Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

KID just kept running, half afraid to look back and see the progress of the enemy.  He stumbled a little when a shot almost knocked his hat off, cursing quietly and catching it.  That was the last time he wore one of Toichi’s hats out; surely that left a mark on the white satin.

Soon he was heading up a flight of stairs with a door at the top.  This had to be the roof exit, KID thought to himself.  He’d be safe in a few minutes, right?  The hope was gone a second later when he saw the door start to open and a figure stood in silhouette.  His heart sank, assuring himself that since the figure didn’t bring out a gun and point it at him, it was probably an innocent.  This wasn’t much of an assurance, but it did help.

With a burst of adrenaline speed, KID sprinted to the door, grabbing the figure by his arm and pulling him aside before closing the door again.  He took a moment to catch his breath, not even looking up at his new companion yet.

Hakuba was caught very off guard by the recklessly charging Kaitou KID, and it took him several moments to realize quite what had happened. In fact, it wasn’t until his eyes had adjusted to the new dark that he gathered the mental energy to process it.

“Well,” he muttered stiffly, unimpressed by the close proximity of himself to the very phantom thief that he had been avoiding. “That was unexpected. What are you up to? What’s all of this commotion?”

Leave it to the half-brit detective to begin asking questions at potentially the worst possible time.

“Heh, ‘ight” Kazuha replied simply nodding her head as she continued onward – until they approached the mall. Kazuha hadn’t seen why Heiji had despised Hakuba-kun so much, after all he wasn’t quite the pain Heiji had made him out to be.

Kazuha turned back to the blonde detective and smiled lightly – figuring it best to describe her somewhat silly scenario to him where there was less commotion. “Well ya see, I’m not sure if it’s just meh bein’ paranoid or wha’ but"

Kazuha hesitated slightly recalling the events. "Ya see, fer de last few days thin’s have been comin’ up missin’ in muh locker at Aikido practice…” Kazuha paused for a moment and bit her bottom lip softly

“It was small stuff at first… So I thought maybe I was just bein’ clumsy and droppin’ it… But d’en” She hesitated again and began fidgeting with the bottom of her shirt. “It’d gotten to de point whur other thin’s gone missing.. thin’s I know fer sure I hadn’t misplaced…”

Kazuha stared up into the detective’s eyes her green eyes flickering like flames. “So I left a note…” Kazuha said nervously “I haven’t checked it yet really – I was going ta wait fer Heiji but ya see…” Kazuha’s voice began to get weak as she spoke “I feel like w’en I’m thur… I’m bein’ watch’d…”

“Feelings of being watched… and disappearing items,.. Hmmm.” Hakuba looked thoughtful, continuing their approach to the mall while he mulled over the details presented in his mind. “Might I be able to get a list of said items from you? In chronological order of when they went missing, of course, starting with the first item leading up until this last one… Which, I must ask, I’m curious as to why you’re so certain about it not being misplaced?”

The detective took that moment to pull out the little black book that he kept in his inner suit jacket pocket, as well as his pen.

“We’ll need to, of course, check the Aikido establishment for the status of your note. As for being watched… well, I will stay with you until Hattori-san is able to take over.”

Wait. Was that really a good idea?

–  ♥ “Mou ~ Bakaito left without telling Aoko again ” She said murmuring . She blushed when she heard hakuba saying that to her . You wouldn’t hear Kaito saying such words to her . “I-is that fine .? “

“Of course, Nakamori-chan…”  Hakuba smiled, It was best to be gentle with this one, which suited him just fine. Despite the broom chasing and general commotion in class, Aoko was more or less harmless when removed from her obnoxious catalyst. The detective offered his hand.

“I shall stay with you until that irresponsible Kuroba-san is found.” A brief pause. “Unless, of course, you’d just like to be my companion tonight…”

Some Nights (blackfeatherswhitedoves)

blackfeatherswhitedoves:

KID paused once inside, but he didn’t stay still for long.  The gunmen weren’t far behind, and they were catching up quickly.  Mentally cursing, he made his way further up the building, going over things in his head.  If he could get enough of a wind once he was high enough up, he should be able to glide ideally a kilometer or two, though he wasn’t going to count on it.  The shots were getting too close.

At this point, he could really only hope luck was on his side yet again.  Too many factors left to chance, and no time to think them all over.  He wove through the floors, still riding to the roof.  Ideally, he’d be there in a few minutes.

Rather alarmingly, Hakuba found that the shots were getting closer and closer to where he stood. He looked over the railing again, then turned, headed back toward the stairwell at a liberal clip.

If there was legitimate trouble, and it wasn’t from the police, chances were that it was a group that would not play by the metropolitan police department’s handbook in terms of allowable firearms and the subsequent procedure to deal with it. With shots being fired, the detective believed it was safe to say that it was the more the style of someone who didn’t care at all about the police.

He reached the door to the stairwell and quickly swiped his card to get access. All in the vain hope the  he would be able to get out of the way in time.

“Y-You were tryin’a…” Kazuha stared at him for a minute “Of course… I should’a known” Kazuha laughed lightly.

