In our culture, many of us idealize love. We see it as some lofty cure-all for all of life’s problems. Our movies and our stories and our history all celebrate it as life’s ultimate goal, the final solution for all of our pain and struggle. And because we idealize love, we overestimate it. As a result, our relationships pay a price.
When we believe that “all we need is love,” then like Lennon, we’re more likely to ignore fundamental values such as respect, humility and commitment towards the people we care about. After all, if love solves everything, then why bother with all the other stuff — all of the hard stuff?
But if, like Reznor, we believe that “love is not enough,” then we understand that healthy relationships require more than pure emotion or lofty passions. We understand that there are things more important in our lives and our relationships than simply being in love. And the success of our relationships hinges on these deeper and more important values.

Morning After Texts
The assassin smirked at he saw more messages popping up on the screen. That the other continued to just casually continue sending them was intriguing, to say the least. He’d been of half a mind to change his number, but… maybe he’d put it on hold for now. This might be entertaining.
[text] It’d be harder to not be at at least familiar with Holmes, though, if you’re asking if I’ve read the stories, I’ll have to disappoint you by saying no.
[text] I also don’t consider myself to be a Moriarty. Personality-wise… perhaps… but I’m not exactly interested in getting very involved with criminals to that extent.
[text] Do you really need to follow the fictional detective so much you need his enemies as well? A Lupin isn’t enough for you?
Hakuba rolled his eyes after reading the texts, shaking his head. Of course the assassin wouldn’t understand the deep and meaningful implications of his assignment. To be James Moriarty was a compliment! And as much as he loathed Spider for his work, he could not deny that he was exceptionally talented at his work. In some ways, he admired the man just as much as he wanted to capture him.
Leaning back in his office chair, he wondered if and how he should respond. It was dangerous to be conversing with his mortal enemy. But the temptation…
[text] Make no mistake. Lupin is not a challenge for me- simply a nuisance. I’m not interested in petty thieves. You are who I’m set upon.

[text] Let’s meet up soon again for supper and tea. I’m interested to see how you’re doing. I’ll ask you more about about things for my book… and perhaps see if there’s anything that I can do for you.
