Well, it was working a little bit.

Hakuba’s simple presence directly after a heist like that definitely was enough to make the magician feel a hint uneasy. And anxious. Not that the detective actually had any proof that he was KID, but—

…Had he just said he’d been sloppy?

“How could I have been sloppy? I wasn’t even there!” Kaito protested, pushing away from the wall with a far from pleased expression, but before Hakuba could answer, he waved a hand and turned in the direction of the kitchen.

“Y’know what? Don’t answer that. I’m so not in the mood for an argument. …What kinda pizza do you want?”

It was maddening, how Kaito continually avoided the admission that they both knew. But, in this instance, Hakuba decided to let it slide – just for the time being. After all, he was already on very dangerous ground, having walked right into enemy territory without even calling ahead. And Kaito, somehow, had been gracious enough to let him in.

“Ah, anything is fine, really… Something with mushrooms, perhaps?”
