I’ve made the similar posts before, but I think it’s time to rewrite them, add some info and make some corrections. Today’s topic – Kuro no Soshiki (Black Organization). Not so long ago the most important chapter of latest part of the story made it from manga to anime series, so, I think it’s a right time to speak about Black Organization again. This way people, who prefers not to read the original manga can join and think about all this too. So, here we go, a long and complicated text about Black Organization, their goal, Ano Kata (That Person), related people and much more.

Be careful though. Aside of latest anime episodes, there’ll be spoilers from latest manga chapters. So, continue reading only if you don’t care about the spoilers, or already read the latest manga chapters (at least Files 859-861). You have been warned. This text was made for die-hard Meitantei CONAN fans, who knows the plot very well, want to think about it and make some guesses. I don’t want to say that my theories is better then the others, but I’ll try to make reasonable summaries from the real facts. No baseless assumptions. Here we go.

ORIGINS

One of the most interesting things about Black Organization in my opinion is their origins. From The Jet-Black Mystery Train arc (Anime Episodes 701-704, Manga Files 818-824) we learned some new things. First of all – at least regular high ranking members of Organization doesn’t know about Vermouth’s secret and she trying to protect it by not letting them catch Conan-kun and / or Haibara-san.  We don’t know about Ano Kata (That Person, mysterious leader of Black Organization) though, since it was told many times that he / she treat Vermouth as very special person. Which means that at least Ano Kata may know about Vermouth’s secret. Or she’s a very important provider of certain something for them. Let’s keep this in mind.

The next part is a little hard, because it’s completely unclear if this story related to the main plot, or not, but the most interesting person in past years is, of course, Karasuma Renya. Mysterious millionaire, who died in age 99. Take a note – his last name is «Karasuma» and «karasu» means «crow» in Japanese. Now remember one of the interviews with Aoyama Gōshō-sensei (creator of original Meitantei CONAN manga), in which he stated that Black Organization isn’t the real name, but just a term that Conan use, because of lack of info. Haibara call them the same way, but as we’ve seen in the first part of Big Adventure in the Eccentric Mansion (Anime Episode 394 / Manga File 475), she don’t tell Conan everything, because she don’t want him to be in such a big danger. Therefore, she may know Organization’s real name, but not telling. Another interesting thing that was said by Aoyama Gōshō-sensei is that Organization’s real name have something from the name of its leader. «Karasuma», «karasu», «crow»…

That’s where we should look back to Anime Episode 219 (two hours special) and Manga Files 299-302. Karasuma Renya, died in age 99. He had a «Karasu» («Crow») in his name and emblem with an evil looking crow on it. He had a black mansion (it was made of gold and painted black) and it looks like he somehow associated himself with a crows. Now look at the present time and Kuro no Soshiki (Black Organization). They wears black and every time they appears, there’s always crows around. And don’t forget the fact from the first part of Big Adventure in the Eccentric Mansion (Anime Episode 394 / Manga File 475) – e-mail of That Person sounds like a Nanatsu no Ko (Seven Children) song and text of that song «Karasu naze nakuno Karasu wa yama ni Kawaii nanatsu no Ko ga aru kara yo», which in English means «Crow, why do you squawk so? Because high on the mountain I have seven cute children.» See? Ctow again. Which means that Karasuma Renya may not died, but became younger. Or at least there’s some of his former partners, or family is still alive and continue his work whatever it was.

Looks like Karasuma Renya had a lot of contacts with famous and powerful people and when his death was announced, a lot of rich people came to auction to buy a part of his wealth. And it looks like certain someone didn’t want it to happen. Two mysterious persons came and used some drugs to make people kill each other. Conan-kun suggested that drug to be a marijuana, but since result was incredibly brutal, there may be something much more serious. To make it short – two people came on auction, used some sort of drug to make people kill each other and disappeared into the night. The question is – why?

The most obvious answer – there was certain something in Karasuma Renya’s wealth that they didn’t want the others to get. So, what is it? Easiest guess – Pandora Gem. For those of you, who didn’t read Magic Kaito manga and haven’t seen Anime Specials, Pandora Gem is mysterious gem that can grant its possessor immortality. But that’s not enough to just have Pandora. The only way to use it is to hold it under the moonlight at the time of the Volley Comet, which passes close to Earth every 10.000 years. The Gem should «cry» then and that «tears» will be the source of immortality.

Pandora Gem is a goal of some sort of secret organization in Magic Kaito, but there’s no info if they’re the same with the Black Organization, or not. The only thing we know about Organization from Magic Kaito is that one of their main members is well known by the codename Snake (biblical snake?). And that’s the biggest argument against the theory that Organization from Magic Kaito is the same people with Black Organization from Meitantei CONAN.

Now, let’s return to Karasuma Renya. If he really had a Pandora Gem in his possession, than his death may be a fake. Remember Sharon Vineyard’s death? It may be the same thing. Karasuma Renya may be still alive and be somewhere around. We can even make an even more bold assumption and suggest that two people, who killed people on auction with unknown drug was Karasuma Renya himself and… Vermouth. This two may have, or at least had a Pandora Gem in their hands and want to keep it in secret from the others. Remember Senma Furuyo-san’s story (Anime Episode 219 / Manga Files 299-302)? Her father was killed, because he tried to learn about Karasuma Renya’s secrets. Of course, all that was because he’s tried to get «Karasuma Renya’s treasure», but who knows what real treasure was. Maybe it wasn’t about gold, but about Pandora Gem. Maybe he was killed by a Black Organization by an order from Karasuma Renya or Vermouth.

