The sound of Hakuba’s voice was Kaito’s first indication that he might have trouble that night. He blinked, turning his head to look up at his classmate in surprise, automatically scooting to the side as Hakuba had anticipated- though from Kaito’s viewpoint it was more to avoid getting sat on and having to deal with a detective in his lap than to give him permission to commandeer his seat.

“H..Hakuba?” The teen half stuttered as the detective lowered himself to the bench, blinking again before his eyes narrowed suspiciously. What was he doing here?

Once comfortably seated, Hakuba took a moment to adjust his suit before turning his attention to the piano in front of them. “Don’t tell me that you’re surprised to see me here, as well. After all, with my work in the force and my father being who he is, of course I’d be invited to attend such a function.”

The half-brit detective flexed his fingers, gently slipping them onto the keys with practiced finesse. Such feather-light touches produced no sound, but Hakuba moved his fingers as if they would, turning his head to look at the other boy with a tilted smirk. It was then that he began to play; something light and classic, high notes trilling one after another in an effortless cascade.

“Am I to assume that you’re here as Nakamori-chan’s date?”

Why is this guy chasing me, again?

image

“You’re a really creepy kid, you know that.”

image

“…I get that a lot. Aha haha… hah heh… Sorry.”

image
“Ah… that’s okay. I’m just not used to people talking about that kind of stuff, so it’s sort of disturbing to hear about it, you know? I guess you don’t really realize how much of that is going on around you… or at least I don’t. I don’t think I have the constitution of a detective…”

“It’s not something we generally discuss with civilians… the nature of our work tends to be fairly disturbing. Edogawa-kun, I know that you’re very brave, but please do be careful about what you share with others. Not many have had your rather unusual upbringing… I feel that you’re far more desensitized than is really healthy for someone of your age, and while that may help with your work, does not mean that others need the same treatment…”

“How do your Detective Boys friends handle it, I wonder?”

“Yeah… so just be nice to Conan-kun and everything is great. Also, you two shouldn’t talk about death so much… it’s a very serious thing. Death happens all around us all the time. You wouldn’t believe just how many homicides happen every day here in Tokyo alone. I’ve seen just about every kind, too, in our investigations… strangling, beatings, blunt force trauma, poisoning, drowning, stabbing, gunshots, electrocution, heart attacks induced by rapid temperature change, dogs, falls, suicides, "accidents"… just to name a few…”

image

“But even then, ghosts aren’t real so regardless of how you die, you won’t becoming back, lonely or otherwise! So talking about pranks like that is pretty pointless and a waste of time, Kuroba-kun! I thought Hakuba-kun knew better than that…”

"……………”

“Ah… Edogawa-kun…. that’s a little macabre for you, isn’t it?”

Opinion on;

Character in general: Saguru James Hakuba is a side-character detective (among what, the 21048359u4ohaxdfjogij04389yh597239 others in the series) whose probably distinguishing factor is his half-heritage. Side-characters don’t normally have a very elaborate background, but that sort of vague space allows for a lot of potential character creativity and this blog has it in good spades!
How they play them: It’s a general consensus from the Detective Conan fandom: Hakuba is not a particularly likable character, and probably not at the top of everyone’s favourite character list. Even I had a particular dislike of the guy (although that is mostly the fault of fanfiction)… until I threaded with this one. Seriously, did you cast some weird cultist magic on me to get me to like this character? Truthfully, how this British detective is played hits all my preferences: the detailed background history, headcanons, and quality interactions that coincide very well with the former two. This is quality blog right here guys, quality blog!
The Mun: Gabgabbers. What a nice cat you are! Fun to talk to and plot death with and seems to have very choice advice about writing whenever I pose a question about it!

Do I:

RP with them: Yes!
Want to RP with them: ^10000

What is my;

Overall Opinion: Do I sound too biased yet Such nice, very recommend, wowowowowowzers

“…Time we have left? Why dwell on such a gloomy subject at all? I’ve been told I was gonna die before… you can see how true that turned out to be. So yeah, you’re right… playing pranks on Edogawa-kun would be much more productive.”
image

“Though I still don’t know why you’d think I’d have any good ideas on that. He’s just some supposed prodigy-brat who’s been hogging the newspapers… why would I waste my afterlife pranking him?”

image

"Oi… ‘prodigy-brat’? Who the heck are you, anyway?”

"Ahaha… Edogawa-kun! Speak of the devil. We were just… talking about people to prank if we were to be ghosts at some point… and I mentioned you as, ah, you are one of my favorite people to visit!”

“…Right, Kuroba-kun?”

“Ya know, ya were the first ta catch my attention.” Hattori raised an eyebrow. “I was only wonderin’ why ya were here.” He crossed his arms.

"Ah, it would seem that, perhaps, we’ve managed to traipse across the same territory once again. My apologies, Hattori-san; I’ll do my best to keep my investigations way from your precious okonomiyaki."
