meitanteiosaka:

I know I’ve mentioned this to you before, but I’m going to say it again for everyone.

I was a fan of the Magic Kaito manga first. I didn’t really know what Detective Conan was. I loved the evolving dynamic between Hakuba and Kaito/Kid. I love how Hakuba went from annoying rival to rival-who-may-care-a-little-bit, to rival-who-may-care-a-good-deal (Nightmare case HNNNG). I hated how the series ended abruptly, and scurried off to watch Detective Conan, since I had heard Kaitou Kid showed up in it. I wondered if Hakuba and Aoko would, too…

I squealed when Kid first appeared in the series. I’m not afraid to admit it. He’s my favorite character of all time.

And then I squealed when Hakuba appeared in the Sunset Manor case. The appearance of Watson made me go ‘it can’t be…’ And then when Hakuba was shown in his full glory…Yes. Absolutely fabulous. It had been so long since I’d seen him, and goodness was I happy that he had not been turned into a throwaway character. I was sad (incredibly so) that no mention of him was made later.

Not until the Koushien case, at least. And there I squealed again. Hakuba. I absolutely loved his dynamic with Heiji. I don’t get why people hate him. Sure, he was rude to him, and it really does make you feel sorry for Heiji. And then Hakuba gets the deduction wrong, which makes you cheer for Heiji even more, because he triumphed over this other detective.

But really. Look at Heiji’s dynamic with Conan/Shinichi. They’re best friends and rivals at the same time. They’re close, they share deductions, they work on things together. With Heiji and Hakuba? Hakuba, with all his insults, made Heiji insecure about his own abilities as a detective. They have a true rivalry, with no friendship (even though it’d be great for them to be friends). Heiji’s the competitive type. Even though he keeps saying he’s going to best Kudou, more often than not, they work together on a case. Hakuba makes Heiji strive to be better than him; to prove him wrong. The dynamic they have is very good for character development for both of them.

Let’s not mention the 10th movie. I was so upset that it wasn’t really Hakuba in that movie. YOU PROMISED HAKUBA AND YOU GAVE US KID (even though that was a fabulous disguise, so it still kinda was like Hakuba was there?).

Long story short, Hakuba is the best detective and no one should have any reason to hate him.

((I wonder what the heck is up with me, then. My first exposure to Hakuba was reading the Sunset Mansion arc while I was going through Detective Conan the first time… then I immediately looked him up on the wiki, read the Koushien arc, watched both DC episodes, then read all of Magic Kaito. Then, scoured out all of the fanart and info I could find on him. I thought he was so super cool from the very first moment I saw him. o___o what in the…???

I thought he was so handsome and weird and the arrogance just… ugh, perfect. And then devouring all of the source material for him? Ohman. Just so different from the other Gosho boys and… his dynamic and… how he got Heiji all worked up and insecure… dkfjls;gs such a good character how could I resist?!

And then I come online and I’m like ‘omg I LOVE HAKUBA’ and everyone’s like ‘He’s such a douche bag!!! UGHHH HE IS SO MEAN TO HEIJI WE HATE HIM’ and I was like woah dfkhjgkla what???? BUT HE’S… AWESOME… so much… going on… walking contradiction…! and then the MK anime came out and there was MORE STUFF FOR HIM TO DO and I just wanted to scream YESSS THANK YOU HAKUBBY HAS MORE STUFF IN HIS LIFE FANTASTIC YESSSSSS more dynamic and..

… I guess my situation was unique. I was SO SAD when I thought he’d died in Sunset Mansion. And I’m used to new characters dying in this manga all the time, but for some reason HIS death I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT CAN’T BE TRUE DON’T LET IT BE TRUE!!!

IT WAS DESTINY. NAY, KISMET,  that I somehow got attached immediately.))