All that means that Ano Kata (That Person), leader of Kuro no Sohiki (Black Organization) may be Karasuma Renya himself. It fits absolutely perfectly. Aoyama Gōshō-sensei’s statements that real name of Black Organization has something from their leader’s name, all those crows, Pandora Gem and Vermouth eternal youth. Too much for a coincidence, right? And there’s more to add, since Haibara-san stated that Black Organization working on their project for half of the century already and it was exactly the same time when Karasuma Renya «died» and horrible tragedy in his mansion took place.

Conclusion: Black Organization related to
Karasuma Renya and Karasuma Renya may be Ano Kata.

THAT PERSON

And here’s the time for the most popular topic – Ano Kata’s true personality. As I wrote in one of my previous entries, I’m pretty sure that Ano Kata’s true identity is James Black from FBI. There’s a lot of theories about Ano Kata, even a lot of crazy ones like that Ano Kata is Yoshida Ayumi, but unlike most of the crazy versions, theory about James has an incredibly solid base. I mean, it’s easy to say «Hey! I think that Ano Kata is Ran, because it’ll be a very big surprise for everyone!», but since Aoyama-sensei never make it this way and always give us the keys to solve everything by ourselves (even though sometimes it requires a very sharp eye and strong mind to get to the truth), let’s look back and find some clues about James being That Person. Here’s some for you:

• Conan pointed that James is also a name of Professor James Moriarty, main villain of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series (Anime Episode 259 / Manga File 327).

• The last name «Black» is also suspicious, because the color of Black Organization is black. If he’s actually a Karasuma Renya, then changing «crow» to «black» looks pretty much obvious.

• James said that he was born in London, on the same district where the original Baker Street (the place where Holmes lived) is located, but raised in Chicago, where Capone used to rule. Looks like a solid base for a villain. James also said about Capone with a strange face, like even though he was born near the place where great detective lived, he have something dark in his soul from Capone. Also, Ai-san mentioned Capone in The Truth Behind Valentine’s story (Anime Episodes 266-268 / Manga Chapters 311-334) like Capone’s gang looks somehow similar to Organization for her.

• Capone is best known for his illegal smuggling and bootlegging liquor. If it’s true that there’s parallel between That Person and Capone, then it makes even more sense that members of Black Organization has an alcohol names as codenames and it makes James even more suspicious, because of the reason above.

• Both Vermouth and James lived in America for a long time. Since Vermouth is very close to That Person, it makes sense this way.

• Aoyama Gōshō-sensei said that the name of That Person already appeared in manga. It wasn’t clear if he / she appeared in person, but it makes introduced characters even more suspicious.

• James was introduced soon after Karasuma Renya (Karasuma Renya – Volume 30, James – Volume 32).

• Now try to recall Clash of Red and Black: Innocence (Anime Episode 502 / Manga File 605-608). The part in which Gin ordered to Hidemi (Rena) to set up a meeting with Akai-san to kill him. It was very interesting moment, because Organization tried to prevent any possible tricks. Their main goal was not to let Hidemi (Rena) and Akai-san to make any contacts before their meeting. A few words between them in secret and they may be able to make any sort of trick. That’s why Gin ordered Hidemi to call right away. He controlled her every word and movement from that moment. And who was on another side, with Akai-san? It was James. Akai-san won that time only because it looks he predicted everything and made and agreement with Hidemi about the trick before it, when she was still in hospital. Remember when Hidemi said not to blame her if it’ll turn out against FBI and Akai-san answered that he counting exactly on that? Looks like that’s the point where the whole thing was planned (Anime Episode 501 / Manga File 605).

• It looks like Akai-san don’t tell James everything for a purpose. Even though James is his boss, when there’s something important, Akai always acts by himself. Remember Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out (Anime Episode 425 / Manga Files 499-504)? There was a big danger for a Black Organization that one of their members will be captured because of Conan-kun’s transmitter. Akai-kun made a trap all by himself, without telling James and it looks like James was afraid of it. Remember the scene in which he appeared? One of his first questions to Jodie was «Where’s Akai-kun?».

• Moreover, when Akai-san was in the Black Organization (Codename: Rye) undercover, he made it high enough to work with Gin and yet they’ve decided to check him on that meeting in which Akai-san’s cover was ruined because of Andre Camel’s mistake. If they trusted him enough to make him work with Gin, why check him? Well, in The Jet-Black Mystery Train arc it was said that Akai was suspected by Bourbon (funny suggestion: that old man there was actually a Bourbon in disguise), by at the same time it may be because James is Ano Kata (That Person).

