“I know you’re supposed to be a detective and all, but slow down on the questions, would you?” he snorted, unable to help but grin lightly. “Yeah, it’s good. And obviously. Why would I take it out if I didn’t want to watch it? Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel’s in it and it’s, ah…" Trailing off, a hint of embarrassment flashed across Kaito’s face, but he averted his gaze before Hakuba would be able to notice.

“…It’s kind of a mystery love story, I guess. About a magician using his skills to try to get the woman he loves, who’s far above his own social standing.”

Hakaba turned the dvd case over to look through the various features and information presented. “Mystery love story,” he repeated, then looked back at Kaito. “Okay, sure. That sounds good."

The detective offered it back with a grin. Had he noticed any nervousness or embarrassment? If he had, he didn’t show it, almost as if he were too busy feeling contentment at having been allowed to stay in the first place.

He checked his watch. "And you made sure to order rootbeer, right?”

hannah-shikari:

She couldn’t help but pause, blinking a few times as her mind reeled back at the sudden flirtation from the male. Oh gosh, she could just feel her insides curling up in secondhand embarrassment. It took only a split-second for her impression of the male to change. The small pup by her feet got down on his belly and covered his eyes with his front paws, you could hear the small whine from him. Obviously, he shared the same sentiments as his owner.

Now, be nice, sweetheart. You dug up his garden, after all,“ nervously laughing, she was starting to reconsider her opinions on if it was safe to be around the male or not. Dear Lord, she already had enough troubles dealing with her brother’s friends, she didn’t need more of them around. ”Come on, say sorry and we have to go home now. Mom’s worried about you.

That.. .was a little unusual, wasn’t it? The sudden change in tension, as well as the nervous laughter, did not go unnoticed.  Bewildered, Hakuba slid his hands into his pockets and looked between the girl and the dog. Had he said something wrong? He’d been flirting, sure, but he’d thought it was light enough to be funny. Perhaps not.

“Ah, no, it’s all right, he doesn’t need to apologize. I’m just glad that I could help.” Hakuba bit his lip, then glanced over his shoulder, toward home. “Well, ah, it was nice meeting you, miss. I hope you have a lovely evening..”