She had thought something totally different but she should of suspected as much from a detective – they were always trying to deduce things. Kazuha didn’t really understand the thrill they got from it but she shrugged it off and looked towards the mall – which had now been in plain sight.

“Ya…” Kazuha said raising a brow and then looking back to him “Since I kind’a ruined your fun,” Kazuha began to say as she began heading towards the mall. “I suppose I could always have ya help me with somethin’…”

Kazuha had a small problem – one she was going to bring up to Heiji but seeing as she couldn’t really do that anytime soon, she supposed it’d be alright to let Hakuba-kun help. If he wanted?

“It’s quite all right, Toyama-chan… I am what I am, and detectives never seem to be able to stop their process of deductive reasoning.”  Hakuba smiled easily. The longer Kazuha acted more or less calmly with occasional shows of interest and care, the more tolerable she was.

“Hm?” His attention was drawn to her at the suggestion that there might be a mystery to solve. “What is it that I can assist you with, my dear?”

kaitouxjeanne:

Unbothered by his closeness, she nonchalantly glanced around the room. It was filled with people who lived in the world of the wealthy. Designer suits and gowns, jewels, a general atmosphere of pompousness — this was the world she submerged herself in to gain access to a position that could more easily obtain insider information on her targets.

Jeanne looked up at him, noting his practiced touch. She smiled lazily at him and said,

“These circles are rather exclusive.. so you can imagine where invitations go for their events. But yes, I do know many of them. Why do you ask?”

Rather interesting he’s asking about people here.. people of means. Anyone here could get an expensive painting or fifty. So I wonder why he’s investigating this as if it were an /inside/ job.. Let’s steer him away from that line of thought.

Keeping up with the dance effortlessly, she laughed lightly.

“Surely you don’t think someone here would steal it? It’s far less trouble to buy it from him and these ‘lovely ladies and gentleman’ have deep bank accounts.”

The detective chuckled, steps confident, graceful. As if he’d done this hundreds of times before – which, in truth, he had. “Of course it would be far less trouble… but that’s not really what motivates a thief now, is it?

"Certainly, if someone wanted to, they could buy a painting and sell it for, hopefully, more than they paid… That would be a broker. You could compare it to, say, a person working a regular nine-to-five to earn their paycheck. Alternatively, they could gamble at high stakes. Some people are risk takers. That is how they operate. It’s not so much the money that they’re after… it’s the thrill.”

Hakuba smiled, tilting his head at her. “I know a great number of the people present tonight, but not everyone… and not as well as I’d like for any of them. Any one of them could be one of those risk-takers. It could be someone who has the money – all that they’d ever need, and more – and still chooses to steal. There are so many reasons that  criminal could use to justify their actions… But isn’t that what makes human nature so interesting?”

“What do you mean by safe?” Okay, that guilty expression was worrying him. “If you wish to retire somewhere more private, I understand the sentiment, but I do not understand what you mean otherwise.”

There was also how KID was aware of his similarities to Lupin and how they ran much deeper than most people realized. So, yes, this was a foolhardy venture and KID knew it. He’d be damned, though, if he didn’t occasionally throw caution to the wind.

Hakuba looked at KID. Really looked at him. Biting his own lip, tilting his head ever so slightly, evaluating what he saw as he worked through the complicated mess of practical thought and feelings in his head. Kaitou, apparently, wasn’t worried, and didn’t seem to be aware of the inherent implications of the choice given to him. Which… perhaps meant that Hakuba was taking it far too seriously.

It was only a kiss. Nothing more.

Right?

The detective sighed and offered a sheepish, half-hearted smile. “My apologies… I.. just don’t want to see you get hurt, Kaitou-san. It appears that my mouth has run away with me yet again… when, indeed, I should just leave my lips in your care.”

He turned his head and, if not stopped, moved in to take the kiss for himself. Harmless flirting was something he’d done countless times before. Kisses were given shamelessly in the right atmosphere. What difference was it if, for once, he actually cared about the person he was giving the attention to?

“I may be a thief, but I have standards.” Technically, he did a lot of things that were questionable putting it mildly, but he was doing them less and less now. (One could argue either he was maturing or the gentleman act really was starting to wear off on him.)

“So, do you wish to or not?” He kept his grin, noting the blush. For once, as it wasn’t due to the gentleman act, he was pleased with it.

Hakuba hated questions like this. They left him vulnerable, and there was no way to win. Unless Kaitou really intended to kiss him if he said yes, which he found highly suspect, no matter what the detective said would lead to heartache. He debated the answer. So far, he’d not made his feels about Kuroba Kaito too obvious, or so he hoped, and whatever was said now put that in jeopardy.

He wanted to. He wanted Kaitou to. Kaitou or Kaito. It didn’t matter. But that would open or close doors, potentially permanently. What to do? What to do?!

“I… do,” he said softly, looking away. Guilt was in his expression. “Of course I do. But… is that… even safe for you?”

Why do you have to ask? Why can’t you just take it? Why make me decide?