• But why Akai-san isn’t telling everything to James? It may be because he’s also suspicious about him. Remember Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night (Anime Episode 345 / Manga File 429-434)? The part in which Calvados died. Akai Shūichi wasn’t introduced at that part well enough, but after Clash of Red and Black arc it looks almost impossible that he was able to miss a gun. If you don’t remember this part well, Akai-san broke Calvados’ legs and took all of his guns. In other words, Calvados was almost in FBI’s hands, because he was unable to flee. But the question is – where was James at that time? It was the most important operation for FBI and I can’t believe that boss wasn’t around to control it. And, yet again, how Vermouth learned about the trap? He was able to get to the place before Jodie in disguise and make FBI agents to go away. How did she learn that there was a tap by FBI in the first place? And it looks like she knew about it beforehand. Obviously, there’s an information leak in FBI. And since it was very important operation, I’m sure that only the most trusted members knew the details. Now who was able to tell Vermouth? Yet another fact against James. Also, Calvados may be killed by James, because he (Calvados) was unable to retreat. Yet again, I don’t believe that Akai-san was able to miss a gun. Jodie – yes. Akai-san – no. Since Vermouth got an e-mail from Ano Kata (That Person) right after she fled with Conan, it looks like Ano Kata himself controlled the whole battle with FBI there. I mean, think about it – if there was more Black Organization agents in docks and it was they who informed That Person about the situation, why they aren’t helped Vermouth and Calvados to fight Jodie and Akai? In other hand, if it was James himself, it makes sense, since he was unable to show his face to FBI. He could hide somewhere there and kill Calvados when it became obvious that Calvados can’t retreat and therefore in FBI’s hands.

• Same goes to the scene from Episode 425 (Manga Files 499-504) in which Hidemi (Rena / Kir) fell from her bike. James was the first one to check her like was in great need to check if she able to speak, or not.

• Later, in hospital, it looks like Kusuda Rikumichi somehow knew that FBI found out about his true identity. There was only a few agents who knows about him, and yet, he destroyed all evidences long before he was caught while taking photos in nurses station, so he was able to retreat by a car right away. And, yet again, only Akai-san (and Conan) foresaw that, like he knew that there’s an information leaking from FBI.

• Yet again, there’s a scene from Clash of Red and Black: Disturbance (Anime Episode 498 / Manga Files 600-604) in which Black Organization sent a bomb to James. Why to James, not Akai who’s much more dangerous for them? And why so obvious? To give an FBI the whole idea about the bombs? OK, but James’ next actions is very hard to explain. He knew that Akai-san is very exhausted because of lack of sleep, he knew that FBI need Akai-san in hospital, since he’s the only one who can understand Black Organization’s way of thinking, and yet James… sent Akai-san to dispose the bomb. His most important agent who can won over Organization. Exhausted. In a car. Just to dispose the bomb. Isn’t that strange?

• And later, after Akai-san’s «death» at Raiha Pass, James insisted to ride with Jodie to the police like he wanted to check Jodie’s reaction. If James is That Person, it makes sense. James was with Akai-san when Akai-san departed to Raiha Pass and he was with Jodie like he wanted to check if Akai-san’s death was true, or not.

• Moreover, afterwards there was a series of accidents with Scar Akai (Anime Episodes 563-564 / Manga Files 677-679) where Bourbon tried to check Akai-san’s friends, while disguised as Akai. First time Jodie tried to catch Scar Akai, but she was stopped… by James. And who sent her to the bank to get some money? James again. James said that it’s because the liquor shop don’t allow him to pay by his credit card, but it was Andre Camel’s birthday and it was James’ treat, why to send Jodie?!! Why not go by himself, or ask Camel? Yet another strange thing.

• Also, in Conan vs. Heiji, Deduction Battle Between the Detectives of the East and West (Anime Episode 651 / Manga File 780) it became clear that James knew about Sera’s true identity (Akai Shūichi’s sister). Since he’s Akai-san’s boss, it OK that he knows, but why he didn’t tell to Jodie and Andre? It’s not like they’re regular FBI agents, they’re the most trusted by Akai-san, why not to tell?

• Funny fact: in Deduction Showdown at the Haunted Hotel (Anime Episodes 646-647 / Manga Files 768-770), there’s a white Mercedes CLK320 (same model with James’ car). Plates was different (it was 26-22 while James’ plates is 80-23), but who knows…

• Akai-san’s disguise is top-secret and even FBI agents wasn’t told about it. Looks like Akai-san have a solid reason to trick even his own friends. Even the main trio. Jodie doesn’t looks like a villain and it’ll be strange to have her as a suspect again and Andre was a suspect once too, which means that James is the most suspicious.

• Organization using many various things like passwords based on mysteries and history. When introduced, James spoke both about Holmes and Capone, which means the main character of mystery novel and historical figure.

• Jodie’s parents was FBI members and they was killed by Vermouth. Yet another proof that there’s an information leak in FBI. Also, right after that James took Jodie to witness protection program. If he’s Ano Kata, than he can always have an eye on her this way.

• Character of James fits incredibly well. Calm person, forward thinker. In The Red Shaking Target (Anime Episode 581 / Manga File 704) Vermouth said that That Person is «Careful to the extreme, the type to ruin the plan by overthinking it». James’ personality fits incredibly well.

Conclusion: Ano Kata is James Black and he may be the same person with Karasuma Renya.

STRUCTURE

It looks like there’s very strict structure in Black Organization. For example, Vodka is some sort of communication manager (In the very first Anime Episode / Manga File he was the one to control money transaction, he was the one to make a deal with Itakura Suguru in Anme Episodes 309-311 / Manga Files 380-383, etc), same with Tequila, who died by occasion during one of Organization’s transactions (Anime Episode 54 / Manga File 114), Miyano family (Atsushi, Elena, Shiho) was a part of drug development,  Calvados, Chianti and Korn are assassins, while Gin is some sort of oversight manager, whose main goal is to control operations and deal with any possible problems.

