibly contract a virus on your computer. They offer both Magic Kaito 1412 and Detective Conan for people to watch. Ratings are huge on that site as well so we gotta support this decision by showing them that this series is still popular here in the states. Also you’d be supporting the anime directly if you decide to get a paying subscription to the website. Which I highly recommend if you watch a lot of anime and drama series from Asia.
- Buy The Anime DVD’s From FUNimation That Are In English: Not enough people have bought the English DVD releases of the series and that’s why FUNimation Entertainment hasn’t and probably won’t release more of it in the future. Unless we can get sales going up again in America, we won’t have more physical copies of Detective Conan (Case Closed). If you would like to support the official physical anime releases of Detective Conan, FUNimation Entertainment offers Seasons 1-5 & Movies 1-6 on DVD. If you have the money, please buy the physical releases.
- Buy The Episodes Up on iTunes: FUNimation Entertainment also offers Seasons 1-5 up on iTunes for digital download for a pretty reasonable price. So if you don’t want to buy the physical copies of the DVD’s, I hope that you’ll buy the digital downloads legally off of iTunes for your anime collection.
These are tips on how we can support Gosho Aoyama in North America and I would appreciate it if the fandom could please spread this around for other people to read and to share with others. We want to support this amazing Mangaka in any way possible and I believe we need to start doing that now in 2015.
Let 2015 be the year of the Gosho Aoyama revolution and if you didn’t know about half of this stuff that I typed out, then you’re welcome.
Let’s go support Gosho Aoyama!
