Of all things, she just had to get stuck in the rain when she wasn’t at her hundred percent. Having just finished one of the jobs she was given, the idea of relaxing at home in front of a lit fireplace sounded like heaven. Getting caught in the middle of a torrent of water wasn’t exactly what she wanted to deal with as using her abilities in front of the humans would only bring unnecessary attention.
More than anything, the lack of heat in the immediate area only caused her healing to slow. She should have been more careful, retaliation from the target was supposed to be expected. Retaliation from the target in the form of a young non-human wasn’t exactly common though, which caused the injury on her side. It wasn’t too bad, stealing the heat from the immediate area as she walked home had healed it somewhat. Though she was stuck at a standstill as she took shelter under an awning.
At the very least, the jacket she wore hid the injury from prying eyes. Hopefully, she could be on her way soon and be away from the humans. Truly, the privacy of her home and not needing to think of keeping a human-acceptable form would help her heal much faster. She resolved to wait for another five minutes. If the rain hadn’t stopped by then, she would just have to grit her teeth and deal with being drenched.
It was truly dreadful weather to be outside, much less stranded. And while Hakuba had managed to forget his jacket and umbrella, he at least had his car. Top up, the detective made his way through the veritable curtains of rain and cold, driving much less quickly than he would have preferred. But, alas, with the roads in this condition, there wasn’t much else of a choice.
This, however, presented the potentially positive opportunity to assist someone. Had he been going any faster, he might not have seen the girl in the awning. As it was, he wasn’t entirely sure if she really was there or if it had been his imagination. Nevertheless, he slowed his vehicle and came to a stop just a few yards past the girl.
While the idea of leaping from the car to fetch the girl had been somewhat appealing for a few reasons, Hakuba decided it much safer to call from the window, which he leaned over to call to her.
“Ah, excuse me, miss?” Hakuba asked, hoping that his voice reached through the rain. “Do you need a ride?"
He knew that many would not accept the offer from a stranger, but he needed to be sure that he’d done his part and helped if there had been a need.