Another interesting point is that some of the members are free to act as they want. Gin from his position was able to blow up Vermouth and Bourbon when necessary (Mystery Train arc, same goes to the Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night (Anime Episode 345 / Manga Files 429-434), in which he was ready to kill Vermouth. Bourbon was ready to go against Vermouth’s will when he learned that she want to kill Shiho-san no matter what (Mystery Train arc). And the most important – Vermouth hiding the whole thing about Conan and Ai. And even though that Vermouth may have her own reasons, it looks like the highest-ranked members of Organization may have a lot of secrets from regular members.

Conclusion: Not all members of Black Organization know all the truth.

IMMORTALITY

It’s pretty obvious that Black Organization has something with immortality and eternal youth. The question is – whose goal it is? Vermouth’s? But if so, then how she’s able to use a the whole drug development team by her own, without letting Ano Kata (That Person) know? Yet again, as it was stated many times, she’s very important to Ano Kata (That Person). Which means that Ano Kata may know. Theory that only Vermouth and Ano Kata knows Organization’s real goal sounds very good. Remember, in the very first Anime Episode / Manga File Gin used APTX 4869 without real knowledge about what it really is. He was told that it’s some sort of drug that can help killing people and he used it just like that. Why he was given with such a thing? Maybe, to test the drug on many different people. Why he wasn’t told about what it really is? Because it looks like he aren’t supposed to know. But it’s pretty obvious that a lot of Organization’s forces working on immortality. Let’s look back a little and remember some facts:

• Vermouth’s real face is Chris Vineyard. Sharon Vineyard was an act. When Akai Shūichi wounded her face in the end of Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night (Anime Episode 345 / Manga Files 429-434), it became clear that Chris’ face isn’t a mask. Vermouth also said in Mystery Train arc that it was hard to act like a woman with such an old face like Sharon’s.

• Vermouth don’t tell Black Organization’s members about side (side?) effects of APTX 4869 and trying to hide the fact that Shinichi-kun and Shiho-san became Conan-kun and Haibara-san no matter what.

• The name of original development of Elena-san and Atsushi-san was Silver Bullet. Elena-san told Shiho-san through audio tape that it should be very fascinating drug, which means that it may be some sort of anti-age drug, or something like that. Elena-san said it like Silver Bullet is something good, not evil, she said that she and her husband «putting their hopes on it». And yet, in the same Mystery Train arc Ai-san said that this drug should not be finished no matter what (may be her parents came to the same conclusion before). If Silver Bullet’s real purpose was immortality it makes sense, since immortality is incredibly dangerous thing in a wrong hands.

• Haibara-san stated Kuro no Soshiki (Black Organization) working on current project for about a half a century. Which means, they started right after the incident in Karasuma Renya’s mansion. Since Karasuma Renya «died» in age 99 and there was a lot of rich people after his wealth, maybe he had a Pandora Gem in his possession and Black Organization began to study it from that moment. To extract «tears» without Volley Comet for example. Or to make their own Pandora Gem from Karasuma Renya’s DNA if Pandora Gem aren’t in their possession anymore.

• After Miyano Atsushi and Miyano Elena died in «accident», Shiho was sent overseas to study. Basically, it looks like Organization wanted her to continue her parents’ work. Like that work was incredibly important. I mean, think about it – usually Organization just hiring a personal they need. Like it was with Itakura Suguru and the others. But this time they paid and controlled the whole Shiho-san’s education. Like they were in great need of her. And, after return to Japan as a full pledged scientist, such an important member visited… a Mermaid Festival. Remember And Then There Were No Mermaids story (Anime Episodes 222-224 / Manga Files 279-283)? Miyano Shiho’s name was in the list of previous guests. For all of you, who forgot – it’s a very common legend in Japan that mermaid’s meat can give you an immortality and in And Then There Were No Mermaids story there was an arrows with a hair of a person, who eaten a meat of mermaid (or so it was told). Looks like Shiho-san wanted to study one of those hairs. Therefore – she probably worked on immortality.

• Vermouth’s words to Itakura Suguru was «We can be both of God and the Devil since we’re trying to raise the dead against the stream of time». Haibara-san also said that person, who goes against the stream of time will be punished. This lines may start another theory though. Like Organization trying to resurrect Karasuma Renya, but this is clearly against Aoyama-sensei words that real name of Black Organization has something from their leader’s name in it.

Conclusion: Vermouth, or highest-ranked members of Organization looking for a secret of immortality.

CONNECTIONS WITH MAGIC KAITO

Some people still think about Magic Kaito as a separate story and take 1412’s appearances as some sort of crossovers. But the more you look in it, the more it looks like Magic Kaito is actually an important part of the very same story. How come? Let’s remember more facts:

• Haibara-san referred to Ano Kata’s e-mail address as «Pandora’s Box». Which may be some sort of reference to Pandora Gem.

• Magic Kaito anime was put into Meitantei CONAN anime series as specials and manga was somehow consumed by Conan too (Magic Kaito chapters publishing in Weekly Shōnen Sunday instead of Conan when they appears). If Magic Kaito is directly related to the main plot of Conan, then it makes sense. Moreover, latest chapters of Magic Kaito is directly-related to cases in Meitantei CONAN. So, it’s a nice confirmation that both is a part of the same story and it’s not like author just trying to make a special cameos of Kaito in Conan.

• Kuroba Tōichi-san started his job as a thief 18 years ago. Which is almost the same time when Miyano Atsushi and Miyano Elena worked on their Silver Bullet drug for Organization (20 years ago Elena-san and Atsushi-san visited Atsushi-san’s childhood friend with 4-5 years old Akemi-san).

