Send me “black bird” for a darker memory of my muse’s past
((Sorry for the lack of responses yesterday, everyone; it was my dad’s birthday so I went and spent the day with mom so she wouldn’t be all alone and sad (he passed away a couple of years ago). While it was awesome to see her, it left me very little time to be online… and I’m going into work in a few hours to make up time from being sick. BUT I will do my best to get a bunch of replies done tonight! Thanks so much for being patient. <333))

The envelope was made from heavy cold-press paper; textured, but factory-made. The wax seal smelled faintly of cinnamon and carried a somewhat greasy film; cheap, scented candles. The name on the front of the envelope, Shinichi Kudou, was written, in English, with a felt-tipped calligraphy pen in sienna brown.
The folded card within was stamped in jet black India ink:
Inside, a single train ticket and the following, hand-written in the same ink:
My Dearest Detective,
Your services are requested at my estate nestled deep in the mountains. A long-forgotten mystery awaits that only you can solve. Should you decide to attend, you must follow the enclosed instructions precisely as they are written.
- You may tell no one the details of this venture.
- You may only bring a single bookbag worth of personal belongings.
- You must come alone.
- You must use the enclosed travel pass with the stamped date and time; further instruction will be waiting for you at the designated stop. Failure to do so will result in your immediate disqualification.
- Your stay is all-inclusive, expenses paid (including meals, room, basic materials/supplies, etc), for four days, three nights.
- You will be compensated for your time based on your fee schedule (accounts to be settled upon arrival).
I do hope you see you there. It would be an honor to host you.
Sincerely,
The Benefactor
The ticket was marked for three days from then – Thursday, 11:35am -Tokyo Station to Takasaki Station on the JR Joetsu Shinkansen line. No further instruction was written. In fact, the only other thing about the envelope was that its postage stamp (with markings from the Gunma prefecture) had the following words carefully written along the edges: “Three can keep a secret…”
The lure had been cast. It was only the matter, then, of if the detective would take the bait…
…
When a near-identical letter addressed to Saguru J Hakuba arrived in the post elsewhere, the half-brit detective examined it thoroughly at the dinner table. He imagined the methods used were to add to the theme; to make it look aged, official. But it felt too forced. Too much thought into the outside appearance without using legitimate articles, only modern-day facsimiles. Still, the little hint at Benjamin Franklin had been a nice touch. He couldn’t help but be a bit curious…
“It’s probably just another invitation to a "fancy” dinner party, Baaya. Costumed, perhaps? Still, may as well give a look…“

Send ✚ for a HEALTH headcanon.
Hakuba is a fairly healthy individual, in large part due to his diligence for good hygiene. is a bit of a neat freak, as well may be expected. He keeps things clean and well-organized pretty much all of the time. Lots of showers, hand-washing, hand-sanitizer, ironing, etc… and the maids at the mansion do a great job of keeping things spotless. HOWEVER… contrary to popular believe, he does not mind getting dirty to get work done. If he has to traipse through mud to catch a culprit, he will. He may lament his dry cleaning bill (a cost that could have been avoided), and he doesn’t like to stay dirty, but he will not shy away just because of some elbow grease. He just may… set the suit jacket out of the way and roll up his sleeves, first.

Send ␛ for an ANGER headcanon.
While it’s not difficult to fluster Hakuba, or get him riled up by irritating him, it does take a lot to get him actually angry. Part of this is because he has gone to great lengths to disguise strong emotions under layers and layers of control. Most often, especially with enough time for mental preparation, he takes anger and buries it, then detaches from the emotions at hand. This leaves him cold and distant with a carefully neutral facade. Once he’s in a safe place and able to process these emotions, they tend to shred inward. Thus, after emotional encounters, he tends to wait until it’s permissible, then escape to quiet ground to be isolated for a while. An example of this is when his parents used to fight, screaming at each other… his recourse was to hide in the back of his closet, behind clothes, on top of shelves, etc.. and not come out for several hours until he’d had a chance to break down, process, become numb, regroup, and compose himself once more.
Send ☂ for a FOOD headcanon.
On a good day, Hakuba struggles to finish his meals. Whether this is because the staff gives portions that are too large or because he consistently undereats is unclear, though he seems to have this problem most anywhere he goes unless he packs his own food. On bad days, or during periods of high stress and anxiety, he can’t seem to eat at all. It may be that he survives mainly on tea.
