sadisticfiction:

you’ve only been rping 9 months? :O That’s amazing you’re already such a pro! ^^ I feel u about not having confidence, but I think you just have to keep pushing through? …

Oh gosh, thank you for the kind comments. <3 I should clarify, though – I’ve only been tumblrrping for the last 9 months… but I’ve been roleplaying on MUSHes/MUCKs/etc since ‘99. In fact, that’s how I met my husband! We were playing on a Pokemon MUSH a million years ago, started talking about art and playing together and… bam! He moved here to date me in person (LDRs are hard, man) and we got married 2 years later. ….7 ½ years ago. omg I AM old!

Re: The books… I need to set time aside every day to write. I know how to write and what I need to do, but I always… just avoid it. For some reason. I think my mentor had a point about my being afraid. But I could write a huge essay on that topic alone (I actually have a comic in draft form for that).

I’ve been re-reading my current novel in progress lately, though, and it’s getting me excited for it again… so that’s a plus!

Must set goals. Must actually work toward them every day.

Re: The art… I get in a funk with my art every single winter. It’s like my skills and confidence run and hibernate. If you’re curious, though, my portfolio is here: http://gabapple.com/ – truth be told, I went to university to be an animator, switched to the illustration major, and then took mostly english classes. Uh. I’ll get out of my rut eventually… just need to keep trying to get commissions done in the meantime and attempt to not complain so much.

ugh I need to update my website… the events tab is totally out of date. I only have one con to sell at lined up for 2014 so far…

and I need to fix my comic website and get back into that again. and to think I was Guest of Honor at a con last summer for my art. :I what has become of me?

regardless, thank you so much for your help (and the advice that you’re giving to me on skype dkjlgafdas you’re amazing) <333

((and then I spend the entire time in the shower composing Hakuba’s Koushien Lament about meeting Heiji… … … man IDEK WHAT I AM EVEN DOING WITH MY LIFE

here are some more verses I thought of:

I think you might be jealous
Yes, I’m rather sure that’s true
It’s really not my fault, you know,
That I’ve solved far more crimes than you~!

and then

So, maybe I’m obsessive,
with the one I couldn’t solve
But you would be the same, Hattori,
if you’d only get involved~!

and more but

I’ll keep writing verse and then put them all together and cut with a machete and then record it. And then everyone will be like “?????? wasting time ??????” only a couple of people will laugh and it will make it all worth it. thank you goodbye.))

((ps it’s a broadway-style musical obv))

sadisticfiction replied to your post “celeskid replied to your post:£ why can’t you? D: I mean if you love…”

Hmm… well maybe you can keep working on those side projects and try to get something published? I mean you said you’ve finished novels before :O Do you not think any of them are worthy?

WELL… They all need heavy revision and my energy/confidence ratio wavers greatly. I work full-time as a web developer, so I honestly don’t have a lot of free time. I… really could manage what time I do have better, though. The second novel I wrote is actually in fairly decent shape, just needs some reworking… and I have like 3 others that are at 60% of their first draft.

Ughhh yeah. I need to work on them. And get something sent out. That’s one of my goals for the year! Get something sent out to agents, see if I can get some representation.

Huu…

I’ve taken university classes, run/participated in writing groups for years, so much workshopping, conferences, editor consults, author lectures… you’d think I’d have a handle on this. Several peeps from my writing group have submitted, a couple of them have gotten published, and here I am just… shrug? I even have a published author who has more or less been my mentor for the past several years (and she’s asked me if I’m afraid of success; doesn’t know why I’m not moving forward)…

This blog has been a great way to practice, though, holy moly… I think I’ve learned a LOT in the 9 months I’ve been doing this. So much writing, trying out different styles, giving myself homework and tough challenges… and all publicly available for people to read. I’m even starting to proofread a little bit (but I’m still super lazy, let’s be honest).

I’m in a fantastic critique group right now… very small, and the two ladies I write with are so talented… ughh and they keep pestering me because I haven’t submitted in mooooonths…

I don’t even remember where I was going with this, but I’m soapboxing like Hakuba so I should stop it. HAH.

:V

tldr; I need to write… esp since I have basically lost all confidence in my ability to art.

ps I feel super old now

General Tumblr Tips & Info

aceofsilverspades:

I’ve decided to make this post after all, because I feel that it could really come in handy. This little “guide” was made from information I’ve gathered through research and personal experience, which I decided to group into one place for all to see. I apologize in advance if this turns into a long post, but I hope it’ll help you in some way or another!

Tags with dashes do not get tracked.

Most of you may already know this, or maybe not, but tags with dashes do not get tracked. The dash gets replaced by a space.

This is actually one of the reasons why I changed my URL from “the-silverbullet”. Often times, people tagged posts with “the-silverbullet”, and I never saw them, since I couldn’t track “the-silverbullet”. Try it yourself — enter in the address bar “tumblr.com/tagged/the-silverbullet”, or any other tag with a dash in it. You’ll see how the dash gets replaced by a space.

Which leads me to my next tip…

It is generally recommended to create a URL without dashes in them.

This isn’t mandatory, though it is highly recommended, especially if you track your URL (which I highly recommend). Of course, you can also track your URL either without dashes, or with spaces in place of the dashes, as long as people are aware that that’s what you track.

Only your first 5 tags in a post get tracked.

Now here is some information that you may not know about. Believe it or not, only the first 5 tags you tag a post with get tracked. This is why, if you ever need to tag someone in a post, it should always be one of the first 5 tags you make.

Say you tag a post with the following tags:

#tag #another tag #more tags #a tag #this tag #A URL

See how the URL is the 6th tag? It won’t get tracked. It must be one of the first 5 tags, or else the person you tagged won’t ever be notified.

Reblogged posts do not get tracked.

This is a big one for roleplayers. Say someone makes a thread, which you want to reply to. Most roleplayers reblog the post, add their response, and then tag the person to notify them of their response. This will not work. Why, you ask?

Reblogs do not get tracked.

On that note, if you want to reply to a thread, you should make a new post yourself, with your response, and then tag the person. Then they will be notified. Here’s my method:

Click the reblog button on the thread you want to reply to, but don’t actually reblog. Simply copy either the text, or the html, which can be found by clicking the <html> button in the upper right-hand corner.

Then, make a new text post, and paste the thread into the corresponding area (directly into the text box if you copied the text, or into the <html> section if you copied the html).

Then, everything else goes as usual. Reply to the thread, tag the other person, and then post it. It’s a simple solution to keep threads from getting lost, and it can save you some trouble.

I think that’s all for now, though I honestly thought I had more. This may be updated in the future as more information is discovered. I hope this was helpful! <3