• Phantom Lady (Kuroba Chikage-san) stated in Magic Kaito Chapter 30 that at his 20 Tōichi-san won Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques gran prix and was a big celebrity after that. And both Sharon Vineyard and Kudō Yukiko studied the disguise technique from famous magician (Shinichi Kudo’s New York Case, Anime Episodes 286-288 / Manga Files 350-354). We can easily assume that it was Kuroba Tōichi who taught them how about disguise (Vermouth can also change her voice easily, the same way with Kaito-kun, which means that it may be the same school). It was the same time when Sharon tried to get something from Itakura Suguru and even caused a big fight with him. Which means that Tōichi-san was able to learn something about Vermouth and her goal and therefore his job as a thief may be directly related to it.

• Both Kaito and Hakuba appeared in Anime Episode 219 / Manga Files 299-302 (Karasuma Renya’s story). Which means that his story may be connected with the very origins of Meitantei CONAN. And it looks like Aoyama-sensei starting to connect the stories more and more, since in Mystery Train arc Kaito confronted Black Organization directly while disguised as Shiho-san.

• In Kudō Shinichi’s Childhood Adventure (Anime Episodes 472-473 / Manga Files 570-573) it became clear that even though Kuroba Tōichi-san as a thief was a direct rival if Kudō Yūsaku-san, he wanted to tell him something important. Maybe even something that he was unable to say directly (because someone shadowed him?). His message is still unclear because of Shinichi’s mistake, but it may be somehow connected to Kuroba Tōichi-san’s true goal – Pandora Gem.

• One of Sera’s brothers (which one isn’t 100% clear) wrote her in Manga File 861 «Have you already met the wizard?» through the e-mail. Looks like Sera thought that question was about Conan-kun, since case they worked on that time was «Just like a magic», but she may not understand the true meaning of that question. The question may be about Kaitō Kid, since she really met him after Mystery Train arc in Files 828-830 (Blush Mermaid case). If that question was about 1412, then it looks like Kid going deeper and deeper into Meitantei CONAN main story.

Conclusion: Meitantei CONAN and Magic Kaito
is a two parts of the same big story.

DRUGS

Another interesting thought is that Vermouth doing her own research through Organization while covering it by research of some sort of drugs that can make a super soldiers from regular people. There’s a lot of confirmations for such a theory. Let’s take a look:

• The one who was interested in Itakura Suguru-san research was Vermouth.

• The famous statement from Vermouth is: «We can be both God and Devil since we are trying to raise the dead against the stream of time» (found by Conan in Itakura Suguru-san diary).

• Organization testing their drug on their own members. Less important members like Numabuchi Kiichiro, but still.

• According to Ai-san, Organization’s members have some sort of «smell».

• Numabuchi Kiichiro escaped from Organization before they was able to test a drug on him. And when later he was very close to Haibara-san she didn’t noticed him. Even though she was able to feel Amuro behind her car in Detectives’ Nocturne (Anime Episode 674 / Manga File 800). Which means that «smell» may be a drug related and only trusted high-ranking members get it with some sort of abilities.

• Akai-san can properly snipe from more than 700 yards, while even Korn and Chianti were unable to fight back (Anime Episode 425 / Manga File 504).

• Okiya Subaru-san (who’s true identity is almost certainly Akai-san) can switch that smell on and off when he want to and it’s always related with some action. Like «smell» is related to some sort of ability. And as a Rye, Akai-san was high-ranked member of Organization for some time.

Conclusion: So-called «smell» of Black Organization’s members may be related to some sort of superhuman abilities
that was caused by drugs.

OKIYA SUBARU

Since I’ve mentioned Subaru-san above and since there’s a Sera’s second brother mentioned in Manga File 859, let’s look back and remember the most important proofs that Okiya-san’s true identity is Akai Shūichi:

• Obviously, the most important proof is his eye in the end of Mystery Train arc. Which is resembles Akai-san’s eye with shape, color and mood.

• Raiha Pass, where Akai-san «died» is a reference to Reichenbach Falls from Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes story in which Holmes faked his death to deceive Professor James Moriarty’s people. It’s almost clear since Akai-san used his hand as a proof of his death and Holmes did the same in Conan Doyle’s novel. All this is also an another proof that James is Ano Kata (That Person), because in Reichenbach Falls Holmes fought with Moriarty himself and, as I’ve said in Ano Kata part, it looks like James controlled the whole event on Raiha Pass from very beginning till very end.

• During his first appearance, Subaru-san was called «Red Guy». In Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys (Anime Episode 509-510 / Manga File 622-624) a young boy Sugiura Kaito-kun gave him a codename «Red Guy» and, as all of you should know, «Akai» means «Red» in Japanese. Both Aoyama-sensei and anime staff played with this a lot. Aside of Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys, There was Clash of Red and Black (Aka to Kuro no Kurasshu) and The Red Shaking Target (Akaku Yureru Taagetto). Clash of Red and Black was a direct confrontation of Akai-san and Black Organization, while in The Red Shaking Target Organization tried to find out if Akai-san is really dead, or not.

