*It took perhaps just as long as last time to get there – if not slightly faster. Soon Kirigiri found herself quickly walking up to the estate; pressing the doorbell once and waiting for someone to open the door.*

This time, it was Hakuba himself that answered. He opened the door and stepped aside to let her enter, offering a nod in greeting and a polite smile.

“Kirigiri-san, thank you for coming on such short notice. I’m afraid that we’ve missed tea-time, but I do have the reports ready and waiting in the drawing room if you’ll be so kind as to follow me.”

Do you ever start RPing with someone and they’re just so damn good at their character and you’re, like, a drunk llama pounding the keyboard and you have to physically restrain yourself from apologizing after every reply but you’re trying to play it cool like maybe they won’t notice how bad you are and

Yes, I do… And in that case, I’ll be over there soon.

“Perfect, thank you.”

Hakuba returned to the papers and took a pen to them, striking through the previously recorded information and then paused. No… no; that wasn’t professional. He set the documents aside for the shredding pile, then returned to his word processor to update the information.

“I’ll see you soon, then. Thank you, Kirigiri-san.”

The detective, then distracted, typed away to update the report and… tighten some more verbose areas, just in case Kyouko was like his English Language Studies teacher.

KID slowed himself down well enough, turning to look back at Hakuba and reassess the situation.  They seemed okay for now, but they shouldn’t linger; their friends wouldn’t take long to catch up.  He was about to go retrieve his glider when he noticed Hakuba on the ground.  It took him two seconds to dash over to the detective’s side and put a hand on his shoulder.

“Here, let me help,” he softly offered, trying to assist Hakuba however he could.  In the dark, he still didn’t notice the blood, even though it had left a rather garish design on his jacket now.

The detective, with KID’s help, stumbled along until he got his footing again. Then, though panting, moved quickly enough to keep pace.

“Thank you, Kaitou-san,” Hakuba said briskly, wincing. So much of him hurt, but there was no time to do an analysis on his injuries; he only had time to be aware of them.

“Please tell me that you have a plan in mind for whatever insane nonsense you intend for us to do next?”

Arrangements don’t exactly matter to me – I’m not doing anything important right now—

*—Not entirely true, but it was only a side case that she wasn’t entirely attached to, but she wasn’t going to talk about that—*

—so now would be the best time to meet. I’m sure I’ll be comfortable with whatever arrangements you decide on, and well, if by chance I’m not, I’ll just have to pretend, won’t I? The information is more important than comfort, after all…

Hakuba frowned faintly at the words on the other end. “I would hope that you wouldn’t have to pretend, Kirigiri-san…"

He turned, looking to the fireplace in his bedroom, and let out a sigh.

"If it’s not too much trouble, please come to my estate. I’ll have the report printed and ready for you. Oh, and – ah, Kirigiri-san… do you still have Hattori-san’s cell phone on your person?”

It would probably be safer if we met… To be quite honest, I don’t trust my email to be very secure, no matter what precautions I take… And I’m not quite sure what your report entails – if some of my theories stand true, it could end up being rather dangerous information if it were to come to light…

“Completely understandable. Would you like to return to my estate, or shall we meet elsewhere? If necessary, I can make arrangements for a meeting room at any centrally located hotel.”  Hakuba paused, considering. “Whatever you are most comfortable with. I should very much like to get this information into your hands at the earliest possible convenience.”

*Upon hearing the phone, Kirigiri stopped what she was doing. While she hadn’t been doing anything that required much attention, the ringtone still came as a shock and for a split moment she was confused on what to do. She was tempted to ignore it and go along with her self-appointed task of exploring the city, but she answered once she realized who it was.*

Hello – Hakuba-san? Did you finish…?

“Good evening, Kirigiri-san. I have finished, indeed. I think that you’ll find my report quite… interesting, in a manner of speaking. Would you prefer that I email it to you, or would you like to meet and go over it together?”

With a few final keystrokes, the report of his investigations was finished. The detective hit print, then stood from his desk, retrieving his cellphone. The evidence he’d found was unsettling at best, and not something he wished to linger with. So it was Detective Kyouko Kirigiri’s number that he dialed, bringing the phone to his ear while he looked over the warm pages as they came from the machine.

The option to email was viable, but he had to be sure that the connection was secure before sending such sensitive data.

KID stopped grinning and blinked for a moment. This was certainly not something he expected from the detective who was most icy. Did he have to spell it out? Fine by him. He smiled slightly and licked his lips.

He pulled Hakuba into another kiss, careful to be exceedingly gentle. That anxious look had concerned him. No need to scare the turtle back into his shell due to his own flames.

When he pulled away again, he said, “I’m surprised. Usually you’re more of a detective than this.“  He kissed along Hakuba’s neck once more.

Hakuba sighed in relief once they parted and relaxed, melting under the thief’s attention. Whatever KID was doing, it was very effective.

"I think…” he murmured, shifting to get closer, pressing the side of his head against Kaito’s cheek. “…I’m the only thing I can’t sort out. No amount of investigation, or deduction… mmn… maths…”

The detective turned his head to return the kisses, moving a hand across the thief, resting it at his side. If his blush, which had spread to his ears, weren’t enough of an indication that he liked this, the nuzzling he started might be.

Oh my. That felt a little more pleasant than expected. Looks like young Sherlock is pretty good at this game.

Whether it was the alcohol earlier, their exchange, the exertion from dancing, or whatever excuse besides him having an effect on her, a very faint pink rose crept into her cheeks. Feeling the soft heat from her face, she turned her head during a twirl to look once again at the balcony in longing. Why is this dance floor so cursedly far away from the balcony?

Shaking her head at herself mentally, Jeanne looked back towards him with a playful smile. “Yes, questionable. What with your young Sherlock appearance and how you’ve managed receive my vague compliment without appearing conceited and direct it back towards me. Bravo, by the way.“

It looked as though she needed to stick it out during this dance. Not that she was complaining — it was fun to talk to the charming young man. A suspicious one, too. However, it didn’t seem he was particularly suspicious of her.. More at ease, she once again stepped in closer than the dance asked and looked up at him with a wicked grin this time.

"Hmm.. so I’m like everyone but a ‘darling’ nonetheless. How fun, you’re like this dance — twirling away the partner and bringing her close. And equally practiced at both arts.”

The compliments pleased the detective, who kept up the smile, the dance, and his exuberant confidence with ease and finesse. Hakuba liked that wicked grin of Jeanne’s; it made her far more interesting than the rest of the patrons on the dance floor, though he knew that he could not keep his attention on her forever. Doing so would likely upset his client, even though he was learning so, so much about this mysterious woman and the others around her in doing so.

“Miss Jeanne, you’re truly a master of imagery. I’m glad to hear that my efforts are effective, but you must know that it only betrays your intellect. I dare say that there are only a handful of people in this room that could compare to your observational skills and quick turn of phrase."

His hand pulled against the small of her back again, gently, before sliding to her hip.

"If you’re not careful, you’re certain to attract an entourage of admirers… but perhaps that is your goal.”