• Conan is almost 100% know about the whole thing. And the key to solve it is Conan-kun’s cell phone. Remember how Akai-san took Conan-kun’s cell phone in front of FBI agents, because he was against the involving of Agaisa-hakase in such a dangerous thing like direct confrontation with Kuro no Soshiki (Black Organization)? I’m pretty sure that the whole thing with Agasa-hakase was made up (Conan isn’t that stupid) and the only reason for all that was to show FBI agents that there’s an Akai-san’s fingerprints on that phone. And the funniest thing that a lot of people forgot at that point – Conan have two absolutely similar cell phones. One for Conan’s calls, one for Shinichi’s calls. Therefore, one cell phone may have an Akai-kun’s fingerprints and another may have a fingerprints of another person, who was found dead in Akai-san’s Chevrolet. Since FBI are unable to check Akai-san’s fingerprints in their database, because they can’t get a body (and now they can’t even get a phone back, since MPD took it away), this trick is simple, but very smart. Since Conan checked the serial number of the phone that Jodie gave him back and wasn’t surprised that it’s different from his previous cell phone, it looks like he and Akai-san planned the whole thing from very beginning.

• Conan tried to tell Jodie-san that if he’ll insert her SIM card into his cell phone, it still will be her old cell phone with all her stuff in it, even if it’ll look different, like he wanted to tell her about the plot.

• In The Red Shaking Target (Episode 581 / Manga File 704), when Jodie ran after Scar Akai (Bourbon disguised as Akai-san), Okiya-san stopped her «by occasion» and said that their fault in all this is 50/50 because she haven’t paid an attention to what happened around her. Like he wanted to say that she suffering so much because she didn’t understand what Conan said to her and all other things.

• When Conan-kun gave Okiya Subaru-san keys from Shinichi-kun’s house he asked him «to look after the house» like he asked him to watch after Haibara instead. Conan also said that «Fan of Holmes can’t be a bad person» like he trusted Okiya-san from very beginning. Since it was the first time they meet and Haibara warned him that Okiya-san may be from Black Organization, such a trust may have only one explanation – Conan-kun knew Okiya-san very well and wasn’t surprised at all when he appeared.

• Both Okiya-san’s and Akai-san’s names have the same origin – Mobile Suit Gundam character Char Aznable. Char’s nickname was Red (Akai) Comet and Akai-san’s fake name that he used to join Black Organization was Moroboshi Dai, from Char’s real name – Casval Rem Deikun («Daikun» sounds like «Dai-kun»). Okiya-san’s name comes from the same «Casval Rem Deikun», since «Casval» sounds like «Kyasubaru» in Japanese.

• In Won’t Forgive Even One Millimeter (Anime Episodes 675-676 / Manga Files 801-803) Haibara started to think about Okiya-san as a Moroboshi Dai, her sister’s boyfriend, because of Okiya-san’s phrase from Detectives’ Nocturne case. Okiya-san almost confirmed it with yet another quote from the past during Froth, Steam, and Smoke (Anime Episodes 684-684 / Manga Files 809-811) case.

Conclusion: Okiya Subaru’s true identity is Akai Shūichi.

SERA’S BROTHERS

But if Okiya-san’s true identity is Akai Shūichi, who’s Sera’s second brother, who was mentioned in Maga File 859? Yet again, there’s hell of a lot of theories. There’s a theory that second brother is Amuro (Sera said that unlike her and her dead brother, her second brother looks more like their father and doesn’t looks like Sera and her dead brother), but I don’t like this version much, since Amuro was in the Organization back then even though he told everyone that Akai-san may be a spy from FBI, he didn’t say anything like «He’s from FBI, he’s my brother!». In other hand, Amuro may be hiding his true identity too. And it may be related to Date Wataru and his notebook from The Life-Threatening Broadcast of Love (Anime Episodes 681-683 / Manga Files 804-808). So, it is possible that Amuro is a second brother.

But another version is more interesting. And that version is – Sera’s second brother is… Kudō Yūsaku. I can’t say that this version fits perfectly, but there’s a lot of things that fits:

• Sera said that her second brother work overseas and always busy.

• Sera-san is a huge fan of Night Baron since she was a little girl.

• Even though Sera lived overseas,
it looks like Ran somehow remember her.

• When Sera saw how Ran treating Conan-kun’s wounds, she said «Looks like I am a bad girl» (Anime Episode 691 / Manga File 814).

• It looks like Sera got the whole idea about Conan-kun’s true identity from very beginning.

• Sera always blush when she’s close to Conan.

Now here’s the theory – if Sera-san’s family was close to Shinichi’s somehow (and if she’s like very young half-sister to Yūsaku-san it’s somehow fits), then they may be played together at some point. Since Sera-san always blush when she see Conan, she may liked young Shinichi back then and, since she’s a fighter in her soul, she may kicked Shinichi just because of that. And if there was Ran too, she may be able to say something like «Bad girl!» to Sera and then treat Shinichi’s wounds. This part is almost clear actually, the hardest part is about how Sera-san’s family was related to Shinichi’s. Even though version about Kudō Yūsaku-san being an older brother of Sera-san looks interesting it’s still doesn’t fit completely.

There’s another version about Sera being a sister of Kuroba Kaito, or even Kuroba Tōichi. This version is interesting, because both of Akai-san and Kuroba Tōichi-san voiced by the same actor, Ikeda Shuichi-san and voice acting is very important in Meitantei CONAN. For example, some characters ware made after voice actors completely (Takagi Wataru-san, Chiba-kun) and some was named after voice actors (Amuro Tōru, whose name is compiled from names of Gundam character Amuro Ray, and Amuro’s voice actor Furuya Tōru). So, Aoyama-sensei think that voice acting is very important and there may be a reason for Kuroba Tōichi-san and Akai Shūichi having the same voce.

Conclusion: Sera-san’s second brother is still a big mystery, but Okiya Subaru as her second brother and theory that Akai Shūichi is really dead, or disguised as someone else isn’t actually an option.

NON-CANON STUFF

OK, now we have a lot of facts and a long of «I’m pretty sure that…» theories in our hands. Let’s try to put it on single timeline. But before that, yet another thing. Let’s not forget that Conan’s cameos in Magic Kaito anime specials is completely impossible. There was no such cameos in original Magic Kaito manga and they’re completely impossible for the next reasons:

• Shinichi turned into a Conan long after Kaito turned into KID, at least because Shinichi fought Kaito as KID once (Anime Episode 219 / Magic Kaito Manga Volume 4, Chapter 3). Therefore, it’s impossible for Conan to be with Haibara-san in Tropical Land during Kaitō Kid’s Busy Date (Kaitō Kid Anime Special 2 / Magic Kaito Manga Volume 1, Chapter 4), since Kaito only started as KID back then.

 • When Conan looked at the building, which Kaito used as birthday present for Aoko, he looked from the window of Mōri Tantei Jimusho (Mōri Detective Agency) along the road to the North. And it’s also impossibl. Look on the map of Beika and you’ll understand why.

Therefore, keep in mind that Conan’s appearances in Magic Kaito Anime Specials is completely non-canon and can’t even be true. I won’t include such an obvious mistakes in the timeline. Remember it.

Conclusion: Even though Conan and Haibara appeared in Magic Kaito Anime Specials, it can’t be true and completely non-canon.

TIMELINE

Now, it’s time for the most delicious part. To put all facts in one line with the most solid and promising theories I’ve made above. Let’s begin with Karasuma Renya who «died» half of a century ago in the age of 99. Since a lot of powerful and influential people was after his wealth, we can easily assume that there was at least rumors about something really important in it. It’s hard to imagine people like politics to go on regular auction just to get some regular antiques. And the easiest guess is that they were after Pandora Gem. No matter how rich you are, you can’t buy an immortality and if there was a rumor that Karasuma Renya had it (age 99 is enough for such a rumors, but maybe there was even some sort of cult around it) they may tried to find the source of it in Karasuma Renya’s wealth. And it looks like they were close in their assumptions, since most of them were killed by unknown drug. Two mysterious people appeared and gave them some sort of drug, that forced people to kill each other. Two people. Drug. Dangerous secret. Immortality. Let’s go with the version that two people who used the drug to kill people was Karasuma Renya himself and Vermouth (we don’t know her real age after all, she may be much older than even Yukiko-san think). They took a Pandora Gem with them and killed everyone who may be close to a truth. There were enough rumors about Karasuma Renya. Karasuma Renya should disappear. And he disappeared. And everyone who tried to learn more about him was killed (Senma Furuyo’s father is nice example).

Then soon afterwards, Vermouth becomes an actress Sharon Vineyard and Karasuma Renya becomes her husband. After getting some fame, Sharon met Kuroba Tōichi-san, who was a famous magician back then (at that point Kuroba Tōichi-san wasn’t Kaitō Kid) and may be on the same parties with Sharon. Through Sharon (since they was close enough for a long time while Tōichi-san taught her about the disguise techniques) Kuroba Tōichi-san learned about Pandora Gem. Not the whole truth, of course, but since he was a very smart he may learn the truth in the end. The truth that Karasuma Renya and Vermouth working on immortality.

Anyway, let’s return to our timeline. After Vermouth learned from Kuroba Tōichi-san, Miyano Atsushi-san and Miyano Elena-san entered a spotlight and started to work on Silver Bullet drug. According to Elena-san they’ve «putted their hopes on» it, so, it may be like the drug looked like a good thing for them. They may’ve seen some good reasons to work on it. About 20 years ago they was still able to move somehow freely (even though they was always shadowed by Organization), so, it may be them who told Kuroba Tōichi-san the missing parts of the truth. And maybe together they decided that Silver Bullet Project is incredibly dangerous. Miyano family decided to flee and take Pandora Gem with them. But they died in «car accident» and Pandora Gem disappeared (Lost? Stolen?). Another version – it was lost during the fight in Karasuma Renya’s mansion half of a century ago, or even long before it and Karasuma Renya just trying to make another one from his own DNA, or fragments he have. Anyway, Pandora Gem lost, main researchers died and Silver Bullet project stucked. Organization tried to study their last hope – Miyano Shiho and make her continue the project.

Next step – 18 years ago Kuroba Tōichi-san started his way as yet unnamed thief (later named as KID by Kudō Yūsaku-san). It’s very interesting period, since it’s unclear when Elena-san and Atsushi-san died. It looks like audio tapes for Shiho was recorded beforehand, since it’s impossible for them to be alive while there was Shiho’s 18^th birthday and 20 years ago they was still alive and visited Atsushi-san’s friend with 4-5 years old Akemi, it looks like they died around this time. Which was also confirmed by Pisco (Anime Episodes 176-178 / Manga Files 239-242), who said that they died when Shiho was very small. Therefore, if Miyano family met Kuroba Tōichi-san and decided that Silver Bullet Project should be stopped, then their death and first appearance of 1412 is a part of the same thing.

Next step – 8 years ago. The time when Kuroba Tōichi-san was killed. Presumably by Snake from secret organization from Magic Kaito, but since there’s no details, it’s pretty unclear. As for the Magic Kaito secret organization, I don’t like to believe that they’re the same people with the Black Organization. Theory about them being a part of those people who was after Karasuma Renya wealth and secrets sounds much better. Anyway, Miyano family long dead and Kuroba Tōichi-san feels like he may be killed soon too. First of all – he tried to contact his rival, Kudō Yūsaku through his son (Anime Episodes 472-473 / Manga Files 570-573). He wanted Shinichi to ask for a help from his father, but since Shinichi was already pretty stubborn and decided to decipher the Tōichi-san’s message all by himself, he made a mistake in the end and just decided that he solved everything. Therefore, Kuroba Tōichi-san lost his hope to get Kudō Yūsaku into it. His lost hope was his own son, Kaito. But he was too young back then. That’s why Tōichi-san made a secret door in his house and programmed it to open after 8 years, so his son will be able to learn the whole thing. Sadly, audio tape died long before Kaito was able to listen to it properly and therefore Tōichi-san’s secret is still unknown. What happened about 8 years ago? Is he wanted to tell Kaito about Pandora Gem? Or maybe he actually found it and hid somewhere? Maybe his message to Kudō Yūsaku-san was about Pandora’s location? The one thing we can tell for sure – Tōichi-san had a serious reason to make his own son into a thief. And he planned it very carefully, so it should be something really big.

Somehow around this time Sharon’s husband died from of an unspecified illness. Reason of it may be very interesting. At this time Jodie Starling should be around 20 and therefore she may start looking for Vermouth with all power of young, but full pledged FBI agent. Therefore, if we’re still going with a theory that Karasuma Renya is a Vermouth died husband and also a James Black, there was a great need for Sharon’s husband to «die», because Jodie became a huge problem and required a lot of attention. James was just unable to be a husband and FBI agent at the same time. Therefore, husband «died». Sharon’s words about their fight with Chris about Chris disguised as Sharon’s husband soon after his death may look strange, but actually there’s two solid reasons in such a lie. First – Sharon was in a big need of excuse for not seing her daughter often, because even she can’t be two different people at the same time on public. Second – if her husband’s death was a fake, then Chris disguised as him may be used as nice excuse if someone will spot Sharon’s husband somewhere. «You’ve seen my husband alive? Oh, no, it was my bad-bad daughter disguised as him again! What a bad girl!» It’s also the only logical explanation about Sharon’s words, since there’s no other reason to badmouth her own second personality.

Some years later, Akai dived into Black Organization as Moroboshi Dai and got a codename Rye. If Akai-san is a brother of Kuroba Tōichi-san it makes a lot sense for him to aim directly to Miyano daughters. But that’s a very bold assumption. Anyway, Shiho already returned to Japan and worked on new Silver Bullet. She even made a lot of progress with it, but (because of lack of original Pandora Gem?) her APTX 4869 was still «incomplete detective». Prototype version of it was given to Gin and Vodka as an easy way to kill without any traces, because of strange side-effect of APTX 4869 to cause a drastic apoptosis (apoptosis is actually a programmed cell death, which is a very close thing to eternal youth and immortality, so, it makes sense as a side-effect of incomplete Silver Bullet drug). It looks like Organization use drugs in their business very often and it looks like a nice way for Vermouth or for Vermouth and Ano Kata to cover the real truth by hiding it into the useful drugs development. Looks like they even work on some sort of superhuman abilities, which explains why they’re so afraid of Akai-san. If it was only about his brain and information he may be able to leak to FBI, it’s obviously isn’t enough. Organization started a huge hunt on Akai-san in New York and afraid of him even now (Remember, Kusuda Rikumichi committed suicide just because Akai-san was after him), which means that there’s something more in it. Maybe they tested something on Akai-san. And since Vermouth calling Akai-san and Conan-kun «Silver Bullets», the whole project may be about creation of some sort of superhuman. Conan said for some times that he have a strong sense of evil intents and he also said that both he and Akai-san think in the same way with him. Maybe there’s something more in it.

Somehow soon after it Kudō Shinichi became Edogawa Conan. Shiho-san knew the whole truth about APTX 4869 and even searched through Shinichi’s house (she was able to move somehow freely at that time), but without any results. Soon after it Andre Camel ruined Akai-san’s cover completely and accident with Miyano sisters followed. Since Vermouth and, most likely, Ano Kata was overseas at that time, it may be that as an Organization’s overseer Gin planned the whole thing without letting Ano Kata / Vermouth know. Gin doesn’t know the whole truth and even though he knew that Shiho was important, he didn’t know how important she was. In the end, Shiho was able to escape and the strange game started. With two kids out there, there was a huge chance that Vermouth’s / Karasuma Renya’s secret will be discovered. And she / they were unable to tell the members of Organization the whole truth. That’s where a very interesting game started. Vermouth’s main goal was to deal with the kids in any way before their secret will be revealed. Vermouth tried to destroy all proofs about APTX 4869 true meaning, while James was all about to hold FBI. And now this game became even more dangerous, since Vermouth failed to kill Haibara again, but this time Bourbon started to look into Conan directly.

In conclusion, let’s name the biggest mysteries again:

• Vermouth – alone, or with Ano Kata
(Karasuma Renya?) as a partner?
• Where’s Pandora Gem now?
• What Kuroba Tōichi-san tried to tell to Kudō Yūsaku-san?
• Who’s Sera’s second brother?

That’s it, 13 A4 pages of pure facts and theories.
